From what I've heard, the books are indeed based off of his actual relatives as well as his own life. I find it kind of strange they didn't mention his niece, the apparent basis of these novels. There is no fourth novel, this drama is currently being continued and carried out through the actual existence of his niece, and the magazine and legacy he has left behind.
Steig Larson wrote a good plot but the basis was absurd (that Nazi's run Sweden). Sweden is run by PC liberals who have import millions of third worlders. But in his fantasy world Nazi's ran the nation.
It´s sad how CBS ignored eva (even though she refused to appear on the show, it was their responsibility to tell her side). Eva did help writing the books. As a matter of fact, the trilogy is semi autobiographical of their lives together. They never married because of death threats made to them. Also, Stieg planned on giving the money to Expo and to the Swedish Communist Party. I don´t care if americans find that hard to swallow.I urge you to check Eva´s book.
rmtmiller there is a fourth a half finished manuscript about two hundred and eleven pages long. the only copy of it is owned by eva gabrielson, its on a laptop in a bank in sweden somewhere but you wouldnt want to read the book it kinda ruins things in a wierd way filled with under editing and half the books sudo poetry. its all quite wierd really
I LOVE the books and films and I'm wary of what hollywood will do but still a bit excited. I'm doing a report for a class on the first book because of Stieg's wonderful work.
@JerkyChid Daniel Craig and especially the director David Fincher have both made some very entertaining and amazing films.Together on the same project I think they will exceed expectations. If one sees the film without any negative bias I think it will be a fantastic movie experience.
Yeah I found out about Craig, Fincher, Rezner, and everyone else attached to the project soon after that comment those months ago and now I'm going to lose my mind waiting for it to come out. It looks like it will be even more faithful than the Swedish films
@JerkyChid I recently read that the Fincher version will actually have a different ending than the book.
Exactly what has changed I did not investigate as I would like it to be a surprise.
The Watchmen ending was changed for the better so who knows, it may turn out to be an improvement.
I am more than positive that it will have its pros and cons but overall be an entertaining movie and a nice peek into what we can expect for the next two.peace.
I haven't heard anything about the ending though I could see an improvement in pacing. The ending of the book is slow and all your attention was focused on the climax that just concluded rather than the falling action of loose ends being tied up. The change to Watchmen worked because it raised the stakes and made it seem more like Doctor Manhattan's fault than the graphic novel
@JerkyChid The Watchmen film definitely had the better ending.Made more sense and wasnt ripped off from an old The Outer Limits episode. I am willing to bet that the Fincher version of GWTDT ending is changed so that it leads into the second film more so than the novel in order to create anticipation for the sequel for the larger audience that will not have read the books. It seems like a more business savey move.
No. O:) There's a lot of violence and crime in it, so I wouldn't say it's particularly for women. But Lisbeth Salander is like, the enbodiment of female power, and Stieg Larsson does put quite a few strong female characters in his books. But it's not a book for women. Just for anyone who likes a nice crime thriller with one of the most awesome characters in literature.

I like these directors: A. Kurosawa, A. Tarkovski, C. T. Dreyer, J. Vigo, D. Lean, M. de Oliveira, J. Renoir, I. Bergman, M. Carné, A. Resnais, E. Rohmer, R. Bresson, F. Truffaut, N. Oshima, W. Herzog, Louis Malle, P. P. Pasolini, Satyajit Ray.
But I also like NA Oplev. His Millennium trilogy is now showing at the RCA House cinema in Bangkok.
The books are fantastic. I hated to finish the third one because it meant saying goodbye to Lisbeth Salander. I hope there are two more books. What a sad situation between his girlfriend and his family.
@rmtmiller there is a fourth book well a half written manuscript about 211 pages long its on a laptop in a bank in sweden and legally owned by gabrialson but cant be published beacause of the copyright owners. its also quite a wierd book and shakes up the whole storyline. verry wierd
rumor is that there are 2 nearly completed manuscripts that Eva may attemptto complete but the sad thing is that Stieg hadplans for a total of ten books...I guess some things are better left unfinished and unknown.

IMO, Larsson was writing about his own family
in Dragon Tattoo. The part where the rich matriarch
is discussing his family of liars, cheats, etc. might
be a summery of his own family particularly
when it comes to extreme right wing Nazis.
