they came to the Waterford Speedbowl. They put on a great show. I was talking to "crash" there clown in the infield. he drinks. His real name is Jerry. he drives one of the car carriers. he has a flask full of whiskey. lol.. They all arrive at the track in the morning. Then around 2pm. They go out on the track and practice for the night's show.
OH my goodness. My parents and I used to go to the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa. The Chitwood thrill show was my FAVORITE. What memories this brings back.
Joie Chitwood and his crew are real American legends... in addition to the '56 Chevrolets! Tri-Five Chevys and Joie Chitwood are a recipe for success!!
The Chitwood show would come to them Hemlock, NY Fair each year. I remember in the early '50s when they were still running Fords. They switched to Chevy in 1955 I think. In the '70s Joie Jr. and younger brother Tim Chitwwod were the stars of the show and the cars were mostly Camaros and a couple of Vegas. I cooked their breakfast at our local fire department's food stand on the midway. They were class guys.
That race track looks like every race track my family raced at back in the '50s. And about every year or so, Chitwood would come and give us thrills. I haven't thought about that in a long time. It was good to see it again.
I delivered car to sale with an X chitwood driver I commented how we drove as a group one day saying we wear like the chitwood thrill show the guy whiped out a pic of him in uniform with joie
