  • Awesome!

  • thanks peter, you rock

  • Thank you, great stuff!!

  • This really helped me learn the song, thanks!

  • I must say thank you very much you helped a lot.

  • Great job of slowly explaining it all, sounds awesome and now I can learn to play this correctly of which will be happening fairly soon. There are easier incorrect versions out there that less gifted players can consider.

  • Fuck sakes I can't do this

  • This is very helpful. Thanks a lot for posting!

  • That's very, very close, but not quite. Many years ago, I found a book about the Who with an interview where Townshend showed the exact fingering for the opening of Pinball Wizard. You have it right until the last two chords of the intro. :-)

  • Oh yeah, let's dislike this. It's only........perfect!

  • Sounds great!!!!

  • Thank you peter . ! you are jay ..

  • he plays a sg

  • This was a really god lesson! Thank you :D

  • @Schmunken1 Good*

  • What strings do you have there?

    Is it western strings? ;)

  • great demo Peter. My guitar teacher owes me an explanation....:-)

Thanks very much from Montreal, Canada.

  • Excellent demonstration. :) Thank-you.

  • Great video. I can't do that silent move at full speed but if I just barre the second fret muting the E string instead I can hardly tell the difference. Thanks.

  • Great video. Thanks for uploading this :).

  • Great lesson!!! Love this song:D

  • The intro is so damn cool, finding myself humming Entwhistle's base line

  • brilliant...........I seriously hope you dont give a @*:*about any negative comments. Cheers

  • Thanks so much for this video - I really struggled with the chord shape (small hands!) until I saw your explaination, likewise you explained the strumming pattern really well.

  • On the last two chords of the intro, the B and E strings should be open.

  • Hi Peter,

Thanks so much for this lesson. I've been trying other sites for about 3 weeks and banging my head against a brick wall. You made it so much easier! Thanks again!

  • One of my favourite riffs, I have always wanted to learn it. Thank you a lot!

  • that is very impresive

  • peter, i gotta say the strumming sure helped me out this video was awesome!

REALLY REALLY helpfull lesson man, best lesson i found here on utube.

  • Peter...I will say it again, this was very helpful...I know this song pretty well. But regardless, it is very nice that you took the time to flesh it out for the viewer. Sorry that you have so many jackasses posting negative comments...bet they don't even play guitar.

  • @51actual Thanks a lot, it's good to know that there are people who comment on negative postings. It's about appreciation, thanks again. Peter

  • @rahulchadu111.....Some people in life give of their time to help others, and some people just sit on their ass and criticize others...I think you would be part of the second group. Who gives a fuck what you think. Have you posted any videos showing novices or learners how to play guitar?...Probably not...you are too busy being a world class douche nozzel...FUCK YOU.

  • @MsChrissummerfield...You're a douche. Why don't you show US how its done... hero.

  • @51actual what a hampton,xxxxx

  • Thanks for this......I know the song pretty well....but I posted it to a friend who recently started playing accoustic...it should really help...cheers.

  • okay.. I can't do the whole.. muting the A string with my thumb so I'm muting it with my ring finger.

It's still difficult but I feel like this way is actually something I can do.

  • best lesson 4 pinball wizard

  • thanks for the lesson...

  • Fabulous rendition. Great lesson.

Also, sag mal an.

    Alles Gute dann.

  • Ouch, my hand!

  • Thank you! You are awesome!

  • i broke my 6th string can i still play atleast something

  • This guy's guitar sounds incredible.

  • I like that, The Pinball Wizard Jangle, first time I heard it called that. Thanks for posting Peter. Danke schon.

  • Veeeeeeeeeeery good! Viele danke!!!

  • Thanks alot Pete!!! I play this everyday!!!

  • thanks a lot for your time, you're a good teacher!

  • Thanks a lot peter. I play this everyday

  • very interesting lesson. try turning on the auto-caption ing...the speech recongition's mistakes due to Teacher's accent in nothing short of hilarious!

thanks for the insight. well done.

