Second, why are you even recommending ankle weights those give you water in your knees. I used platform shoes before clown, the strength shoes version, and I gained about 8 inches from them and my speed increased as well. I played high school basketball, and I played at division 1 school so I know what i'm talking about.No one listen to him.

  • dont listen to this guy....YOU NEED UPPER BODY WEIGHT. once u have weight uptop then u do plyometrics to jump higher. think about if you took a napkin rolled it into a ball and threw it vs the same napkin and wet it with water which one would go further? the wet napkin cuz it has more weight to propel itself.

  • @pharocious It's a process of progressive resistance training (weights) and and growing the muscle that helps jump. You maintain your speed or improve it a little but strength training is #1. Like I said it takes awful long time going say from 250 - 400 can be often painful for these muscles to grow, there's scientific models on how much a person not taking steroids can.   • I Agree that squats and lunges are not the most effective exercises. He's right about targeting your glutes, hamstrings and quads. But he fails to emphasize the importance of core strength ( abbs, lumbar hip flexors) when it comes to your vertical leap.

    24 inch quads is a gold standard for leaoing ability in fact the highest. If you're about greater than 6 ft 3 then people will notice your "chicken legs". Chicken legs is a term used in athletics that do not necessarily mean skinny. It is rather proportional to some other texture or width of you bones. Lebron definitely had 24 inches quads at the time you say he was "skinny". Lebron is 250 now.

  • work on your legs, abs and obliques. those areas is where your power comes from. go to a gym if you can but running is a key factor in strengthening those muscles. also if you do have access to a gym a great exercise would be to take the olympic bars and do the squats with them on your shoulders. make sure you go down like you are going to sit. another thing is to try weighted vests but they can be exspensive. look up some exercises since i told you the muscles.

    my verticle as of September 1 2008 was 25''.

    it is February 23 2009 now, and i watched this guy's instructional video on the 3rd of september '08. i took note of everything and practiced. Over this time period my verticle has gone from 25'' to 36''.
