Very impressive to play an epic like "music" with just a 4 piece band and make it sound so great! But then again...these guys are just amzing. John Miles is underrated!
what a fab post, so many thanks, John is one of the best live acts I ever saw. It's hard to believe he was formally interviewed in connection with the Yorkshire Ripper murders on the strength of the first song here ( plus his background location), I always believed the song was based on the excellent Stephen Knight book 'Jack the Ripper - the final solution' (3 blind mice and the well respected gentleman etc). Although latterly discredited, I still believe that book holds some or all of the key.
Zaragon tour came before MMPH, I saw him 5 times I think between 1978 & about 1985, once he toured with a certain Johnny Cougar as support later to gain much acclaim as John Cougar Mellencamp in the late eighties. The 1978 show at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon was the first concert I ever attended.
Saw John Miles in Liverpool on the More Miles per hour tour, and later on the Zaragon tour, he was absolutlely brilliant and he never craved stardom, he is a genuine bloke who certainly gave his all on stage a true musician who could put all these lip synching losers nowadays to shame.
In my opinion, John Miles is one of the most underrated artist ever, as far as here in the U.S. How U.S. critics could give "Zaragon" a poor review, I never understand. That LP is absolutely perfect!! Love this!! Thank you for posting.
John Miles was the first act I saw live in 1976!! Great show, saw the band three more times over the years and met them backstage on the more miles per hour tour - i would love to get hold of their sight and sound programmes they did for bbc2 - pull the damn thing down - one of my fave guitar solos ever. thanx for posting
great post -john is so flat at the end of the first line, bass player bob marshall must laugh at john.what a great drummer barry black is very underrated.was the keyboard player brian chadderton in the 70,s t.v programme rock-follies on itv. seen the band many times (music) fav all time song, brings a lump to the back of my trousers lol

Wow ! I used to play Slowdown way back in the 70s but never seen him perform it live, I also remember the song being in the US soul charts for ages.

The world of Rock owes much to John Miles. All were inspired by their great compositions. Listen carefully.