  • @dyhanendra You're right turning on CC was hilarious. "This is jaco with a policeman", among others - too many laughs to type.

@Hotimprovisor Great lesson. Thanks for sharing.

  • i get such a sweet high off of that rhythm guitar part

  • thank you!

  • My Fret Board Is Huge...And Im A Girl With Small Hands....Can i Just Do It Open E String?

  • nice lesson :D TYSM

  • Hi great lesson have just about mastwered it but one thing can you please explain th estrumming pattern at 4.29 and 4.32 the sequence before th epinball wizzed jangle

  • great video can you please tell me what the strumming pattern for the sequence at 4.29 and 4.32 minutes into the lesson

  • Thank you! This was very helpful and very thorough, great tutorial!

  • Absolutely fantastic tutorial. Thanks!

Also - separated at birth.....Hank Azaria in "Along Came Polly". Guy looks EXACTLY like him.

  • I do the first part exactly like him but my cord is always to deep how do fix it

  • @methman29 Hard to say without hearing you. Is your tuning right? Some guitar tuners have a "flat" mode, maybe this is the reason.

  • this is a really good lesson, but the strum pattern sounds wrong (no offense). It sounds like pete townshed just strum's up,down,up, down,up, down, down.

  • If there were a Youtube Hall of Fame for guitar lessons, this video would be in it.

  • Does this work for the entire song or just the into?

  • Just to be a pedant - The last two chords of the intro (G - F#) have the top two strings open. I've seen Townshend's diagrams!

  • @Donneye I don't think so. The F# chord has a C#. I guess Pete doesn't draw diagrams. He makes people draw them. And people make mistakes...

  • My thumb really hurts when I start to do the part at 4:45. If I keep it down it doesn't hurt but once I release it to stretch my fingers it does, I don't want to force it and risk an injury. Any tips?

  • PLZZZZZZ Help me . I want to sing this song at the whole school , i learned it all but i miss 1 thing. The Rythm at the 4:30-4:38 i cant sing that part, i can play the notes with no problem. But the way wich it is? Up down ..??..??..??..?? i cant figure it out. PLZZZZZZ help me. I must sing it tomorrow 07.06.2010. I really need that part plzzz. I am asking you becuase you are the best i ever saw and listen playing Pinball Wizard. Please help me .

  • @FmanFlorea I'm explaning it in detail starting 5:50 so watch the whole video...

  • @FmanFlorea Could you tell us how it was? I mean , if you don't mind ;D

  • @phillmcgregor Well I will tell u its no problem with it.

So the song was a totaly succes ...... but there was a littel problem..... after i finished the song and recieved the clasps.... they wanted another one much dificult....and that one went bad ;D.

  • @FmanFlorea The crowd is the ultimate obstacle :D

  • It''s a Larrivee guitar, and he makes it sound great.

  • tancks for teaching me pinball wizard i played and i thinck i sound realy good you can check it out at my channel

  • Nice Lesson, it was really helpful.

  • Awsome Video thought it would be harder than this my fingers hurt from all that sliding thanks again cheers :)

  • Awesome!

  • Dude sweet glasses.

  • Loved this. Never could figure out the chord progression. Thanks so much Peter.

  • Awesome!

  • nice larrivee

  • wow! awesome

  • Just starting to learn guitar-I keep getting dead sounding strings.

Any advice on getting my right hand to press the strings down correctly?

  • @SuperWhofan1

    Are you lefthanded?

Always check which string gets muted by playing them separately. Then try to slightly change the angle of the fingers to make the strings sound correct. Don't press hard, this is not necessary. If you hold the string down with the correct angle of the finger you don't need to press it hard against the fret. Pull your arm backwards instead of pressing with the thumb. It takes a lot of time and practise. But the work pays out...

  • Take your time when placing your fingers for the first while. Play each string individually to make sure you got it. Most learning happens at night so you'll notice the difference after a nights sleep.

