@kaylesemma I do agree. when the remake came out, they had to tweek it to the year 2014. The Original Book took place in 1978 after the Sino-Soviet(Chinese-Russian) War took place. A classic science-fiction novel by Richard Matheson.
The book is amazing. The BBC radio dramatisation is faithful and chilling but both films just trash the book by being fantastically faithless and chill free; the Will Smith ordeal especially so. Make the book and you have a classic on your hands. Simple.

Actually all 3 films were based after the 1953 novel I Am Legend. The shame of it is, that one of the finest novels written by an American in the 20th century, was made into a feature film 3 times, and has yet to be made into a decent film. Hollywood constantly changing Matheson's thought provoking work, has made three awful films, all of whom have absolutely no heart or depth. Hollywood tried to fix something that wasn't broken & failed, the novel is amazing, the films stunk

Actually all 3 films were based after the 1953 novel I Am Legend. The shame of it is, that one of the finest novels written by an American in the 20th century, was made into a feature film 3 times, and has yet to be made into a decent film. Hollywood constantly changing Matheson's thought provoking work, has made three awful films, all of whom have absolutely no heart or depth. Hollywood tried to fix something that wasn't broken & failed, the novel is amazing, the films stunk

It was before my time but when i did see it some years ago on cable the shit was actually freakin good for what it was...imagine Zombie Vampire people just slowly knockin at the door and you already know you are the only man left in the city?...

@Nathan920 I am Legend was written in 1954 The Last Man on Earth was filmed in 1964. I think you will find The Last Man on Earth was based on I am Legend, not the other way around.
