your so inspiring, im 15 and have played classical violin for the last 9 years of my life but have been teaching myself this song with this video and it amazes me. thanx for teaching me how to bring some awesome music into my ears and onto my violin :)
Thank you so much for your introduction to the fiddle au Quebecois. I am in awe at your skill and the richness and range of sounds that you play. Just stunning, hard not to get up and dance. Merci beaucoup tduhk.
Amazing! You know - that really has a Norwegian sound to it too, especially when you're plucking the strings. It sounds like Norwegian folk music, as played with a Hardanger fiddle.
I am looking to buy a new fiddle. Im still playing on the one i began on. It's a cheap sounding one with a real cold tone. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good warm sounding one like the one she's playing. Thanks
Wow that good. I think I'll leave that one alone though lol. How does one put on an extra string? Are you drilling in another hole or how. Very cool style!
@phillaneseventhirty Its a 5 String Fiddle, you have to buy a 5 string fiddle. The neck is slighly wider to accommodate the 5th string with messing with your muscle memory, and the ribs might be taller as well. Its a specially made instrument.
Excellent instruction and rendition. I really like that low A on this tune too. It gives a nice bottom end to the open A tuning. Pierre learned the tune, like many fiddlers today, from the playing of Ti-Jean Carignan. I was with Pierre on the tour where he recorded it. One of my favourite pieces and you did it justice, darlin'.
i think you did this one last year at Leaf when you did a fiddle workshop with another band i can't think of right now...do you have a recorded version of Congress Reel?
Great job! Thanks for explaining the cross- tuning and keep up the promotion of the 5 String Fiddle. You are a pleasure to listen to. God Bless You and your family.
