@cgvfd1156 Well the guy on the ladder with his cut undone etc. Personally his ppe wont do diddly crap if he fails from that or through the roof.. just saying not defending it. I'm all for PPE, I don't even vent a roof without my scba, to hell with sucking up that crap i say!

@93CFD Why did the rear mount aerial take the windows in the cupola while the inside team was just getting up there? If an occupant was in those rooms, they just got lit up. Now the inside team has no way of search those rooms. Brilliant. How about the 1st attack line in postion and getting water on the fire out 3 windows and a 2nd line to back up the 1st line, while fire is extending to the cupola? Balloon construction, no fire stops. Hello! Yeah, BFD fireman over FDNY Capt. Rrrrright.
listen cunt, just get your fuckin hose out and spray water......dumb fuck......and please change this rediculous shit........you can not call this music, it is garbage.
Wennn ich die Jungs arbeiten sehe wird mir schlecht! Jacke offen, keine Handschuhe..kein Innenangriff.. das dauert :( ich bin frage mich manchmal was da taktisch bei den los ist?!
Yup, Boston Firefighters are so tough, they smoke cigarettes on the ladder next to the fire, and don't bother to button their coats either. What did the fire do when it saw a BFD truck. It put itself out and made a smoke signals to other fires to do the same as well....
took my fire exam 4 the 3rd time....1st time gotta 86..2nd a 92...now a 97..does any boston firefighter know if they'll call me now that a scored a 97???? thnxs!!
I just wanna say that we ALL have those fires that kick our butts and on our worst day when we make mistakes, theres somebody posting it on youtube and it's easy to safety coach.... that being said, my instructor from kirkland showed us this vid as a really bad example of safety.

@TheDrewRowe the guy on the later why would he need it? watch some FDNY and other cities they won't use a SCBA until there is a heavy smoke contition, roof guys usually doesn't wear one either
@devilsgoalie13 yeah, breathe deep and get all those burned particles in your lungs. mmm, mm good. That's why firefighters get cancer when they're 60 and die.

@ffjsb I remember that video, our instructor at the Fire Academy had us watch that several times a week back in the 90's, everytime I see an open coat, no helmet etc. that image flashes back into my head, a very, very disturbing thing to witness, that easily could have been prevented, but hey everybody knows the risk, we are all grownups.

