@HangetsuHozuki you are a Shodan and based upon your name a Shodan of Shotokan Karate. So a brown belt if Okinawan karate would know more on this matter. And @megan6599leigh you would be mistaken to say that shoring thu has a lot if kicking, like was said before only really in Chinto and Kusanku. This doesn't mean that the feet are not being used. You have to remember that when the old masters developed a kata there was no room for wasted movement.
esta mal!!! muy mal el kata y la mirada va antes que el golpe y no se pisa el piso con fuerza ,,,esta muy tensado y de un golpe lo lastiman......LOSERS........
@GhostGrind Correct. Very few. Three kicks in Pinan Shodan and three in Yondan and that's it. I don't know what style your from but Okinawan karate doesn't put as much of an emphasis on high kicks as Japanese karate.
@megan6599leigh There's still not that many... In comparison to other systems. The only kata that truly have an abundance of kicks are Chinto and Kusanku. Two kata out of eighteen.
We were students at a Matsubayashi-ryu Karate-do dojo and we moved, and there aren't any around us now, these vids are a big help to us. Thank you for posting them sensei.
I watch these videos as part of my Matsubayashi-ryu training and have an observation. At the 18-19 second mark, Sensei performs Chudan Hasami-Uke (middle scissors block). My understanding is in Pinan Godan, this block is a soft move rather than fast and powerful as shown here. You can see this block performed as a soft move in the videos for Ananku and Chinto.
I was looking a round for a good Pinan Kata, and here I found it. Like others have said, it won't win a plastic medal, but its a good show of power and speed.
Good form of kata.. About Kiai, in Okinawa Shorin Ryu , we use only one Kiai.. I'm pracicioner of Shorin ryu Kyudokan and we also use only one Kiai same as him.. Also, he's not sloppy, he's using his hips to generate power, from relax to kime in correct way of yin yang... Only my personal view and from my experience..
ok! is he the only one who knows the katas? let's see someone else with a different body type or gender! i really don't think we should nitpick about the kiai. it shouldn't be a choreographed thing anyways. it's supposed to come from inside.
No he did not forget a kiai. For those linked with Shotokan, you will find two kiai points in this kata (Heian Godan). However in this Okinawan style there is one kiai in each pinan. By the way, traditionally, Okinawan masters would allow their advanced students kiai at any point in the kata.
Shorin Ryu. My apologies for smartphone autocorrects.
