unlawful combatants are people that travel to war zones to kill and mame the common enemy of that region. they are not lawful, therfore must be catagorised and detained in secret & for long periods 5 to 12yrs to discourage the practice. because you travel into a warzone doesn't mean you can murder people lawfully. that's what GITMO is really about! regional intel is just a bonus.
