  • I saw her on this tour...fkg brilliant

  • God, I saw this show!! her most recent album, Homeland, is great

  • The old cliche "Years ahead of their time" but Anderson and Eno really were in the 80s.

  • NICE!!

  • ho sentito e creduto vedere attraverso il nome di Lauri Anderson un iniziazione di sesso involuto come se fosse : germania anno zero.

    dario.

  • lovely

  • My favourite Laurie song. Its so relaxing and spacious. She has made it so elegant - I am in awe of her.

  • Soooo...fineeeee....

  • wtf is this

  • @yod98 Art...ephemeral dreams pulled into reality and fleshed out...originality......

  • When I'm listening to this song now my memories go back to those hot nights when I listened to it in the 1980s. I still feel that heat, that mood even that smell. It's still impresive. A true masterpiece.

  • amazing!

  • @Vittoriocacciatore

u r fucked in the brain yong lady

  • I have been listening to the Mister Heartbreak album for 25 years and it still has the ability to freeze me in place and spirit me away all at once.

  • Does anyone know if any video exists of United States Live? I know I read that she left a lot of stuff off the five album set when it was released, that was largely visually based. Would love to see that performed some day.

  • Woot! I just got tickets to see Laurie live in conversation and then in concert! See you soon Laurie!

  • Ohhhhhhhh ist das wundervoll

  • This is my favorite part of Home of the Brave. Haunting.

  • Incredible. I have seen her live twice and it was amazing both times.

  • Genius

  • just... wow!

  • laurie é tão contemporânea, minimalista, moderna! 10! :)

  • I became aware of Anderson's genius in 1979 ,in a Life magazine article that provided an overview of the most intriguing artists of music's New Wave .After reading of Anderson incorporating new technologies with ancient, most notably a violin. Her bow strung strung with sections of 1/4"audio tape with pre recorded speech would then drawn across a magnetic pickup on the violin's bridge for a variety of effects - How can anyone not be curious ?

  • Beautiful intertwining of visuals, culture, poetry and sound...

    Brilliant!...

  • FANTASTICA ALL TIME!!!

  • thx very much for posting. saw this performed. lost the litlle plastic disc of 'x-x' that i got out of Art in America. should have bought 2 copies. doh.

  • Such a beautiful peace global message !

  • dope song, but all i can concentrate on is the synclavier

  • @tedowenmyers I'm not Japanese, but I do work as a translator. My transcription would be almost the same, except that I think it is 雲湧く instead of 雲開く。Makes more sense that way, don't you think?

  • When I first heard this tantalizing, mystifying piece, I didn't know Japanese; now I do, and I'd like to get the lyrics right. Could anyone check my transcription below?

    雲開く山の 私の叫び

    私の声を 勇者の故国

    私はそこに 私は遊ぶ

    目を閉じ 聞くのは小鳥

    時間は止まる 勇者の故国

  • prrrrrrrr!!

  • this is absolutely fantastic. really inspiring. m

  • A kozmikus állandó - Zene. Az Univerzum teljessége kizárólag zenével írható le és

    értelmezhető.

    Halgasd és Lásd!

  • @Wengoden Nagyon szép! Egyetértek.

  • gorgeous!!!!!

  • en playback, c'est à ièche!!

  • perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • laurie anderson is such the pioneer and a true original, just the thought of comparison seems a great insult and injustice to what she's accomplished.

  • I was lucky enough to see this show live in Boston.

Didn't realize it at the time, but I got hypnotized (literally) during Kokoku (it was the combo of rhythm, the flute melody, and the repetitive images of the planes flying thru falling snow). Didn't snap out of it til I walked out of the theatre into the shock of cold air.

(And I can say that seeing a show while hypnotized beats 420 any day.)

The word is overused, but Laurie Anderson is a genius.

    Thanks, stockhausen, for posting it.

  • i have seen laurie live here in neurnberg germany 13 years ago...she came back to nbg...,after a long time...she told on stage that she starts her music art work or first international concerts in nbg...great really great such music and performance...all made with good hardware...moog, DX7, Simmons Drums...Love it!!! thanks for posting...=) ******

  • My god, I haven't heard this song in 20 years! I had recorded it off of a PA late radio show, "Star's End." Great.

  • thank you for posting important music history. this shit has gone down before this and feminist and women performers need to know!

  • damn right sister!

  • Female Bowie?

  • the costume and the hair eheh it's second degree. She re-appropriate popular cultur tricks in order to create contemporary forms. That's why her experimental music has been such well known, she was clever.

  • not being derogatory about this!!! loved it. imogen heap???

  • mogen heap got started yesterday.

whereas laurie, here, did this in 1984....

so, go figure who reminds of whom.

