  • I did the Cold Turkey thing starting... I think this is week 3? Lost track of time because I stopped caring.

Then again, I was giving up Rum, hence the reintroduction to Scotch which I've missed.

  • Informative and entertaining. This dude does excellent whisky reviews.

  • wise words

  • Just recently found your videos...already I find that you're affording me 'patience" in my approach to drinking this other 'nectar of the Gods' . Thanks.

  • Ralfy you are my new hero. I enjoy whisky for a year or two now and you are truly helping me to step up to the next level of nosing and tasting. I enjoy every bit of you talking truly passionate about the subject. Subscribed!

  • Hi ralfy... I really enjoy your stuff and being a brand new enthuthiast I find it very helpful... One of the things I find very hard to tackle though is the difference between "peatiness" and "smokiness"... and do you have a good trick to identify different subtle smells as opposed to the general smell of the whisky?

  • @falloutshit

A good trick is ... patience, practice and perseverence. Be aware we all have a certain amount of sensory disfunction so it is always better to enjoy what you experience rather than fret over what you feel you are supposed to experience.

  • ralfy, would you consider possibly doing a series on older whiskies for those of us on a (semi) budget? I'm 27 and have a girlfriend, I can only justify buying maybe one bottle of whisky over $100 USD a year. You do a great job covering plenty of younger whiskies more in my price range, but the price tags on older malts can be a little overwhelming (at least in the US), especially for Islays.

Oldest I've had was Macallan 18, which was totally uninspiring.

  • @JoeDawg15

some older whisky reviews coming along soon, and I will advise on value !

For now, look out for Old Pulteney 17yo and Glenfarclas 21yo.

  • No one else here licks leather armchairs? Nobody? Huh.

  • Can you enjoy a cigar as you enjoy your favorite whisky simultaneously? Or is that considered illegal to your palate?

  • @TheChrisYo

that would not be illegal on my palate, however I enjoy a cigar with a coffee followed by a whisky ! ... just personal preference.

  • Your mouth has 5 taste senses Ralfy, the found another since you have been at school ;-)

  • very good advice, I really liked the first part. you should not drink 7 nights a week far too much.

  • re; awareness great solid sound advice, best i have heard.

re; old whisky, how exciting you make is seem, leather arm chairs indeed!

  • I drink about 3 glasses a week but still... I couldn't stop to have a good single malt on a friday night after a hard day of work.
