  • Beau document, merci !

  • He recorded Il Trovatore with sadlers Wells Opera. Classics for Pleasure re-issued with 2 other Verdi operas in English. Highlights only. Craig excellent in the Trovatore.

  • Wonderful Listen to my other Charles Craig posts

  • Sena Jurinac is again wonderful - in this role - her repertoire was pretty wide - Puccini to Verdi to Mozart and Strauss! One of my fave sopranos from the golden Vienna State Opera days! Thanks for this.

  • Yes he was very good in my trov. LP and I had remembered that but have not heard it in years, probably still have it.

  • He's a tenor I'd like to hear more from but haven't seen many recordings available; there is one CD I could get I think. For an English tenor he's excellent actually.

  • I have a recording of him singing an English version of 'dein ist mein ganzes herz', where he sings a Db at the end. His voice had a great top extension.

  • I saw Charles Craig in Othello, he stepped in at the last moment, he was 63 but you never would have guessed it, he had great stamina !!

  • Beautiful. Sena is one of my favourite sopranos.

  • I used to have hilite--I think it was Travviata or Rigoletto with him on a single LP from the English sadler wells opera co. studio rec. in English many years ago and he was very good on that one also.

  • @halavey The recording you had was Il Trovatore.Craig was a great singer.Greatly inderrated by the U.K.

  • Very fine singing well discernible. Suggest Jurinac and Mme Butterfly be placed ahead of Craig in your tabs. This likely to get more meaningful links in related videos.

  • For duets I usually go by who sings first in the recording and it happens to be him.

  • Jurinac is very, very good with her soaring tones but Mr. Craig, while having a really beautiful sound, seems more than a bit overparted when heard next to Jurinac who, after all, was a well known Fidelio.

  • @gaytenor Craig was a highly rated Florestan too, listen to my posts

  • @gaytenor Craig actually had a fabulous, large, spinto/dramatic voice, much larger than Jurinac (as can be heard in his Otello and Manrico YouTube selections) Here he's doing a great job of singing lyrically, partnering Jurinac politely in a somewhat self-effacing manner, that was appropriate in England at that time. As a tenor you will note that his piano singing is quite amazing for a heavy voice. Now listen to his Esultate ...
