this is an americanized viennese waltz, look at how the choreographers do it in SYTYCD - a bit the same. maybe len was referring to a strict viennese waltz that have longer natural turn and reverse turns. maybe len was expecting so much of a close-hold like what happened in kelly and louis's routine...

Len is like Simon. They brought the show to USA. So he comes with the show. He is just old fashioned, but fails to see the way the show is going, towards the present. Ballroom style dancing but with a younger attitude. It seems he dislkes Dmitry, Max, Alex, and anyone who is not American or British. Yes, we all shake our heads at Len's comments. And he gave a 5 just to spite the other judges, the audience, and the viewers.

Len is an asshole. If he had consistency in his criticism I would have no problem with his scoring--for lack of components, at least there would be some authenticity in his judging...but...he's a tool.

i personally agree with len, it as a very good performance and i know that on dwts, unlike strictly, they do like a little bit of basic dance in hold, there just wasn't enough actual vienesse waltz. I have to agree with len. this wasn't a viennese waltz. the posture wasn't right. I would have liked for them to have been in a waltz hold position where they have there hands in tact. I didn't see that at all. I love dmitry's body, but I didn't know that a unbuttoned shirt was appropriate for a viennese waltz. it was great performance, but not what it was suppose to be.

I can't believe that Len can drop the "stars" score based on the choreagraphy. There are 16 different pros, so they all will bring something different. It doesn't seem fair that if she did the dance that she was taught by her pro, she performed it well, so why give her a 5? Then they told Derek "excellent choreagraphy" and gave his team an 8. If they are scoring choreagraphy, they should all have the same dance/routine.

I don't think Len should penalize Mya for the choreography.  That is not her fault. He should have at least given a 7 score. That would show his displeasure with the dance itself without hurting Mya's score.

I think it's because SYTYCD does more contemporary styling with ballroom, and Len being the old guy that he is doesn't like the new stuff. I love the more contemporary stuff. Len just has to get his head out of the ground.

I'm sick of Len...Everything is not about race in this world, but I'm beginning to think len has something against "black" dancers. He butchered Mario in season 6, Maurice Greene, Lil Kim (last season), and now he tore into Mya who was excellent. Like I said, everything is not about race, but I'm beginning to wonder with Len. nah i thought len underscored them but to say he has something wrong with black dancers is a bit extreme mate. If you watch SCD, Alesha Dixon (who you may not know) was black and she was like Mya, in terms of being ahead of everyone but he was great with her and always marked her well. He gave her a 10 once when infact the female judge gave her a 9. So basically maybe he was in a bad mood or something but still he undermarked her.

Mya danced great here, I'm not trying to take anything away from her, but Len is spot on with his comments. This is not a Viennese Waltz and I'm glad he called out the choreographer. What's the point of having genres if you can freestyle to whatever you like.

They should score both the dancer and the choreographer. The score of 5 is unfair to Mya, but just for Dimitri.
