  • sony always fails in the beginnnig but it keeps the promise , i remember ps1 2 , launch titles werecrap , but time showed whos the king

  • yes it is :D

  • Again the sonyers explaining the expensive price of their console. I have the best games on Xbox360 NOW!!!

  • this benchamerk was test on ps3 and xbox 360 and 8800gts!

the xbox 360 finished the benchamrk in 10 seconds

the 8800gts finished in 5 seconds!

the ps3 finished in 1.2 seconds!

thats mean the ps3 is more powerfull than 8800gts ! ]

    the Cell Rules!

  • I would like to pit my i7 with a GTX285 and 12 GB RAM against your PS3...

  • naah lol

that reg sure will beat the ps3

  • Hehe fuck consoles.

  • Is this what they are using in Farcry 2? I don't know much, but it seems like Farcry 2 uses 4D which will be on the xbox 360 as well. The trees grow back whn you kill them over time.

  • Great job

  • I can see the freamrate stuttering and this is a pretty low poly scene. The UT3 engine does better on the PC afterall ^^

  • this is the ps3 system

  • The UT3 Engine sucks anyway compared to other engines around.

  • It's on PC!

Their tools can be used with most any game engine. Here it was used for comparison only & it is completely outdated now, by their new procedural rendering tools called "Substance"!

On the PS3 "Substance Engine" can outperform newest quad core PC's using the same tools!

It all boils down to this simple fact! No other Processor except Cell BE is an Asynchronous multi-core Processor! ha..

That's why they call The Cell BE a Rendering Farm of individual computers on one Chip! :D

  • You made me love my PS3 more.

  • sweet so this is why people are paying 500-600 dollars? lol have funn

  • First off it's $399 and $499! For a Game Machine that on this Bayou Demo generated and loaded it in a 4th of the time of a PC w/Nvidia 8800 GPU (5 seconds) and that GPU costing as much as this whole console! Plus 8 times faster than Xbox 360 w/Xenos (10 whole seconds). A snail crawls faster!

  • That was 8mos ago (PS3 1.2 seconds) before it was optomized. ProFX is being used in "Uncharted" Generating Complicated Scenes in (0.0 seconds) on the fly in Real Time!!! That's faster than you can see and gives you just enough time for one breath between scenes!;) PS3 where the competition doesn't stand a chance in hell in a quick draw contest! With PS3, SPEED does indeed kill the competition!!! LOLz@them

  • Can someone give me an example of a procedurally generated, 4d texture used in any current game?

Like, point one out one specifically?

I'm just looking for an example of one, or what to look for.

  • A perfect example is the entire "Uncharted" game. 4D textures are ones that actually interact and change according to their surroundings. Like Full 4D characters that get wet and dry off or dirtier over time. In "Uncharted" you will see cuts and scrapes that weren't in the beginning of the scene. Aging of Snake as we play, 4D. A screen inside of a screen we can manipulate in real time as in HOME, MGS4 and Uncharted! All 4D Real Time Texture Generation "Live" on the Fly!!! ;)

  • Here we textures in this scene, that are living and changing over time according to the rain. The difference is although PC's and Xbox 360 can do this, no other Game and Graphics machine can do it "Live" in Real Time on the fly and that's what makes it True 4D in the first place. Otherwise everything else is pre-rendered like watching a pre-recorded tape where even enemy animation isn't natural and LIVE!!!

  • Dude, no offense, but much of what you guys attribute to generic profx tools in current ps3 games, are simple pixel and vertex shaders. Even what's in this demo, are generic procedural textures, loaded to ram, and used as imput for shaders. No different than loading them from disk or HDD.

You're thinking of their other generic demos.

  • @Swapnil404 Dudette! No offense, but you have no idea what you're talking about. For pre-rendered stuff, yes it goes to memory. But this is the PS3 with Cell BE 9 cores. Even if it just uses 6 cores, for this it's configured as if it's 6PC's in a row (series) for Streaming. Each PC is assigned a different task and the entire Scene is Streamed Straight to the Screen ON The FLY in REAL TIME!

  • Neah. Any texture generated by Cell, has to be written to xdr,and read by RSX,or written to GDDR3,and read from there. The gpu is dumb,it knows not where data comes from. And all of these effects are shaders, that use procedurally generated textures as input. I understand what you're assuming is going on in this video, but I honestly don't see it,and see no evidence to the contrary.I get the concept of modifying the base textures to reflect "time",but things like animation in the water,is a shader.

