  • i just did this to my 97 ranger. i used an extention for the last head bolt with out to much trouble.

  • Haha I just farted

  • thanks for not hidding your mistakes, it actually speaks highly of your level of confidence and know how, good video

  • Were yall get the intro music at?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah 5:46

  • Intro is too long, what a complete waste of time this was.....

  • @86forcerecon - OMG! A freakin critic! Good thing you didn't have to view a commercial too... (0:

  • Dam I love the music, were yall get the music at???

  • great video guys, keep it up, by th way, did ya shit yourself/

  • @Flybee1984 Nah! No brown streaked underwear here... ;O)

  • How much is a 88 dodge daytona worth with a blown headgasket? How much you think someone should pay for it? It still runs and drives but it has water in the oil..

    Thanks. :)

  • I had to do this on my '96 ranger a few months ago. It's a lot easier working on the engine outside of the truck! lol. Not so easy getting it back in there. Haha. Good job though. I like how you spend the time to do everything the right way instead of the lazy/cheap way.

  • sure wish I had a DAD like you..............

  • Hope your son appreciates having someone to show him the ropes of turning a wrench. My dad did it as soon as I could walk, and it took me a few years to learn to enjoy it, but I'm eternally grateful for that whenever I hear how much other people have to pay a mechanic to do something I can do on my own.

  • Thanks! We had a little snow today but nothing major here in N.E. Oklahoma. I really like the Ford 3.0L V6 engines but I have noticed that the water pump doesn't seem to last all that long. You almost have to replace them every time you put new tires on your vehicle. LOL!

  • @JITProductions you have to replace to water pump everytime u change the tiers ?

  • I just did one of these last month watching this was like deja vu

  • I can understand... Just as long as it does not become deja vu to me too! :o

  • You could have used studs to line that head up.

  • Less expensive to buy the stock head bolts which we did put in new bolts. The heads are kinda small and easy for me to maneuver since I have experience...

  • what tool it that attached to the drill to clean the parts

  • It is a 3M product you can buy at Auto Zone or just about any other parts supplier. The disk change out and come in different grades. They are more like the scotch brite pads...

  • Does anyone know if you have to have the heads machined after you blow a gasket? I gotta replace the head gaskets in my 97 F150 V6, and I don't really wanna spend the money to have the heads machined.

  • If the heads have many miles on them you would be better off to have them machined. If they are were off a recent build/rebuild then you might take a chance...

  • u should know not to use that scotch pad the grain is to heavy and you didnt take any precautions that it didnt get in the lubrication system

  • break cleaner and wire brush, works great! for cleaning the head and block surfaces. try not to scratch them.

  • You are trying to sound like you are an expert when you don't really know what you are talking about. You do not know what all we did to clean this engine and you do not know that we ran cheap oil that we changed out after running for a day or two. Thanks for NOT asking questions first...

  • I love seeing people use our free, public internet to share info with each other--that's democracy in action! Thanks for taking the time to document this ancient father-son bonding ritual. I found it while looking for reassurance that my '90 Ranger's engine knock is not serious... Enjoyed your vid's fun production crafting almost as much as watching your mechanical work. My truck's got the 4cyl Mazda engine. 243,000 miles -- hope it's just cold start knock. Are you a teacher?

  • We were lucky that we got enough good footage to put the three video series together. My son's did a great job shooting even though they protested at times. Your father-son bonding ritual had me in stiches, LOL! I am not a teacher by profession but I do teach... Thanks!

  • im not gunna lie. your son has a nice truck

  • its good practice to get them machined but they dont have to be check out my video's .. if you have any questions ill show in my video's

  • I just would like to start by saying that your video was very informational!

I have a 1984 Impala that has a blown head gasket.I was wondering if you don't have a clue what you're doing is this a HARD job to accomplish? My 2nd Question is When i get the heads off do I have to go and get them machined?

  • Geez I just realized you posted this part 2 May of 09 a year after the 1st part. Did you go away for a year? Against your will? Haha

By the way great series of vids on this one. My Lebaron has been smoking and gives off a horrible burnt smell as of lately. When I bought it the year before everything was A.OKay. Think its the head gaskests? Oh and what did you use to get that rust and stuff off of the head and block?Chemical. And what attachment on your on your PTool to to sandaway?

  • Business has kept me tied up! My iPhone ring tone for both my wife and office are the same since I am married to them both. I would hate to say one way or another concerning your car. The 3.0L heads were cleaned at the machine shop and we used a abrasive wheel you can pick up at Autozone. Regards!

  • Thanks for your reply! Would you recommend I get the entire head gasket set? Its expensive $140, but I really dont want to put put much money into this older car. What are the most important seals to get aside from the head, valve cover gaskets and O-rings? Thanks

  • You need to buy the FEL-PRO self seal (entire set) which should come with all your intake gaskets, fuel injector O-rings, valve seals, etc. The heads need to be taken to a machine shop, the radiator needs to be flushed and inspected, the water pump, thermostat, timing belt and pulleys should all be replaced while you are in there. I am assuming this is the 3.5L V6??? You never mentioned the year or engine type... You will spend $200 - $1K to DIY depending on how much you decide to do...

  • Again thanks for your response. Yep its a 3.0L V6 year 94, and was also advised by the people at auto zone to buy the whole FEL-PRO self seal set. I figure this should set me back a couple hundred bucks like you said, provided there isn't any major damage damage. Auto zone assured me that it isn't necessary to go to the trouble of having the heads cleaned, since I don't want to put anymore money then I have to in to this sold car, and to just use a gasket scraper. Only Need car to get to work

  • your neighbors must love you/////////

  • Great video. Wish you would have been able to shoot more of the assembly, like torquing sequence, etc, but I know how hard that is when you are trying to get something done. Did you use sealant on the head bolts? I didn't on my 4.0L and it is making me a little worried that they are threaded into a water passage and it will eventully leak. Its running good so far though after a couple months, so probably will probably be OK. Thanks again.

  • Defenitely! We needed a dedicated camera person for the job. We used loctite on the head bolts and followed the manual on the torque pattern.

HEY GUYS AND GALS! PLEASE BE SURE TO RATE OUR VIDEOS IF YOU LIKE THEM... THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS!

  • great 5 stars

  • THANKS FOR THE STARS! Look for our 1996 Buick RoadMaster video coming SOON! PLUS! We will have some cool burn out video from the 1992 Ranger shot on May 31, 2009.

  • GREAT video! Lotta hard work there, especially having to do the work outside. Where's the kid, inside playing videos?

  • THANKS! I love working under the "shade tree" when the weather is not too hot! It was a fight but I made my son work or nothing at all would get done, at one point I told him to take his damn truck to a mechanic to finish it I was tired of his b&*lSh1t! :-) Episode III "The Finale" is being uploaded as I type... Please be sure to rate the vids!!!

  • When I am in the camera view my oldest son (trucks owner) is running the camera. He did a really good job and I need to let him know that today when I give him a call. He no longer lives at home, the truck experience was too much and so we kicked him out. J/K :-)
