  • Brilliant!!

  • Not clever. Douchebag.

You might as well hold up a huge sign saying how big of a retard you are.

  • I watched this video on my iPhone.

  • @misterfilmguy: My comment was based on a hypothesis concerning the intention of this response to David Lynch's video; you can take or leave the hypothesis but you can't argue that it's irrelevant without explaining what you think that intention was. Simple contradiction does not an argument make. (By the way, I'm only writing this - 2 years later! - to clarify what I meant. If you want to continue the discussion, please cool your jets.)

  • lots of mad nerds in these comments

  • ur so clever hurr durr

  • This is epic

  • would've been funnier if it was recorded on an iphone

  • rad, I think lynch would love it

  • This is so meta.

  • This guy has been cheated. And he needs to as the great David Lynch said, "GET REAL."

  • If David Lynch saw this video, he would be thinking, "is this guy retarded, apparently somebody didn't get the message."

  • He's making the same argument against watching movies on Phones as people do against watching it on TVs. I have to agree that something is lost watching a movie at home, alone, compared to a movie in the theater. So I've got to agree with him on the phone thing too. You can see the movie but you can't get the effect that seeing something in the theater does. Does that mean that you shouldn't do it? No, but understand you are going to lose something, maybe too much, seeing something on a phone.

  • I just experienced a video on a phone in a video on a computer about not experiencing films on a phone.

  • @MountAnalogue And I just experienced a simulation of replying to a simulation of commentary on a digital website on a video of a phone playing a video about not viewing films on phones...

The amount of lynchian levels in this video is astronomical!

  • In the immortal words of David Lynch iphone "Bullshit!" "total fuckking bullshit" Cinema is true original moving picture medium! iphone is not original!

  • gay

  • i did not experience this video on that...fucking phone! get real XD

  • What is amazing is that someone actually carried out something like this......

  • its just sad that you think you understand David Lynch's message on your......FUCKING telephone. GET REAL.

  • @QuietGiantProduction It's not that difficult to understand, "Baww ww, I'm being left behind because I've already settled into my niche," on any medium.

  • @QuietGiantProduction it's such a sadness!

  • im gonna take it up a notch, and film a video of me watching THIS video on an iphone

  • Come on and do it then :( It's been 2 months and I wanna see that.

  • now watch it over and over again until it reaches 1hr 45 minutes. see if you "experience" it.

  • it's such a sadness ,yes...

  • As much as I agreed with David Lynch, this has got to be the funniest video response ever. Lighten up and just take it at face value guys. lol. 90% of us know Lynch is right. Take humor.

  • @Monsieurcourval

    David Lean once said

    "cinema is original... television isnt"

That is very so much true!

doesnt matter how fucking great bluray is its still video line resolution at the end of the day! Its not pure film! Or even digital cinema which would leave bluray in dust many times over! I own Bluray and so far not been impressed with its picture or sound! Only few ever make it though with 10/10 picture and audio.

  • that's an interview, not a movie, you fuckin' idiots!

  • David Lynch tiene razón

  • I'm a PC.

  • "it's such a sadness that you think you've seen a film on your fucking telephone"

  • haha this is ironic... because it looks and sounds like shit

in fact this perfectly illustrates lynch's point. watching a film on an iphone is like watching a film on a screen that's filtered through another screen. the additional level of remove means you are not experiencing the film as a film. i imagine your entire perception is like this.

this smug hipster sashay bit is getting old. my reaction is transforming from contempt to rage.

  • it looks like shit cuz he took a video of it. i have an iphone and i have movies on it and sad to say but the picture quality is better on that then some tvs ive seen before.

  • @lxweapon Have you ever watched a bootleg where they just snuck a camera into the theater? The camera is shaky and the screen is always too bright or too dark and the audio is both muffled and tinny.

But that doesn't mean that the big screen is a badwrong medium for watching movies, it just means that the bootlegger couldn't be bothered to get high quality camera and microphones.

PS It's kind of ironic that you're accusing the uploader of being smug when you're admittedly full of "contempt."

  • i watched this on my ipod touch lols

  • If this is intended as a witty response to David Lynch's comments, it sadly misses his point. His point is not that visual information cannot be conveyed over a mobile phone (an argument no sane person would make) but that a "movie experience" cannot be had over a mobile phone. That of course begs many questions and you might conceivably counter his argument in any number of ways. However, simply filming yourself playing back his comments on an iPhone, is not one of those ways.

  • @johnnyknack No part of your comment has anything to do with the video you are commenting on. You're giving a rebuttal to an argument you yourself started in the very same comment. If David Lynch read it, he'd tell you to fucking get real.