  • @SuperWhofan1 Also the closer your finger is to the fret bar the better the note will be. A lot of muted note are caused by beginners by their finger being too far behind the fret bar itself

  • @SuperWhofan1 get some classical toutorials they should improve ur feelings on the strings.. they did for me :)

  • Peter! What a time saver! Thank you very very much. Also, you set yourself apart just by having a separate camera operator for close ups etc. P.S. You're a good player.

    God Bless.

  • Ww awesome lesson, but the only problem I have is using my thumb to fret the low E string. Any tips?

  • @dtbjjrb let your palm wrap around the neck of your guitar and you thumb should lay right in place

  • @dtbjjrb once yyou have used your thumb enough it usuallly gets use to the feel and gets comfortabk\le

  • @dtbjjrb if it hurts you will just have to get used to it like how your fingers got used to the frets.

if it cant reach than you will just have to practice stretching it up there

  • @MrHippyhead Alrighty then.

  • @dtbjjrb

My problem was with not being able to mute the A string with my thumb while not muting the other strings.

I could still get my thumb on the E though so I'm planning to mute the A string with my ring finger.

    Hope this helps at all.

I thought maybe I could try to play the E string with my index and play two strings with something else and switch it up but this really seems to be the best way to do it.

  • @Chibbers

The way he is doing it or my way with playing the E with the thumb and muting the A with the ring finger is the best way.. just thought I'd make that clear.

  • @dtbjjrb if you hand is too small, and your using an acoustic guitar, then you have no choice but to wait until you grow up a but more. well actually, you can buy an electric guitar, because they typically have "thinner" necks, and you could probably comfortably get your thumb around there.

  • @TasteForDisaster True, I have an electric guitar but I'd like to learn it on acoustic. But playing on electric because of the thins neck is a good idea.

  • @dtbjjrb well you could use your index finger and bar all the way across. and then use your rin finger to mute the 5th string

  • What are the chords to the part where they go, "How do you think he does it?!"

  • @scartissue94

    D and C

  • This is an excellent video - thank you so much, sir.

  • ouuupsss i rated it 4* but i ment 5*..sorry and THIS LESSON IS PERFECT AND AWESOME!! THANKS FOR POSTING (:

  • cuales son las notas

  • Das ist eine mac Vati Gitarre.

    excellent video!

    Ausgezeichnet!

  • @levinethemachine Nein, das ist eine Larrivée SD 50 TSB.

  • Yes. I was trying some humor. It is a very nice "box". In my neck of the woods...when something is really really nice like your guitar...we say it is "Mac Daddy". My German is not so good...so I kind of "winged it". So, I guess Mac in German is Mac, and Daddy is Vati...short for Daddy, no? Anyway, excellent lesson...

  • @levinethemachine

    Got it! ;-)

  • Wow, that sounded great

  • Cheers Peter - you're a great teacher and are very competent. Nice one.

  • great lesson thanks

  • Thank you so much Peter, this is fantastic!!!

  • This is standard tuning.

He also plays it like Townsend does.

    No watering this one down.

If you cannot practice, practice, practice...then

be careful what you say...you don't want to sound ignorant.

  • this must not be in standard tuning..

  • YOU ROCK!!! LIKE THE WHO!!!

  • Thanks, I can't seem to get this down perfectly, but you make learning this song so easy!

  • Thanks

  • Thank you so much for this lesson Peter!

I and many others too would give at least their left foot to get a FULL lesson from you :- )

    Lets pray, guys!

  • excelent lesson!

  • Great sound!

  • This is the first complete song I had ever learned on guitar, 30-plus years ago. Once I had it down, I thought I was THE man! To play it on acoustic takes a bit of stamina and getting one's hands in shape. And to simultaneously play AND sing this is very tricky indeed. He plays some of the chords a bit differently than how I learned it - perhaps more efficiently/easier. Electric is MUCH easier to play, as one's acoustic chops diminish quickly without frequent practice. Cheers!

  • he looks like hank azaria from the simpsons

  • Thank you! I finally know the proper strumming. The one in Guitar Pro sounded crappy.
