[Continued] Yellow water and bubbles is definitely not a solid indication that it is E. coli. Fourthly, microbes are nearly everywhere. In fact, on and in our bodies, there are 9x as many bacterial cells as there are our own (not that bacterial cells are significantly smaller). Lastly, there are many strains of E. coli, and most of them, probably about 95% of them, are harmless to humans. Some of them even live inside us naturally. This was an awful experiment.
First of all, it's E. coli - note the 'c' isn't capitalised. Second of all, your aseptic technique was terrible. To prevent contamination, you shouldn't have put the lids on the table and you should have flamed the 'broth' tubes when introducing the microbes. Thirdly, your identification technique was just all wrong - you should have done a streak plate on nutrient agar and then sub-cultured each microbe that grew, or you could have used a selective media that only grows E. coli.
@Cryptonic25 and it makes me not even want to use it because if something extremely harmful is left over, all the good and protective bacteria on my skin won't be there to fight it off, and my hands will be more vulnerable. i just don't like hand sanitizer!
in my seminar class we made samples of bacteria and mine was the beat, it was from the water fountain in our gym and the 2nd best is from a kids penis 3rd is from a urinal 5th is from a toilet the rest were negative
@minecraftbessness um maybe you dont uderstand ill type it again ok?, so we took tape and stuck it to anything that we thought had lots of bacteria mine was the most infected and i stuck my tape to a water fountain handle button thing. the one that got 2nd place was held bye a kid who put his tape on his penis. Our teacher said we could put it on anything.
For example, Herpes is not just an STD The media hype of pathogens attempts to scare people to be TOO careful. Tuberculosis is a big media disease that they say STAY AWAY FROM ANYONE WITH IT. when in fact, unless you living with that person and sharing a bed it is virtually impossible to catch it. to wrap things up hand sanitizers and antimicrobial soaps are in most cases BAD. it kills your normal flora (good bacteria) and unless your a surgeon or need a sterile environment DONT USE IT.
THIS VIDEO IS HIGHLY MISLEADING!! bacteria is EVERYWHERE (Even Escherichia Coli) HOWEVER - most of the strains of e-coli are perfectly harmless towards humans. We even have a ton of it in our digestive tract (however that strain needs to stay there... anywhere else its bad) a strong STRONG majority of the bacteria inhabiting the earth can peacefully co-exist with humans. Even some bacteria and virus's you may have heard about are only one species of that genes (Continued above)
So you think ppls cellphones, keyboards, etc, are cleaner? nope not if you dont clean them every 2 days. And if you keep things to clean, your body & immune system will be weaker to bacteria.
I ate dirt and bugs growing up. I got over strep throat when i was 6 without any medication or antibiotics. I never wash my hands unless I get some obvious poop on them. Consequently, I haven't gotten so much as a cold in 20 years.
Why is he telling us to wash our hands a lot? Thats what makes our immune systems weak, not being exposed 2 germs. Its like putting a lion that's lived in the zoo all its life in the wild.
That was pretty interesting. Although next time if you do do something like that you have to keep everything sterile. the water was not sterile even though you got it distilled (it needs to be autoclaved) and the swabs are not sterile once they are exposed to the air. For number 4 since it was red and did not bubble im assuming it was a lactose or glucose nutrient base. The yellow color is due to the acid by-product from E-coli. If it was red at 25C then it is Serratia Marcescens
@KrnSniper01 yes and no. when you put hand sanitizer on your hands (usually 99.97%) the left over germs that DID survive will reproduce and it will carry the gene that made it survived. ALSO when you are to clean your white blood cells wont witness any "battle" as compared to someone who hahs been living in a trash
@KrnSniper01 did you know there is particals from your shit that lands on food all around the house so basically your slightly eating some of your shit
@livi1016 Not to mention; Do we ever stop to ask why that .1% isnt killed? and what happens when that .1% starts to reproduce? Doesn't it seem that the .1% would create a resistant strain of the bacteria that simply WONT be killed by the sanitizer any more. Hrm...
Ecoli is for most strains natural to the human body and is necessary for digestion this is a crap test for that reason there is nothing to suggest that these were strains that are harmful and also washing your hands isn't effective many bacteria have evolved resistance to bacteria because of the over use of antibiotics so you may not catch a cold but you are creating bacteria that have no cure
E.coli is common intestinal flora, people are freaked by E.coli because ONE of the strain of E.coli is dangerous which was known thru media about the town of walkerton.
E. Coli is usually located in the intestinal tract, so its quiet interesting that you will find it nearly everywhere, but not so much on the toilet. As E. Coli usually lives in a symbiosis with the human body, it is of course nothing like a disease, but in case it appears in greater number, it's metabolism substances may cause a sickness.
@Householdhacker Just curious, why didn't you use potato dextrose agar in a petri dish? That is what I have used before when I have cultivated samples for experiments.