@SuperFirefighter9 on the contrary, when the smoke is whit it means theyre putting water on it. if it were black, they wouldnt have the stick that close to the building
this almost happened to me 5 years ago with a gas machine that was to close to the wall (water compressor) of the house. also there was a gas line behind the wall i got it out before the fire got going.... it scared the crap out of me when this happened
I hope your house never catches fire. It drives me crazy when people badmouth Firefighter and what we do. Yeah the water does create some damage, but it can and is cleaned. And I would love for you to try and do our job sometime. Asshole.
@raslinger Its the responsibility for firefighters to ensure there are no flareups, whats a better way to take out hot spots than giving it a good soak? Its true that for a minor building fire most of the damage is due to flowing water, but hey I'd take a couple gallons extra then to see smoke coming out again.
@TheHickupp You just hate firefighters huh? This is the second video I see your stupid name trying to down talk FF's. What did a FF steal your girl and now you have a personal vendetta against all of us. Id love to see you wake up at 3 A.M. put your gear on, respond to a fire, scott up, take a pair of irons or an attack line and move faster than walking speed. Its kind of pathetic how you down talk people who are braver than you could ever be. Grow up and show some respect.
dude, dont down grade firefighters. if you think you can do better then you throw on all that gear and try and put out a fire. it's a lot harder than you think.
Unbelievable. The guys on the ladder with no SCBA and their turnout coats wide open, the Hydrant man with his coat open, no helmet and running shoes, yes, runners. If we turned out like that for a structure fire, it would be the last call we ever got to respond to. And to have it all caught on video and aired on You Tube.
You should be ashamed of yourself talking shit, you no balls pussy, look at the clock, it shift change, the fire was out in ten minutes. Just in case you were wondering, we don't put volunteers like you in the same class as this, nor do you belong in it (i.e. nor should you have the balls to criticize it, there, no-pouch)
are you talking to me? if so, i am all for this way of firefighting... i do have the balls to criticize the way the new generation puts out fires... i saw this video and totally agree with their tactics. thats how we fought fire when i was coming up... agressive because you loose one house in a row, you loose them all.i was run off by the new more politically correct ways to fight fire.and i am a smoke eater from the day i stand by my theory that pussies and books dont put out fires...RETIRED FF
@93CFD I am one of the new generation firefighters, and I agree with you 100 percent sir. Unlike some of the new FFs, I respect the older generations and the way they did the job; because they got it done. My grandfather had 31 years on the line, and he has taught me things that no textbook or video has. I value what the seasoned FFs have to say; because they've been doing it long before me.
@1962snake Boston is a little bit different. Not everybody follows SOP, but the job gets done, just like the old timers did it BFD is still doin it today.
theyre about as safe as if they were in their mothers womb, if you get on the right side of the roof you wont need an scba, he aint getting burned cause the smoke is white, and the guy with sneakers was on the treadmill
@1962snake The hydrant man's job is to open the hydrant, do you really think he gives a shit about full gear or getting water in his coat? Whats more important, getting water to the pump, or making sure you are in full gear. I choose the first.
@1962snake "if we turned out like that for a structure fire, it would be the last call we ever responded to" you have to catch a structure fire first before it could be your last.......nerd alert.....and as far as sneakers go it could have been shift change or he could have been working out use your head turbo
one thumbs up for that comment... you are so right.. people wear air pacs on the way to fires now... the new generation of firefighters are a bunch of pussies compared to the old style they couldnt hack it when we came up...of course though ,,, im just a has been
i wanna live to see my kids grow up and shit. i wear a pack EVERYWHERE where there can be smoke. theres no telling what were breathing these days with all the chemical BS in everything humanly made.
@ForBoston523 I'd have my gear near the truck or engine, where its suppose to be.How hard is it to take your shoes off and jump into bunk's.I agree with wearing your gear, all of it! Was there a R.I.T set-up at the scene? I know of a situations where an Engineer had to assist in a rescue effort.Bfd may have the personnel not to be caught in this situation, but I'd rather be prepared for the unexpected.
i can not honestly believe how many ppl actually defend ppl doing things the waay they do on these videos, cmon now honesty you think its safe to be on that roof with no pack...lets sit back and recap now why so many fireman die doing what they do, its because there not doin it safe... and as for saying theyve been doing it this way for years well yeah complacency will kill you just as quick as a flashover, or do the guys that have been doing for years have iron lungs and nomex skin
