We have the same problem on Yahoo Finace message boards. If someone doesn't agree with your outlook on a stock they use the rating system to give your messsages just one star out of a potential five stars. Youtube and Yahoo should link a user's rating not to one vote per user account but one vote per ISP address. That wouldn't eliminate all the vote fraud because some people, for various reasons, have multiple ISP address. But it would eliminate a lot of it. ... PS. Dont get distracted by this!

We have the same problem on Yahoo Finace message boards. If someone doesn't agree with your outlook on a stock they use the rating system to give your messsages just one star out of a potential five stars. Youtube and Yahoo should link a user's rating not to one vote per user account but one vote per ISP address. That wouldn't eliminate all the vote fraud because some people, for various reasons, have multiple ISP address. But it would eliminate a lot of it. ... PS. Dont get distracted by this!

I was hoping not to attack you but demonstrate that votebotting is not innocous and without harm. There is some element of popularity and ego in the votes, but the point of expressing oneself is to reach people and inevitably express yourself to as many as posiible. The intention isn't to be notorious but create a dialogue. At the very least one can't assume to know her intentions.

ratings increase a video's popularity and views, ppl rely on the ratings to let them know that they shouldn't waste their time watching a video they might not like, and even if it MAY not matter, it's purposely and dishonestly defaming someone
