You Could do this with paint cans and make a Big one and then make More Power OR you could get a heating pad and make it run its Self and take what Power that was Left over and power..uh idk but it would be EPIC
@LZ2SM I don't have this any more (smashed the glass cylinder :( ) but if I remember correctly it was about 4V no load and down to 2.5V with the radio.
@specallez That sounds nice!I just completed a engine from your site coke can strilling but with displacer taken from the 1 hour version,I also took the diaphragm style from the 1 hour version, since there was no steel wool it's slow, but its working! Now it's time for improvement!Tanks for the how to!
i am trying to make one of this but its not working. i used a pepsi can, made the dispenser with cds, a small piston with plastic. can you help me make it work.

@SthealthRaider Yep, you can hear the ac ripples on the radio plus the engine doesn't run consistently, it goes faster and slower between the heating and cooling cycles because it's not perfectly balanced.
@specallez What I would do for solar power is a solar water heater. One of those solar camping showers would do the job nicely. Replace that bottom can, the one that holds the engine up over the candles, with a watertight can. Two holes on the sides for tubing, and put the water heater below the engine. Hot water will circulate through the engine because heat rises.
Nice little engine! It's great to do actual useful work with just a few candles worth of heat, isn't it? still prefer the diaphragm to the graphite piston - cheaper, seals well, and low friction, but your piston setup obviously works well enough. BTW, I also experienced collapsed soda cans, that's why I use stainless water bottles now.
@approtechie I do prefer the diaphragm models but I got that cylinder and piston for free, so I might as well put it to use :) Stainless water bottles you say ? I will have to try that! I've not been able to get any of my diaphragmed egnines to run above 450rpm though.
i've heard of steampunk, but damn...

I call bullshit. There's no possible way that you can actually build a working one of these.

Very good job!!!I I was thinking at the interface of Stirling, a system of power generation, similar to eolic generator...

This thing is so awesome. Have you tried using the sun as a heat source, perhaps through a fresnel lens?
crouchingturbo 1 year ago
@crouchingturbo I haven't tried it but I want to some time! (haven't got a fresnel lense or parabolic dish though)