  • I have an phone and I fkin heart it I'm not one of these nutters who thinks its going to solve world hunger or kill maggie thatcher but I think its good. BUT FOR FUKS SAKE ITS A 3.5 INCH SCREEN JESUS HOW CAN YOU WATCH A FILM ON THE PALM OF YOUR HAND YOU FKING IDIOTS!!!

  • what the fuck did you have for breakfast mate

  • probably crack... and nails lol

  • these should be a Iphone comercial.. you know, like that comercials that David Lynch does for different things ... i mean.. it's so fitting :D

  • You should have used those extra seconds to give the video a rating.

  • Very strange... although 15 seconds longer than the original "David Lynch on iPhone" it seems... like I am missing something here.

Time to get real. Perhaps. Very strange.

  • It took him 16 seconds to open the video at the beginning and close it at the end.

  • yeap agree with lynch .. no experience on phones

  • stick your iphones in your asses

  • Epic troll is epic.

  • typical apple - hes against the whole idea of watching a film in a little window and apples holding it up as some kind of triumph because their little windows a bit bigger - pffft

  • Enjoy an MP3 or movie on an airplane, and the screen size is almost perfect. You can even read subtitles.

  • How about Romper Stomper?

  • he's right.

  • I think the point has just been proven.

  • David is right!

  • pomo

  • how postmodern

  • whats funnier is you actually wasted money on the iphone

  • That was a witty response, but I must agree, there are just some movies that you HAVE to experience in the big screen or you're just watching it. For example, STAR WARS. There is no way you can get the full intention of the magnitude of space, the ships, the battles on an iPhone...and I am talking from a point of view of someone who has an iPhone. I will say that I enjoy that portability convenience though..LOL On a trip, a waiting room, or line, it is nice to have... :-)

  • How about LOST HIGHWAY?

  • Haha! Brilliant idea!

  • "You will think that you experience the film, but you will be cheated"

That's probably a joke constructed about the fact that movie is an illusion.

Or he probably means that when you run it on a iphone, you have to turn it 90 degrees. When you watch it normally, the microphone looks like an axe and the surroundings suggest that it's Quakes's e1m7. That mens that Lynch is the Chaton - yay! And this means that he reads the comments ;P

  • exode213, shoot yourself in the face please.

  • Keep in mind, Lynch is a guy who avoids chapters on his DVD releases, because he thinks it takes away from the experience of watching a film in one sitting. A bit obsessive. The idea of experiencing the magic of a film anywhere, taking it with you, is beautiful. You hear it, you see it, so what if it's on a portable device? Has the film's story somehow been reduced along with the screen? Doesn't compare to a theater's magic, but it's still a Goddamn film regardless.

  • I think it's about the atmosphere and taking in the film for what it's worth. Minute details and attention, too. It's the difference between listening to a record on a high grade audio system and listening to a low quality mp3 through a cell phone speaker. You can still listen to the song and take it with you but the experience is so much different.

  • No irony here. That was a blurb, not a movie.

  • Heh, gotta love the irony, I have to admit.

  • love lynch. still true.

  • I always thought that telephones is to talk, nothing else. In fact, there are some aplications that fits, but defitely video aren't one of those.

  • Lynch puts a lot into his audio soundtrack/score, that comprises 50 percent of the movie experience, that can never be realized via these miniature playback devices. I prefer watching (listening to) his movies at my home on a 5.1 surround system. THAT is more of total movie experience, to me.

  • I kind of feel bad for film makers. Over the decades, the experience of watching a movie has become less and less of a big deal. The VCR, the mass amounts of formulaic Hollywood movies, small screens, and so on.

I don't necessarily agree with Lynch, but I'm keeping things in perspective.

  • My opinion was that his point was that a Film will not engrose or be captured fully on something that doesn't take up a large percentage of your sense. For instance a large screen in a dark room with a clear audio setup would be a superior experience to watching for instance on your iphone, Get real. I personaly have watched a film on a Psp.

Being of similar size I found it less entertaining than watching the same film on a Larger screen.

  • it's such a sadness, that you think you saw david lynch on your fuckin telephone... get real :)

  • I saw him at a bookstore, he was speaking to about 200 people all packed in like sardines. At least, I think it was him.

Waves his right hand a lot, right?

  • whats your point?

  • the point is irony

  • noo, this is the new inspiracion for 6 hours of ego

  • This is pure genius. Lynch should appreciate the irony.

  • hahaha

  • haha

  • hahah

  • Thanks for proving him right on a very small scale.

  • I figured I would see a response like this as soon as I saw the initial video.

Not exactly original, but funny nevertheless. I think even Lynch would have laughed at this one.

  • i don't think lynch puts "youtube" and "film" together. it doesn't quite work, at all.

  • ok. not really sure what the point of that was.

  • Irony

  • go to the movies ,,,!

    hahahaaha

  • come on do you people have no sense of humor at all ? "not a film" ???? i think you totally missed the point of this video

  • Nothing better than David Lynch in your pocket.

