@offkiltr Actually, the fires today are much worse because of the materials objects and houses are made from. Back then it was just wood that burned; now you have all these chemicals in products that exponentially increase the fire to a blistering 1000+ degrees (give or a take a few variables). Fires where NEVER that hot back in the 1930's. being a fire fighter is a high stress job that severely cuts the life expectancy. Sorry, but I had to set some things straight with your comment.
