@richardhaw continued: Since a fine working example can be found for a good price, then it is my position that the F3hp is the best choice for anyone who wants to learn photography, or shoot film. That's it! I do not know how this is ignorant or misleading. Merry Christmas and Cheers!
@richardhaw Maybe you've not read all of my comments. I'll summarize and then you can tell me if you think I'm ignorant or misleading. I believe that the best way to learn to be a great Photographer is to start with a film camera. It is my position that the Nikon F3 System was the best manual focus film camera system ever made. Since a fine working example can be found for a good price, then it is my position that the F3hp is the best choice for anyone who wants to learn photography, or shoot f
Yes. you can use any Nikkor lens that have an aperture dial DX lenses will vignette however, and G lenses will work but only in A mode I believe. No autofocus with this camera of course.
@RoundTheBendFilms Sure anyone can learn to be a great photographer with any SLR or DSLR. But my 35 years of experience with both leave me with the opinion that starting out shooting with film, developing your own film, making your own prints is the best way to learn about light, contrast and composition. And since I believe film is the way to start then why not start with the best film camera ever made. There is a difference in the shooting experience between a Pentax K1000 and a Nikon F3hp.
@panzarw - I'm very sorry I didn't make myself clear earlier. I meant that the Nikon F3hp is the best manual focus film 35mm SLR ever made. Find a nice used F3hp body,MD4,75-150 f3.5and 50mm f1.8 Nikon Series E lens and you'll be ready to start learning photography the correct way.
@mikelsmad61 - I figure you must be speaking of full range aperture shutter functionality without battery; but just in case... The F3 could fire 1/80 sec mechanically. You may already know that though. LOL

Have owned F2,F3hp,F5 and Canon EOS A2 and dozens of lower level film cameras. My favorite was the Nikon F3hp with an MD-4. It was the greatest 35mm manual focus camera (and system) ever made. I hope to find a nice example to keep till I die.
Wonderful camera -very much like an improved FE +++ I recall however the negative feedback/stick the F3 took from pro's used to the F2 -as the F3 had to have a battery!
Pentax and then Canon replied with the LX and the new F1n but neither slowed down sales of the F3.
I owned a Nikon F3T for a short time but my fav pro spec (film) Nikon remains the mighty F2AS.
NIce video, that looks a beautiful camera, i picked up a FE2 yesterday, and still getting to grips with it. - not as nice as this though. that film advance lever on the F3 seems to have an awesome action to it.
There is no comparison to the FM10. If you want to learn to be a great photographer then this is the only 35mm film SLR you'll ever need. And you'll never learn great photography on a DSLR!!! I know film is dying. But start out with film while you can.
quite funny I also have people asking me things like white balance, and what kind of lens they must use. But the don't know anything about lightmethering and the combination of shutter and aperthure let stand there is a relation to eachother
@MacPro8CoreMan I'm struggling to understand and at least find a review of nikon film slrs but why you say fm10 is only way to go, this one look also ok ?
It has a attachable viewfinder thats a good thing...
@MacPro8CoreMan believe me, you can learn great photography on any camera, it's just idiots who abuse the power of digital. and yes, the FM10 sucks ass haha better to go with an FM or FM3a
You can get a nice body for around $75.00. It won't look new like this but it will work just fine. Try to get it checked out by a reputable camera repair shop before buying. As long as it checks out, it really doesn't matter if it has a little wear. These cameras are bullet-proof! Good luck.
@richardhaw continued: shoot film. I do not see how this could be ignorant or misleading. Merry Christmas and Cheers!

How much do they sell for?
I'm in the market for a similar camera. Also how does the FM10 stand up to this?