  • Psych!!!

    Bravo!

  • Ahhh, poor baby...did he hurt your feelings?

  • not a film.

  • Well, this has proven to me a video on a cellphone is worse than the same video on my computer. I don't want to imagine what watching a good movie on a cellphone is like.

  • I have no idea what your point is. He never said iphones were ruining theaters, he said it's moronic that people actually think they can enjoy a movie on a phone.

  • Lynch didn't seem to mind doing a show on the small screen (television). My point is change is neither good nor evil, it's simply change. He's a dinosaur and so are we.

  • lol he's not saying iphones are bad because he's afraid of it replacing theaters, he's saying that people who think they've seen a movie on their phone are basicly tasteless retards who have no real love for the cinematic experience. it doesn't have anything to do with technology or the market, it has everything to do with art appreciation

  • Can I kiss you? hehe

  • Get real! Have you ever even seen an iPhone? And a TV? Compare them, you WILL find a striking deferens, especially - I think - on SIZE! Sheesh! Are you out of your mid! Do you think you could EVER get the sensation you get from watching Twin Peaks or INLAND EMPIRE on a TV when watching it on a phone??

Greetings, the feature. (A child that is).

  • I thought the video was funny, not really making a point or proving Lynch wrong. Not everything is definitive. Lynch's point still stands and is funny as hell, but I feel the notion that it is highly likely that someone may have first viewed that video on an iPhone - that's comical to me.

Some movies probably aren't destroyed on an iPhone (Hitch?), but in general why would you want to look at a small picture of a painting in a magazine when you have a chance to see it at a museum.

  • yea it definitely depends on the movie... a youtube video of course isn't going to be better on the big screen, & maybe some of the teen comedy movies

  • HAHA! I can't believe people are getting angry and calling him "an idiot" because he has uploaded this video. Why in the world would this make you angry? Fucking furious YouTube users, take your pent up teenage rage somewhere else.

  • You're an idiot.

  • What? And thats it? You spent your spare time recording and uploading a video of David Lynch on your iPhone?

Did you think it was ironic? Fuck me you are a sad case.

  • i love how its probably the only time lynch has ever cursed so he totally makes it count lol

  • actually Lynch has a pretty dirty mouth by some standards. Watch his behind the scenes stuff, he can really go off

  • LOL, thanks for posting - Hooray for David 'Fucking' Lynch!

  • Lol! He's right! Even a video of someone talking is shit on the iPhone!

  • Wow, this video response actually proofed Lynch right!

  • Yes!

  • Well played!

  • love it!!!

  • Oh the irony!

  • lynch is talking about film and not fucking videos. what contraddiction? a video of somebody talking is NOT a film in fact.

  • I don't think this person is trying to contridict David Lynch. Relax, enjoy your life. Not everything everybody does is a political statement. If anything you could argue that this video proves David's point. But no bodys arguing. Take some prozac or something...jesus

  • ahahahha. you made me laugh. I am gonna take some right now. maybe it will make me speak backwards... however, be vigilant! I love films and music and what i see is that their quality is going down day by day.. I don't want to be political but that just makes me angry. ok, ok now i go and get some prozac (+).

  • WOW

I thought the point was Films were shot to be watched on something larger than a postcard not if Apple makes good stuff or not.

  • i wish lynch watch this, the contradiction is hilarious:)

  • What contradiction? There is no contradiction. Not on David's part anyway.

  • Get real!

  • fuckin nice!

  • Absolutely fascinating. Does watching a movie in a movie theater preclude wanting to also see content on your other devices? Why can't people be "both/and"??

  • please keep doing this. I mean make a NEW vid with this vid inside it on an IPhone, and then make a new vid with THAT vid inside it... and again and again and again. if I had an iPhone I'd be doing this!

  • wow and i thought the original was funny. Good job dude.

  • This is brilliant.

  • DL commands thee get real!

  • i love my iphone to pieces, everyone who has seen or played with it instantly want 1..end off!

  • Such a sadness.

  • iphones suck, an come to think of it, everything Apple Macintosh ever did sucks.

  • aint tryna b clever or anything but apple macintosh is NOT a company, its called APPLE and their computer product lines from 1984-present are named macintosh.

  • Who gives a rat's ass? They're trying to look interesting with their silly name(s). I'm starting to be disgusted by everything starting with an "i".

  • they shoulda named safari "ibrowse"

  • hehee

  • David lynch edited his last 3 films on an apple computer. That's the dream within the dream that you're missing.

  • I'm perfectly capable of editing film on other systems. (More and better tools for it out there too.) They only use Apples because they have too much money and think it's trendy or looks 'cool'. You're just another classic example of having fallen for their trickery.

  • EXACTLY! i edit both mac and pc also, i hate the whole rendering part of final cut.

