You can pick apart any musician, Jack isn't a technical artist trying to impress folks with a repitiore of a million chord combinations. He stays within a certain range and just shreds it. If people can't appreciate that, they've totally missed the point of the White Stripes; a stripped down sound of just raw industrial drumming with guitar driven guts. White has said numerous times that they operated in a restricted form to purposely spawn creativity.
Never thought I'd see the day where being #17 On The List Of Top 100 Guitarists means you suck at guitar. Jack White is actually one of the greatest guitarists of modern times, He trained himself in Delta Blues, punk rock, and even classic rock. He doesn't have a tone like anyone else, and no one can truly replicate it, and that's what makes him a damn good guitarist.

jack white is not the best guitarist because he does not pay extremely fast or difficult song, which some ppl judge greatness by. but i think its measured in creativity and soul. he may not be the best of all time but easily the best of my generation. theyre my favorite band of all time
jack white is NOt the greatest guitarist ever thats for sure. if u think that he is then u must not know many other (better) guitarists out there.. he IS good at playing yes and is good at writing and making music but not the best ever.
he is a good guitarist, but he doesn't really choose to play really technical stuff that people judge as material for being the best. Its just not his style. Even with how he fingers chords. Really technical guitarists will do all sorts of different voices, he continues to use bar chords or basic voices that we all learn starting out.
People are fascinated by him though because of how great of a performer he is. I personally really like him because i love his outlook on music creation.
@abubacar Its not how you play, but the passion you play the six string with. Look at Kurt Cobain. Same damn thing the guy was a sloppy guitar player... Very basic skill required to play. But the passion he played it with made him great. And so is Jack.
@abubacar Good point, but Jack White has a great style, You never hear of Brian James of the Damned who is a wonderful guitarist and a great style/writer as well. There maybe satriani, mark Knopfler etc or all these great great technicians, who can be really ball achingly boring. He's an exciting performer looks cool and who has bags full of enthusiasm and energy. That for me constitutes as a guitar God, a great influence for future performers :D
The best was when TWS played the whole week of Conan and there Friday show was amazing, jack ends up playing on Conans desk with his slide, it was out of this world good....Whatever Jack does it amazing though so!
When he is live or being recorded he always brings it and slays the guitar and my soul in the process......I have seen some really crappy playing by him, like he doesnt care at some shows that you can only hear from people in the crowd recording so it doesnt really matter. I can understand not bringing it every night when you have been playing shows since 1998 and Jack does it all by himself! RIP WHITE STRIPES please come back and save the world!
I wish they were....I mean they might be but they havent put anything out since Icky Thump and Jack has been working with The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs for a while.....I heard something about Jack writing some stuff for a possible come back with Meg but I dont know they are divorced now and you know how that goes!
they've been divorced for over ten years now mate, they actually divorced since shortly before there first album came out and jacks been re married for some time now, icky thump only came out 4 or so years ago.
plus jack always said that the raconteurs and dead wheather are just side projects, the reason for there delay was because meg started suffering from anxiety attacks, apparently jacks already got a couple new songs written and they planning for a new album sometime late next year.
Yeah I know that but thats just footage of there last tour in canada. so its nothing new. I hope and pray that they will be coming out with a new cd soon and start touring, because JACK IS GOD! I didnt know they were divorced before there first album came out though, thanks for the info. Its always funny when you see live footage and Jack is always calling her his sister Hey are you a Third Man Records vault member cause you should sign up if your as big of Jack White head as myself!Take it easy
yeah they did a show on conan o'brien back in feburary and jack claims that backstage there they were writting a couple new songs,as for the sister thing they actually used that too cover up them recently divorcing since they were both in a bad spot and didnt want any personel questions about it till they had time to forget bout it all.
I understand them wanting to keep everything personel because it would suck with all the stupid questions they would have to answer.....Im sure Meg loved Jack marrying a model, that must have sucked for her....But Jack has made her millions so Im sure she is cool with it...You should sign up for the vault son, you would love it...They just gave away jacks jacket and shoes from The Dead Weathers new music video, Jack comes on live every month or so too..Im actaully going to the TMR store in June!
cool man thanks im deffinitly gunna have to join that now!
yeah but i think she was ok with it,she was maid of honour at the wedding and she recently remarried again herself so i'd say she's fine,i have a feeling it was just that they got married so young they werent sure how to handle it
I'm sure I'll get a dozen 'thumbs down' votes from people who don't know any better, but as the other commenter said, what he's doing at the beginning isn't the least bit difficult. All he's doing is rapidly strumming the low strings and moving up and down the neck.
@johnnytastetest well when you say it like that it doesn't seem impressive but i'm sure you aren't a musician or at least not a guitarist and don't understand that playing fast isn't easy its a skill you need to build up
You're mistaken, I'm afraid. I've played guitar for about twelve years now, and everything in the White Stripes' catalog of songs is a piece of cake for me to play.
I'm not really being arrogant. When I first saw this video I simply noticed that a lot of the comments raved about his playing as though this was a demonstration of some kind of guitar sorcery. I calmly and politely pointed out that it wasn't all that difficult, and then along you came, making assumptions about me not being able to play guitar, not being a musician, and how I wouldn't understand the alleged intricacies of this little clip. I was simply being a little defensive, is all.
thats so wierd the last video i saw was nitro by dick dale and then i started looking at the white stripes videos and devided to click this one there was no link or anything just pure coincidence
its not a given that you'll luv the racs.... they have a completely dif. flavor to them.... its like reefer and hash.... they both get ya high, but in different ways.