  • exactly. i love how people think and post without any kind of actual historical knowledge. of course one would think stating the date as 1984 would be a dead give away. egads, this is even before bjork for crissakes.

  • @scottjhnsn

Actually, no. Bjork was recording with the band KUKL in 1984.

  • so far beyond imogen

  • this makes me happy to be alive

    thank you lucky stars

  • with this, just everything is right. really amazing piece of work

  • nice dancing!

  • Love the slide shows!

  • Guria moderna essa!

  • Très beau! délicieux à entendre! Bravo! Bravo!

  • Ingenious....

  • i love kokoku

  • i just watched the whole concert in survey of digital film class & i am now a laurie anderson fan (late, i know...)

  • never too late

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Hmm....Laurie anderson .Let me say, that I ve been in love with

her extremely talented mind for 15 years now.Isn t she extremely talented?!!!

  • I'd say that this tour represented he peak in physical, emotional and musical beauty.

    Just MHO, eh?

  • she is always cool and atmospheric

  • she's real newyorker, i think. I had listened to her 20-25 years ago and still love her music. David Van Tieghem, David Byrne, Peter Gabriel and many others made great music and theatre then

  • Lol she's real newyorker from Illinois. I used to catch her concerts cheap at U of IL. Wiki says she moved to Boulder and finally got married last year. Can you beat that?

  • i've told about most of the Laurie's performances style, spirit and the city, but not about her origin residence. Her husband Lou Reed is newyorker too:))

  • Saw her live back in 1990, amazing performance. She guided you into another world.

  • I listened to her as a teenager, and still love her stuff...She is absolutley ahead of her time..this was one of my all time favourites.....CHEERS!!!

    Rudy

  • looks a brillantly trippy gig..hope she comes 2 my town.

  • That flute alone is brilliant. This is one of the best music I ever heard. I searched and searched for music with a equal level of originality, musicality and performance quality. Laurie Anderson made a class on itself here, a class of very high standard indeed.

  • In the 80's, Laurie Anderson had seen already what music will become... she is an absolute Visionary. And exquisite.

    Sofía Sol, from Mexico

  • @sofinanda

Some of the songs in this live are still ahead of our time i think! I agree with you, and i would say more, this kind of song is still far far far ahead of our time in 2O11. incroyable

  • brilliant!!!

  • yesssssss . finally the search is over.

i listened to this as a kid and was ever since looking for this song .

its so relaxing .. and always sang in my head .

all i remembered is that its a singer with wierd hair and its in vietnamis ..

ty for this video . finaly .

  • aviramdj, the song is in Japanese. And if you've been curious, the stringed instrument the man is playing on the floor is the koto.

  • this was such a strange exciting performane.warwick harris put me on to her and are'nt i glad he did.she is hypnotic.well, no words can expplain.only my heart beats with joy.

  • I went to a concert once and was blown away. Her shows are incredible works of performance art that moves even a middle aged white guy . Wonderful experience.

  • dream

  • A concert film from another world. Can't wait for the region-1 DVD! Peace.

  • Beautiful, beautiful. I just love her stuff. So good to see and hear this again. Thanks.

  • really fantastic.

  • Shit happens...my friend had a robbery at his apt. They stole all of his tapes and found his 2 (pre-65) Stratocasters in his closet. OUCHHH!! They didn't know what they were stealing.

  • @stockhausen Oo, jeez, the poor guy! That's almost like losing your children!

  • @stockhausen At the risk of getting off track, the scenario you describe here just shows that thieves are not only thoughtless (they don't care how the act will affect the victim), they are ignorant as well.

  • That's why I have been posting some of these gems. Home of the Brave was indeed an important work and unfortunately unavailible except for here on YOUTUBE. Enjoy.

  • DVD rerelease coming "in the near future" according to Laurie Anderson's website. It's been saying that for a while now.

  • really?? superb! cant wait to get my hand on them :D

  • @stockhausen Or the "Mister Hearterbreak" LP along with the sublime "Blue Lagoon".

  • Superb video segment. Laurie Anderson is so brilliant and entertaining... and thought provoking.... But I reckon that is what 'art' is supposed to do. If you've not seen 'Home of the Brave' then I highly recommend it.

  • I used to have it on VHS some many many moons ago. Then some cunt stole it.

  • Same thing happened to me. In my case the 'bitch' made off with it and probably taped over it. Better now though, digital laserdisc.

  • In my case, it was some wanker who just grabbed a bag of stuff from my flat that happened to have that tape in it. If they'd specifically targeted the tape, I'd have at least given them credit for taste. They probably watched five minutes of it and threw it out. Bastards.

I lived in a very dodgy area then.
