I visited a town with a population of 260 in southern VA called "Fancy Gap". The town had a 20 mile access road (Fancy Gap Hwy) that was built for no other reason than to link it to another podunk town...and now has 3 other access roads. Alaskan tax dollars have paid for "roads to nowhere" in the Lower 48 for decades while we don't even have a road to our state capital.

I visited a town with a population of 260 in southern VA called "Fancy Gap". The town had a 20 mile access road (Fancy Gap Hwy) that was built for no other reason than to link it to another podunk town...and now has 3 other access roads. Alaskan tax dollars have paid for "roads to nowhere" in the Lower 48 for decades while we don't even have a road to our state capital.

The roads were built between 1950-90. I don't know how that would translate in todays money. I do know that roads through mountains can cost hundreds of times what those on level ground do. Fancy Gap is on FG mountain. How many billions are spent to build and maintain monster Lower 48 projects like the Overseas Highway. Total FL keys population even today is only 80K. Point is that massive projects are undertaken in low population areas in the Lower 48. Alaskans have helped fund them since 1959.

The Keys are a major international tourist destination.The keys have an anual revenue of sale tax of about 3.5 BILIION dollars (7.4 sales tax). Remember this is JUST sales tax just to give you a rough idea.

The Gravina Island Bridge was a bridge that was going to be built that connected a small airport to Ketchikan Ak.
Palin used the issue to build support for he governatorial election(for the bridge)but it became a national embarasment because it was going to cost around a half billion dollars and brought to national attention and quickly was killed.
Palin did keep the money for it and used it for other things. This is an embarrassment at worst untill she started lying about it rewatch vid.

I agree. It seems that the line "Thanks, but no thanks," insinuates the initial endorsement by the first "thanks) that Matthews reported on (the "not exactly the truth part), but then the final decision to not support it with the "but no thanks" section. It's typical Republican lingo to sum up a great deal of information in a one-liner, and she did just that.

Ok. That was 2 yrs after katrina. And, we all know none of the money would have ended-up helping those people down there. Earlier this year they had warehouses stacked to the roof with products for the victims. The good ol' USA, shipped it all to other countries. None of it helped the hurricane victims.

The thousands of rotting trailers really get my goats too. But the money that was to be diverted from the Bridge to Nowhere would have been pretty hard to hide as it was going to go to the rebuilding of the Interstate 10 Twin Spans Bridge between New Orleans and St. Tammanys Parish.

Liberal bias? I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "bias". Why should YouTube, MSNBC or anyone else NOT report such a ridiculous lie told over and over and over? Palin is on the record as supporting the bridge, didn't change her stance until it received national ridicule (including from McCain), and STILL kept the money!
