I love my d40x. Its perfect and cheap. I got mine for less than 300 dollars on ebay with a lense. i would suggest this for anyone who considers themsleves amateur. I know several well known photographers and no one uses anything but Nikon. Not to mention unlike cannon or pentax all their lenses fit all their cameras! It has the opitcs of the d90 with faster processing so it takes motion better than some of the higher ends. So unless you want to drop 2g on a camera go with Nikon d40x
@ozzie147 Of course, as long as there is enough light (daylight preferred) like to set the shutter speed to 1/400 or higher, so it is fast enough like to freeze the desired moments (making skate tricks, while in mid-air, long jumps, etc). Thats a basic for any professional camera, not just the D40X... Hope I could help.
This is my first dslr camera.. the difference between the 2 was that 1 is just 6mp and the D40x is 10.2mpx.. That's what I like the best about it. It takes brillant photos. It's worth spending a bit more, I think.
I would not pay the extra amount just for the Megapixels it doesn't change the quality that much unless you are cropping a lot. I would go for the D40.
Unless you plan on printing bigger than A3, you don't need 10MP. Also, the D40 performs better at high ISOs because less pixels are crammed onto the sensor... Go for the D40, and spend the money saved on other things such as the AF-S 55-200.
every other person here has not a clue between the too because none of them own them both. d40x has much lower iso settings, more megapixel, bigger screen, more controllable options, the biggest diff is the number of mega pix's and mostly which i havent seen one other person here say, from the d40 now this one has a 100 ISO setting, make pictures clearer, and better , less noise too.
yes, because when you take the picture its the top quality then when you upload it to a movie making software the quality cuts down then when you make the video and upload it to youtube, the quality is even more cut down.

Would you reccomend this camera for me if i take pictures of birds and nature?
benbrules 2 years ago
Nikon does not produce it anymore, it was replaced by D60.
its the lens that you should be asking not the camera.
DSLR would do the job for you..
for birds you'll need a telephotolens. and a wide angle lens for nature .
good luck

It's a Nikon D40x. I love it, it's a nice camera. Go for it....

D40x seems to be a bit pricey than D40. Did u find any major differences between the two?
