And in any case, you shouldn't be letting a wild animal become accustomed to humans in the first place.

@sakal88 No, this isn't possible with any of our cats, releasing captive bred cats back into the wild barely happens and if so the cats are pure genetic examples of the species. Our cats are cross bred and inbred, they have been human imprinted so they associate people with food and lack real hunting skills.

@TigerNrOne Our tiger enclosures have roofs on them and they're rooted top and bottom by trees etc... The steel lattice has 4x4 inch gaps that are spot welded on each joint so they are very strong, despite not looking it :)

@lachuteee I am not a volunteer at BCR, but I can always tell TJ, Bella, Alex, Snorkel, Shere Khan, China Doll and of course Zabu apart. Honestly their faces are very unique. I always adore TJ the most, I think he has a very special eyes. I know there are many more tigers at BCR, but we don't get to know much about the other tigers except those mentioned above. I hope BCR could make an introduction video for all the other tigers.

What do you feel about the rewilding program for tigers in south africa. I think its great. Theres a documentary about it called "living with tigers". Dave Salmoni succesfully teaches them to hunt and survive.

Tigers don't live in south africa, that's just were the program was filmed I think, it's a huge waste of time really, if we can't protect what wild tigers we have left and actually preserve enough habitat and prey for the cats already out there what's the point? What do you think?

Well there natural habitats, like india arent proving to be very safe anymore. Because human population in india is out of control. I think they have some what of a chance in africa. More pray, more reserves. Their presence there could change the ecosystem but I'de say its worth a shot since their numbers are dangerously low. Also its already been done. 2 tigers ron & and julie have succesfully been rewilded in south africa.

well I Know its a enclosed reserve, about 150,000 acres, with game animals that are wild. so I'm not sure if that technically wild, but they stalked/hunted the animals. Documentary is called "Living with Tigers"

Zoos don't really want any of the cats we rescue, in many case we don't know their full history and zoos only want pure genetic specimens so they can be used to breed etc..

Why can't the zoo save more abandoned big cats instead of breeding them? It's said that there are more abandoned cats happening in North America, and there are many private residents are allowed to keep big cats. I believe there are more tigers from the industry than from the wild.

I don't think that's a good idea. First of all, the zoo doesn't have more spaces than BCR. In BCR, all animals saved are big cats. In the zoo, please! They stuck 5 or 6 tigers inside a limited area is too easy to understand. Do you really think the zoos that cage over 100 different types of animals would take pity on those abandoned big cats?

Second of all, zoos only care about business. They probably look for breed a liger or white tiger just to attract more visitors.

They shared the same enclosure for a long time when we first rescued them but however over time they had little squabbles now and then and they were separated when TJ was neutered. Since then they have lived apart and seem to enjoy this more, they are neighbors and see each other all the time :)

Not only poachers should he worry about, but also the highway drivers and fellow tigers would be a giant killer too. Tigers in captivity like zoos, they might lose their freedom but they are at least safe from poachers, well fed and not worry about being attacked by other tigers like all the cruel things happen in the wild.

Unfortunately Trucha passed away from cancer not too long ago, but only TJ goes crazy in the water, Bella and Modnic aren't like him!

There's only two enclosures that have access to the lake (3 acre & 1 acre) this is Shere Khan and China Doll and Snorkel's enclosures. All our tigers have pools as you can see, it would be fun to see what TJ would do in the lake, that is deep! Do you think he would dive?

It costs us around $7500 a year just to feed a tiger/lion/liger this is using good quality meat and a specially prepared carnivore diet with added minerals and vitamins, plus we feed them whole prey (rabbits) once a week. $7500 is without any vet care/enclosure/enrichment etc..

My daughter has inherited my love for big cats. Big cats and swimming are her passion. This is her favorite video, she watches atleast once a day. Most of the time they will seek shelter, depends on their mood. Of course last week when we were handing out watermelons it started raining and TJ was still in his pool playing with his destroyed watermelon!