  • dude, i played games on my pc with procedural animation and textures YEARS ago.

  • @Ehal256 Dudette #2!

Up until recently procedural animation hasn't been possible without a monster PC or a whole Server Farm run in real time. While pre-rendered procedural texturing and 4D animations have been around since Amiga Demoscene days. But this entire scene can be generated and render to screen in 1.2seconds. Warning: Don't try this at home with your PC n 8800 GPU it'll take 4 times as long! ;)

  • How can you say only PS3 supports this. Bioshock uses this engine.

  • Bioshock only has moments of using ProFX to load Procedurally Generated textures. No volumetric rendering, no ProFX 4D, no on the fly real time procedurally generated textures, no resolution free textures, etc. But it's all being done on the PS3 in Uncharted and it's doing it without load screens. No other platform can do that! It's the Cell BE Asymmetrical Cores as compared to PC and X360 Symmetrical Cores.

  • wth is a resolution-free texture? that doesnt even make sense. once again, my pc can EASILY do this.

  • Resolution Free as in an OpenGL PNG on the Linux Fusion FX Desktop. It means as you Zoom in or out, that the Resolution scales with it. Whereas in Bimboz (Windoze)XP or Vista Aeroglass with BMP or JPG, you merely zoom into magnified pixels. This is the "Resolution Free" attribute of certain texture and image formats that require OpenGL to "RF" render them!!! nub!!! ;)

  • that's not resolution-free then, just a catchword. I just hadn't heard of it.

  • When you can't see the pixels even when you zoom in? Dude, that's as resolution free as you can get! Next closest is procedural particle/volumetric and Raytracing! PS3 can do all of those better than a PC with an 8800GPU! Watch GDC for the announcement! ;)

  • yeah thats right the 8800gts finish at 5 seconds! and the ps3 finished at 1.2 seconds =)

    the Cell Rules

  • nice the 880gts is bout 70 quid now am i right?

  • sorry,what do you mean ?

  • the price

  • oh yeah smothing like dat :D

  • ProFX can run in any modern engine. UE3 can't do Procedural Textures w/o "ProFX", though! But when are you Xbox 3fixme clowns getting Unreal Tournament III? ...HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED IT (Mark Rein says, LOLz)! Right now the best graphics are on PS3. Uncharted, UT3, LAIR, Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, HAZE, and don't forget MGS4 will always be Exclusive! Most other games like COD4, TimeShift, Jericho, Stranglehold are Multi-Platform! ;)

  • sonyps3, wow chill, wtf . I had UT3 demo for a few weeks now on

my pc, and it will be out for pc IN 2 DAYS , and

it will be out for ps3,360 next year, and by the way ut3 is finished for the 360.

it will be out 2 to 3 months right after ps3, and thats because

sony tried to make it exclusive and all they got was a time delay.

    so get your fact right.

  • Looks like Xbox 3fixme fools like you got duped, conned, burnt, and Killzoned! Playing UT3 on my PS3 with Keyboard and mouse kicking cajones out of lamers like you! LOLz@ your maybe getting UT3 next Christmas!!! ROFL kicks over RROD X3fixme door stop!!! ;) ...oh, and PS3 version looks better than my PC! hehe

  • Its uh...still not out for 360..4 months later...you fail

  • umm, just to let you know, i've played all the games that you listed (the ones that are actually out) and crysis still looks substantially better. just uh putting that out there.

  • i know your comment was a year old but i think ninja gaiden 1 was xbox game 1st? and then they brought a version for the ps3 that has been stated as unfinished then xbox 360 got number 2 :D which is alot better, get good scrub

  • 318kb? fucking shit thats amazing

  • unreal engine rox man

    good choice

    *me loves unreal tournament'99 :P

  • Nice pitch-black video showing off their awesome textures in the dark.

  • ndsfreakV2 ur fukin dumb dude. read up on this before u make comments.

  • mMm PS3 sexy.... 360 errr zzz tick tick zap yawn

  • 4D My ass. The only thing that can accually be "4D" is real life. They just programmed the thing to do everything.

  • Keep telling yourself that......

  • umm, it is programmed, nub, procedural doesnt mean it randomly generates textures by itself.

  • Well they make some great developer tools. Epic is using them as a middleware vendor. These tools were used in RoboBlitz for Xbox 360. Most of the big game developers like what they are doing. Expect to hear from them in the near future!

  • sonyer

  • Those graphics are purdy.

  • Thats an awesome video. Would you happen to have a link to more videos like that, or perhaps more information on the company making that demo?