i was a smoke eater way back when,,, i used to have to floss the carpet fibers from my teeth from stealing air from the carpets, and desperatly sucking air from toilets and such. then during salvage and overhaul id smoke about 10 cigarettes. the doc says ive got the lungs of a 10 year old... so go easy on the smoke eaters... dont knock it till you try it...another one we used to do that you wont like is we would take the liners out of our bunker gear in the summer to stay cool
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
so that is supposed to impress me and make me stop wearing an air pack? Did you get that saying off a back of a tshirt somewhere? and just remember that toilet your breathing out of prolly just had someones steamy turd in it, im gonna take the air pack of gettin that fresh air from a turds home!
dont flatter yourself... who would want to try to impress a youtube firefighter... dont be ashamed, none of us have lives... we are has beens or punk kids no real firefighters comment on this site...
Does the Chicago Fire Department still wear the hip boots, and three quarter length firecoats? Also nice way to vent a window. And the roofman should be wearing his scba. It`s standard procedure, and mandatory, what a dumbass. but hey it`s Boston, and I support the Boston Fire Deparment all the way.
No, that is what you were taught to do; to put yourself above others. Boston firefighters took a different oath, one to selflessly protect and serve all citizens and visitors to Boston. Thousands of people owe their lives to the Boston Fire Department. Can your squad say that?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Safe systems of work" and the appropriate PPE are a fundamental and integral part of firefighting - I don't doubt they are able to put fires out, but when you can't get the basics nailed, that's when you have to question overall professionalism of the outfit. If they failed to set up entry control 100 times, then they've done it wrong 100 times. Maybe we work different in the UK than in the US but the basics should be the same
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not only that but the other firefighter opening the hydrant does not have the correct PPE on - no helmet and he's wearing trainers(sneakers) - also they didn't set up an entry control point when the BA wearer went in.
Aw jesus. Not this crap again. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Boston is one of the best departments in the country when it comes to doing what fire departments do, that is putting out fires. They don't defer to the YBYB-NFPA handbook every time they roll up to a fire. The guy going up that ladder has probably been in that position a hundred time; he has a far better understanding of what he's doing and what risk he's placing himself in than some volly POS on youtube.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You Boston guys are fucken idiots. No air pack. Jacket's open, no tools. In that position a thousand times you say, then he hasn't learned shit about doing this job. NFPA was designed to save lives dumb ass! That's why so many of you fucks die in fires.
riddle me this batman, if you were on the treadmill, tryin to lower your cholesterol, and theyre strikin the box, are you tellin me that your gonna run back to your locker, take of your sneakers, put your boots on and go out the door? well guess wht in the time it takes you to change your shoes, a child hiding under his bed, an old lady who fell in the exitement, could have just died. and unless fire balls are gonna fall out fro the sky, i dont think he has to worry about his helmet
why the hell did the only specialty piece on scene move away from side alpha to make room from the engine.... If anything the engine should have pulled in first or came around from the other side (or at least park behind the ladder truck lol)
Hi all, you should still wear tanks when ventilating from an aerial, good regular training with this equipment, good techniques and physical fitness all come into play.
the guy could of been wearing flip flops and got the pump up and running ..it seems to me the busier the the fire company the more they care about speed , efficiency and tactics, and less about busting chops about gloves and the guy with 32 yrs on the roof who doesnt have his mask on, but he's doing a kick ass job
Being a firefighter for 10 years now I can honestly say it is a tough job, but I do disagree with the no tanks and whats up with the tennis shoes Boston is supposed to be the elite of the elite
its shift change and he's the pump operator, no big deal on his choice of shoe wear....alot of the old timers that have recently retired from boston never wore tanks while cutting a roof from the aerial...ive cut a roof from an aerial and i cant say i blame them....a bad swing with an ax or adz could send you flying with that weight oddly centered on you back
My heart goes out to the people living next door.

