  • Show me how to do it. I can listen to Rage when I feel like.

  • Washing machine? =D

  • It looks like a lil city :D

  • can you clean it with windex

  • Would be great if the xbox had a self-cleaning option like the ps3(ventilators speed up to pull the dust out of the console).

  • sound like you are raping at the bigining of the video

  • i have a messy compound clean up on the gpu.. it's like leaked all over the little contacts that are up and the paste doesn't seem to want to clean. i use alcohol to clean. the system is giving 2 red lights.. it must be the past, i tried cleaning as good as i can but still won't come off.... any suggestions. now the system goes right to 2 red lights as i turn it on no way it over heats like that. and the fan spinns fast right when you turn it on. anyone get this?

  • @champ0053 instead use proper thermal paste remover do not use alcohol, and put a tiny bit more pressure to clean it. everything should work perfectly after that =]

  • @fLuXxHD apparently i did get it to go, but it keeps going back to the 2 red lights, it's the dreaded 0013 - memory problem. i've tried the heat gun trick and puting something to push the memory chips down worked for awhile then now it's back to the drawing board. I don't have the equipement to do a reball or proper reflow so looks like this system is going to ebay.

  • A-lot of people say that you should use Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste on your Gpu/Cpu. But do you think I could use this one I have now? It's called Unick Silicone Heat Transfer Compound, please let me know if I could use it.

  • ffs, stop bitching about the song, just put it on mute. the video is whats important

  • thats right show the people the TRUTH!! f u xbox u aint charging me shit no more.. thx dude for video..

  • can you get banned by doing this response plesse

  • EPIC FAIL - bought the repair kit, had my dad (who builds computers for a living) do the repair, followed the instructions to T, three rings of death. Went from two rings to three rings. Waist of $24 on repair kit and silver arctic paste. Do yourself a favor and save your money.

  • @superchessgenius Dude your an idiot. This is too solve the 2 rings (over heating). After removing the Stock thermal paste, you are too apple a NEW thermal compound!!

  • @superchessgenius no your obviously just a fucking dumbass

  • Btw we used rubbing alcohol and it was a pain but it worked just fine

  • Btw we used rubbing alcohol and it was a pain but it worked just fine

  • Thanks for your video man. My brother and I did every thing step by step and we fixed our first gen xbox. Its amazing how some thing so simple and the lack of care from Microsoft can ruin your good fragging times. Once again thank you

  • WHY does it have to be under the heat sink

  • The heat sink is designed to take heat from the CPU and dissipate it away.

  • can u use nail remover

  • Nah the problem is that i removed the thermal paste and since then my xbox wont turn on, the power supply turns red not even the red rings show up so if anyone can help :)

  • @Guglielmo152 You NEED to have thermal paste between your CPU and heatsink and god forbid you don't apply a heatsink because the CPU will fry in literally 10 seconds.

  • Ok cheers

  • will the xbox work if you remove the thermal paste and not add any afterwards?

  • you need thermal paste

  • @Guglielmo152 youll fry it

  • No you will get 2 red lights

  • Can you put the heat sinks back on once it is all cleaned or do you HAVE to put on thermal paste?

  • goddam...i cleaned the CPU and GPU,but still e74

    help plox? =/

  • replace the X clamps with bolts

  • thx to you i repaired my xbox360 for less than 40 bucks instead of paying 140 bucks and sending it to microsoft so tey can do a botched job again

  • people say you cna use alcohol,is it true?

  • @MiraGhulag, you can even use vinegar if you'd like. Chemicly speaking, there isn't much of a difference between isopropanyl alcohol and vinear ;-)

  • @MiraGhulag

There's nothing wrong with using a high percentage (75%+) isopropyl alcohol solution to clean dies/substrates.

  • you put on new paste after

  • wouldn't that just wipe off the thermal paste? Thus overheating later as you play?

  • Rage against the machine

  • they need solidstate caps on those boards

  • When I first saw the 360 board I said to myself 'is it really that empty?' I wonder what the board of the Successor of the xbox 360 will look like.

  • GREAT song BTW!!

