I remember this as well including the bit with Simon Mayo saying it was going to be No.1. Wish he was back on 5 Live but he's dressed like a right twat in this. Mu! Mu!
I remember this appearance on TOTP like it was yesterday - even to the point of Simon Mayo introducing it. The performance blew my mind - outstanding!
@arglwyddanfradwrus ...and Moody Boys, Jamms, which were far better piss takes than this 'Ironic' social commentary. Anyone who lived through the 80s knew that the likes of Scot, Atkin and Waterman were assholes, so why emulate/copy them. I mean I understand the KLF's point in doing so, it was mocking SAW, record biz etc. But the KLF's irony was always going to be lost on the masses which is where it would have counted most, instead the sheep just ate it all up, as they have and always will do.
I know they were making a point about people being cunts...but they could have at least tried to do something halfway decent musically...the Orb and their chess performance was a much better finger to the establishment.
It was a bunch of sound engineers takin the piss ! but it worked !! hahah! because 'muppets' will always buy catchy choons ! haha ! actually like em cos 'It's catchy' guess I'm a muppet too!! haha!
@kernowrock555 haha indeed! The KLF were just making dance music to show other people how piss easy it was and to make money off it all and it worked (and then they burnt it) . Absolute genius.
First heard this in a music shop on Greenwich (sarf-east London,)around 1991. It blew my mind. listened to the whole album and continued to listen for the rest of the year with a portable ghetto-blaster a Sharp GF9595 plugged into the cig. lighter of my white hand painted Morris Marina when I was recycling like an urban gypsy. None of my pals in the U.S liked it very much so I had to literally listen to it underneath my pillow. Still love it -magical stuff...thanks for posting.
If my memory is correct there were 3 top tunes at the top of the charts this week including KLF and OMD and yet middle of the road dick music Cher got to number 1, Simon cowell didnt invent tat.
@robet76 shit man your right. mind you they all had that shitty hair cut back then!! mayo mmm was on 5 live . . . wonder where he's at now? and ol mike smith ;}

@discoverydavid This while a bit cheesy in terms of its "lyrics", the backing tune etc are brilliant, totally better than music we have now.
BTW, Jimmy Cauty (one half of The KLF) was involved with The Orb!