are you talking to me? if so, i am all for this way of firefighting... i do have the balls to criticize the way the new generation puts out fires... i saw this video and totally agree with their tactics. thats how we fought fire when i was coming up... agressive because you loose one house in a row, you loose them all.i was run off by the new more politically correct ways to fight fire.and i am a smoke eater from the day i stand by my theory that pussies and books dont put out fires...RETIRED FF

State1Trooper 2 years ago
and plus BFD has been around longer than any book out there.

theyre about as safe as if they were in their mothers womb, if you get on the right side of the roof you wont need an scba, he aint getting burned cause the smoke is white, and the guy with sneakers was on the treadmill
ForBoston523 2 years ago
@1962snake The hydrant man's job is to open the hydrant, do you really think he gives a shit about full gear or getting water in his coat? Whats more important, getting water to the pump, or making sure you are in full gear. I choose the first.
MudSlingerXJ 2 years ago
@1962snake "if we turned out like that for a structure fire, it would be the last call we ever responded to" you have to catch a structure fire first before it could be your last.......nerd alert.....and as far as sneakers go it could have been shift change or he could have been working out use your head turbo

riddle me this batman, if you were on the treadmill at the fire house, and you had to go out the door, what would you do?
A.) take off your shoes and put on you work boots, cutting off response time and possibly costing someone their life.
B.) just go out the door and do your job quickly and efficiently
ForBoston523 2 years ago
@ForBoston523 I'd have my gear near the truck or engine, where its suppose to be.How hard is it to take your shoes off and jump into bunk's.I agree with wearing your gear, all of it! Was there a R.I.T set-up at the scene? I know of a situations where an Engineer had to assist in a rescue effort.Bfd may have the personnel not to be caught in this situation, but I'd rather be prepared for the unexpected.

i can not honestly believe how many ppl actually defend ppl doing things the waay they do on these videos, cmon now honesty you think its safe to be on that roof with no pack...lets sit back and recap now why so many fireman die doing what they do, its because there not doin it safe... and as for saying theyve been doing it this way for years well yeah complacency will kill you just as quick as a flashover, or do the guys that have been doing for years have iron lungs and nomex skin
hallberg630 2 years ago
i was a smoke eater way back when,,, i used to have to floss the carpet fibers from my teeth from stealing air from the carpets, and desperatly sucking air from toilets and such. then during salvage and overhaul id smoke about 10 cigarettes. the doc says ive got the lungs of a 10 year old... so go easy on the smoke eaters... dont knock it till you try it...another one we used to do that you wont like is we would take the liners out of our bunker gear in the summer to stay cool

Just telling you how they are supposed to be working my friend - I can't force it on anyone..
Badsellcut 2 years ago
No, that is what you were taught to do; to put yourself above others. Boston firefighters took a different oath, one to selflessly protect and serve all citizens and visitors to Boston. Thousands of people owe their lives to the Boston Fire Department. Can your squad say that?

"Safe systems of work" and the appropriate PPE are a fundamental and integral part of firefighting - I don't doubt they are able to put fires out, but when you can't get the basics nailed, that's when you have to question overall professionalism of the outfit. If they failed to set up entry control 100 times, then they've done it wrong 100 times. Maybe we work different in the UK than in the US but the basics should be the same
Badsellcut 2 years ago

Not only that but the other firefighter opening the hydrant does not have the correct PPE on - no helmet and he's wearing trainers(sneakers) - also they didn't set up an entry control point when the BA wearer went in.
Badsellcut 2 years ago

You Boston guys are fucken idiots. No air pack. Jacket's open, no tools. In that position a thousand times you say, then he hasn't learned shit about doing this job. NFPA was designed to save lives dumb ass! That's why so many of you fucks die in fires.

riddle me this batman, if you were on the treadmill, tryin to lower your cholesterol, and theyre strikin the box, are you tellin me that your gonna run back to your locker, take of your sneakers, put your boots on and go out the door? well guess wht in the time it takes you to change your shoes, a child hiding under his bed, an old lady who fell in the exitement, could have just died. and unless fire balls are gonna fall out fro the sky, i dont think he has to worry about his helmet

athleticdud89 2 years ago
Hi all, you should still wear tanks when ventilating from an aerial, good regular training with this equipment, good techniques and physical fitness all come into play.
You only have one set of lungs!
Whenever you work in smoke. Tank up please!

the guy could of been wearing flip flops and got the pump up and running ..it seems to me the busier the the fire company the more they care about speed , efficiency and tactics, and less about busting chops about gloves and the guy with 32 yrs on the roof who doesnt have his mask on, but he's doing a kick ass job

bro its 8:30 in the morning which is around shift change he probably just got in and didnt have his stuff together
pipeman186 2 years ago
its shift change and he's the pump operator, no big deal on his choice of shoe wear....alot of the old timers that have recently retired from boston never wore tanks while cutting a roof from the aerial...ive cut a roof from an aerial and i cant say i blame them....a bad swing with an ax or adz could send you flying with that weight oddly centered on you back