  • Yeah, I always found the word "pro" a total misnomer, Final Cut pro is the amateurs version of Adobe Premiere. I too am forced to work on both. Windows x64 systems are kickass with video, even smoother! Love the right mouse button options that I always miss with Mac software.

  • Buy a new mouse you dick

  • its not even worth it.. even with a "mighty mouse" there still arent enough options to choose from with a mac. thats because they make everything "easy"-except its NOT easy to be creative. thats because its all based on a guided one-step sort of thing.

thats such a huge boundary in the media industry. creativity is the key. I'm not saying its a bad program [final cut], I'm just saying its not the best like everyone claims.

  • I agree with you? There are more pages than there should be with people arguing the Mac PC debate.

It's what ever works for you personally. I like working on a mac haven't edited on a PC since 99.

  • So Iphone crops the movies it plays?

  • You can double-tap the screen and it'll zoom out again.

  • & that'll than make it good for watching a movie?

  • I didn't experience it. It was better the other way.

  • I hate to break it to you and all the other self-satisfied, half-wit masturbators here, but he's not talking about interviews on YouTube, he's talking about feature films, do you not get that at all? But you can still all go and reward yourselves with the usual self-congratulatory wank in solitude.

I wonder how much time you spend surreptitiously flashing your new little iPhones to everyone. Dick replacement?

  • Ya think?

    : )

  • ur mad !

  • your a fucking idiot

  • Now someone needs to film this video on their iphone.

And so on and so on.

  • I think this is just about the most perfect video response I've ever seen! Perfect, I tell you!!

  • seriously he's probably soooooooo angry that you did that lol u nailed him by doin that nice w0rk br0

  • I don't think he's angry at all. he's talking about films being shown on telephones, not tv interviews from youtube.

  • Yeah, that tiny ass screen and audio that sounds like a broke ass dashboard speaker in a '72 Chevette really NAILED HIS ASS! Woo. U R so teh win!

    Irony: It's not for everybody.

If you don't give a shit about music, art, film or anything other than showing the gadget you can play it on (badly) to some girlie looking for the "woo", fine. But, um.. get real, ya know? : )

  • I think some of you are missing the point Lynch is making. He's also pretty clearly not talking about standard Hollywood fare. I doubt he'd care about watching something like Superbad on an iPhone. But watching, for example, 2001 on a phone? No matter how clear the sound, how crisp the picture - you're lacking both the scope and atmosphere of a proper viewing.

  • I've always thought the same thing about watching many films on TV (either VHS, DVD, broadcast, whatever) the screen is too small to show you much detail, plus in a cinema, you are surrounded by the image & sound - so it's easier to be drawn fully into the experience, which means (if it's a good film!) you feel it more, to me. (& you feel used & abused if it's sh*te!)

  • Thanks dave!

  • I think you are missing the point of Superbad. It's a good film when u get it.

  • you gave him money, he won't care. cause deep down, we are all whores

  • I think the point is that he would though...

  • Doubtful, although a TV show, it's still film art --- so the bigger the better. Don't worry, I fully understand his point.

  • Twin Peaks isn't a film...

  • Actually there was a Twin Peaks film, Fire Walk with Me from 1992.

  • it's sound must be atmospheric if it is to live up to what already exists but I think those are small obstacles that can be met with headphones.

  • Now put that thing at a comfortable distance from your eyes but big enough to cover most your field of vision and WEAR SOME BOSS HEAD PHONES IF YOU WANT TO HEAR EVERYTHING-no... EVERY LITTLE... I mean the tiniest sounds and how they echo reverberate or shatter the deepest or most sharpest sounds. You think I'm joking try it yourself and between me and the rest of you, as long as you see all the details your getting what you think your getting if your someone who loves the Iphone.

  • If you are going to experience a film for the first time you must consider scale since that accounts for much of the impact a film must have on a viewer. For expressionism an artist improvises with his allegory, symbols or metaphors to connect the theme; at times that means shrinking subjects in frames for any subtlety significance etc. that would have been obvious hadn't the film been on a miniscreen.

  • lol, irony.

  • possibly the most poignant and honest video I've seen on youtube to date.

  • do you mean the david lynch bit, or this guy's idea of showing it here via his "f***ing phone"?

  • i meant the guy's idea

  • fair enough

& thanks for replying - after five months I'd given up hope ;~)

  • You've got a PC! Download a film and watch it! Get real!

  • This was way better than the original youtube clip!

  • If you haven't seen or heard video on an iPhone, you can't presume you can make a judgment. I have, and the video quality is quite strong.

Eraserhead is black and white. I wonder how long it's going to take before copies start appearing on users' iPhones and Archos players? (Personally, I'm a big screen guy.)

  • someone with an iphone, watch this clip and record yourself doing it. Man that'd be zany