  • I love how the Q-Tip just warps into this grey dingy cotton ball haha. BTW I cleaned mine to a mirror shine, added ArcticSilver 5 but still wont work...its an E74 Error code

  • well it's the same thing as 3 red lights when re tighten screw the heatsinks back on very tightly and overheat for 20minuts with the fan on the CPU only. my first try i got green lights but no video so i had to re tighten the screws and overheat this time and it works like new.

  • watch my video i had e74 skip to like 5 mins though cuz u got to a far point in the repair

  • wat does cleaning them really do that i would take the time to take it apart and do that

  • did tht still doesnt work, probably just gonna send it in

  • Why does every average person feel the need to add crappy music to their vids like they're some big producer

  • If you consider Rage Against The Machine crappy music, I'd really like to hear what you consider good music.

  • 80's Metal all the waaay. KK Downing, George Lynch, D Martini? These guys Rock and they rock hard but Rage is ok too

  • @ShawnBecker1 Maybe some.. I dunno, Metallica, Disturbed, Korn, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, or maybe even a little Slipknot. The list of bands better then Rage is never ending. Just making this clear, I AM NOT trying to bash Rage, just providing OPINION as I am permitted to, as you are to yours.

  • @corymnoe your opinion sucksm all those bands suck, disturbed metallica and korn suck slighlty less then the other bands you listed though

  • @ShawnBecker1 i like rage but lamb of god is my kind of music

  • @ShawnBecker1 Jazz and blues. It actually takes talent.

  • dude im not a ratm fan but they're not that bad. and look at the bright side at least its not rap, cause i hate rap

  • rap is bs it is just computer beats

  • hey i have the problem wear i have no video but sound on my 360 everytime i turn it on? will doing this process fix my problem?????

  • wat's that song

  • Rage against the machine bring the power back

  • Cool ! I didn't know that a xbox was consisting this lol, btw are the cpu and gpu microsoft made or from some known company?

  • the chip on the motherboard IS the gpu (and cpu). You should clean the bottom of the heatsinks aswell as the top of the gpu and cpu cores.

  • what is thremal paste? and what kind of thermal paste are u using?

  • thermal paste is a paste the you apply to the top of the cpu and gpu cores. This paste creates a firm seal between the heat sinks and the cores and helps transfer heat from the cores to the heatsinks.

I just picked up a 2.5 gram of 'Artic Silver' ceramique compound for bout 5 bucks.

  • Arctic Silver 5 FTW yea this is the same thing with the CPU in your PC ^.^.

I just got my friends old xbox and it is over heating so I need to take off the heat sinks and such but the prob is >.> I don't have a screw driver that will fix the back plate l

  • do I have to clean it all the time?

  • I mean to open and to close the box just for cleaning it?

  • I wouldnt recommend opening your box if its still under warranty. Once you open the box warranty is void. As for cleaning them im a pretty heavy gamer and watch tons of movies so my box is on on the time. I never opened mine for 3.5 years. I thought I would find dust balls and dead mice but to my surprise it was pretty clean inside. A little dust collecting on the motherboard and dirty fans thats about it. i wouldnt bother messing with your box unless you have troubles with it

  • quistion...Are those that causes the red ring of death. because Im having 2 rings on my xbox. If I clean that. Will it play better then before?

  • i don't know i just got the 3 red rings but in your case it's an over heating problem get a can of air at you local stor it's for electronics i herd it's good and purposly for electronics, just make sure you don't have the xbox on doing this because a guy that works at the store says it's explosive/flamable.

  • you are better off buying a cooling station first

  • 2 rings (1-3) means overheating. This process helps with optimizing the cooling for the gpu and cpu. so most likely once you complete this whole process (which includes re-applying the thermal compound!)

  • where do you buy the thermal paste?

how long do you wipe the base?

can you post up a vid on disassemble and assemble?

  • Earbuds FTW!!!

  • For final clean up but I don't think it will take the paste off as good.

  • Can I use any of these things: Antec Silver Thermal Compound, Zalman CPU Thermal Compound &Silicone Heatsink Paste? These are for CPU so i'm not sure if I can use any of these for the 360. BTW, what is the name of the thermal paste that you used?

  • I'm fixing up my xbox cause I'm pissed I can't record shit and I wanted to know what the stuff Is you use to clean it and where i can get it.

Also, do you have to put more thermal paste over it again?

  • I got the thermal paste remover at Fry's Electronics. I'm sure you can get it at Micro Center as well or just Google it.
