  • mad skillz leaping around with a cape like that. meesa wants to try it now. :P

  • ¡A un murciano no se la meten doblá!

  • The jester character is Doodles Weaver! (pulling the string through his head; falling into the mud)

  • Wikipedia says this was a TV special broadcast on NBC in November of 1957.

  • Since nobody had color but NBC in 1957, unless CBS loaned NBC's color equipment, this is almost certainly not a Dumont broadcast. Especially since they ceased to exist as of August 1956.

  • DuMont had left the network business by 1957; so this made-for-TV film was not broadcast "on the DuMont network". It probably was syndicated to local stations.

Perhaps it aired on the (still owned at the time by) DuMont station in either New York and/or Washington.

  • @altfactor This film was first shown on NBC and then syndicated to local stations. It used to be shown annually on what was then our local CBS affiliate, Channel 5 (WAGA-TV). They have since become Fox and another channel is our CBS affiliate.

  • this story actually was not about rats, rather about "jews" who came across from the east and were hated for their wiley ways! everyone in these times despised the jews.

  • please tell me you are joking, even though antisemitism is not funny.

  • you didn't know thats what is was about! i knew that for 20 years or so,wizardspocket is right on the money! the people of the medieval times absolutely haited the filthy jews!

  • My bad---I commented about this, so disregard everything in the most recent post except about R.I.P. to Van Johnson (1916-2008)

  • SCORE! I remember seeing this IN 1957 (NOW CUT THAT OUT, DON'T FIGURE OUT MY AGE).

    Thank you for downloading this.

R.I.P. Charles Van Dell Johnson--Van Johnson to you.

    Also, MERRY CHRISTMAS.

  • we are doing this for our school christmas play

  • 2:19 FTW

  • see, back in 1957, they didn't have CGI, so they used sea otters to do all the hard work, such as turning the pages in the cast intro.

  • LOL, me too! rotoscoping. ytmnd. com

  • Masters of Stuffing :O

  • Masters of Nothing!

  • YES! LOL! That's exactly why I searched for this! Here's to you fellow YTMND'er! :D

  • exact same here! I so wanna make a redub of the wholre movie!

  • Also, Trussen looks like Aquaman!

  • Man, I love this movie so much. Mostly this beginning part hahaha. I bought it for 60 cents yesterday at the Family Dollar. It's definitely worth more than that though.

  • This version used some of the music of composer Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite.

  • I remember watching this as a kid in the sixties.

All of us were whistling 'In The Hall Of The Mountain King' in school the next day (although we didn't know what it was called of course) - this is what started my love of classical music!

  • This was indeed shown on NBC as a 90 minute special in November 1957, and given limited theatrical release the following year.

  • I distinctly remember seeing this in 1957 (Don't even THINK of trying to figure out my age. LOL.)

  • Any self respecting Pied Piper would be ashaimed of this....especially the slinking down the tree part. Very amusing though >:}

  • One of the singers is Thurl Ravenscroft, the original voice of Tony the Tiger until his death in May of 2005. I recognize his voice.

  • Cool! Thanks!

  • The Du Mont network went out of buisness in 1956, so it could not of aired on it

  • If I recall, this was produced for the DuMont Television Network to inaugurate their color TV service... which sadly never materialized. Reportedly, it was the only feature film ever produced for DuMont. The film was later shown on the NBC network.

  • Ah, okay. Thanks for the info!
