I always explain results as an equalateral triangle. One part workouts, One part Sleep, and One part nutrition, all equally important.
I was able to gain 24lbs in about 3-3 1/2 months while keeping my body fat under control and not gaining too much BF. I shot for 1-3 lbs a week and focused equally on all three. But on the weeks I lacked in any of the three I gained no weight.
@RubenKellyIII i would suggest taking two scoops of protein if your nutrition isn't all that great but if it is all you need is one. scott is in far superior shape to sean , but sean knows what he is talking about , if i was him being in the video's with scott i would drop some bodyfat : )
@Ipoonthosenoobs yea, and everyone cares about yours. why do you even care about my comment then? how do you even know how I look? I workout five days a week, I bet I'm in much better shape than you. I hate people like you who has nothing to do but leave idiotic comments on youtube. get a life seriously.
@yahookendogg sean's really not that pudgy, he has a lot of muscle, but it isn't as lean as scott's, and how do you know you look better than that other guy you hypocritical piece of shit.
@travdoeshave88 you sound like a very typical youtuber, an 8 yr. old fat kid that has nothing better to do but write shit to other people so that you feel a little better about yourself. grow up and write a decent comment other than calling names, and why do you even back up the other guy, are you his lover or something? please mind your own business and go drink your mom's milk, you sound so immature.
Really? Wow, where should i start? All i did with name calling was call you a hypocritical piece of shit, which now I see was pretty much right. You're the one who just resorted to ridiculous name calling and insults. "please mind your own business and go drink your mom's milk, you sound so immature." You're trolling me right? you cant seriously be that dumb.
Hey scott according to question 4 . My doctor have said that your body uses protein the best if you eat some quick carbs after workout to get your blood sugar up and then after 30 mins drink your shake . is this true ?
I had a hernia repair surgery about 2 months ago and have been losing a lot of weight since. My doctor said I should not do heavy weight lifting like in this video and among your other videos etc. Can you please help me or give me your point of view on this. Thanks a lot. Love all your advice and tips.
@Von072 yeah if you just had surgery and you are trying to get back into lifting you should only lift light so you don't re injure yourself. I also have free fitness videos that will help you stay motivated, lose weight and get in shape! , so if you like them please sub and have a good one :)

I didn't know this a few years ago.. and started losing muscle and strength so fast on a high protein diet (after 3months).. And the trainers at the gym just said eat MORE protein.
@4806577005 I don't think creatine stunts growth but at 15-20 you don't need to be worried about creitne all you need to do is eat right and take protein and you will be fine. If you have any questions you should post them on my channel or videos cuz I answer subscriber questions in my fitness advice videos. I also have free fitness videos that will help you stay motivated, lose weight and get in shape! , so if you like them please sub and have a good one :)
Age, why don't you consider more in yolur questions, answers related to age? Is it because you are young, and you don't give a shit about old people? Lack of rest, will definately send you to a cardio doctor when you get old. Your heart needs the rest as well as the muscles you ripped and tore.
@LFWOL Even still would you recommend that someone works out multiple days in a row only getting 3 hours of sleep each time? I would say 6-9 hours seems to be the range for most people I meet. Cognitive functions are highly applicable when it comes to lifting heavy weights over your head. Just to function without intense training I know I can get by with 3 hours of sleep. I personally don't think you can find a study that would show results that show the same reaction and recovery from 3 hours.
@davecsaszarable I just poseted some articles to my page. The point behind adding .9-1.7 grams per lbs of bodyweight is so that we optimize protein intake without sacrificing using that protein for energy especially if your on a low fat or low carb diet. We talk about carb timing at points and will more in the future. The science goes both ways in this arguement. Some people suggest that the lower end promotes longevity. We give advice assuming everyone is training intensely.
@davecsaszarable Genetics is always a factor in these things. Also we give advice to those training to build muscle and burn fat. The more lean muscle you have on you the more calories you burn on a daily basis. I'l provide you what I can for arguements fact wise. You may also look into this yourself. Check out my facebook page for the articles I couldn't post to here.
Yo Scotty, love the vids, especially the Q & A with Sean. I'm pretty sure it's been asked before but I can't go searching all the comments for the answer. Are you going to do an MTV Challenge afterall? My girl and I were super pumped when we thought you were going to be on Fresh Meat. But it didnt happen. Those challenges are the only thing we watch on MTV and True Life if they have interesting stories. We'll be looking out for ya if you decide to do one.
@kyum1971 Yeah your correct. Scott himself said he was an ectomorph. Sean i think would be a Mesomorph in his body type. I think i'd rather look like scott myself rather then sean. And it helps that i am an ectomorph. Im going go pump the iron now. cya
PROTEIN & MAINTAINING LEAN WEIGHT (coming from a professional triathlete):
u can't take ur body weight alone & subtract ur body fat % (BF%) & have ur lean muscle mass. u must first subtract 30-40% of ur body weight as BONE mass; then that number minus ur BF%, that'll give u ur LEAN MUSCLE MASS (a close approx.); 0.75g of protein per lb of muscle for maintaining
i can vouch for the scotthermanfitness meal plan...it gave me a ton of good insight and information, one thing i warn people who use it who want to gain weight and build muscle is to make sure u throw some fats in there, i created a super clean meal plan that was 4,000 calories and i actually lost weight from 175 to 170, for those looking to maintain or lose weight u can find all the answers ur looking for in those meal plans
Sean looks really good, the first 3 Q&A's he did it looked like he was all mass, i don't know if its the shirt and the nice haircut but he looks more cut in this video. You both are inspirations, keep doing what you do. And i workout all the time with your shirt scott and I tell all my friends about your youtube video.
I like these Q & A vids, I also like the fact that you 2 don't always agree with each other 100%. It's good to hear a mix. I notice many of the questions relate to diet. Maybe more people should subscribe to Scott's Meal Plan if they are having that many problems. Just a thought, BTW. I saw Scott's pic in this month's Men's Health Mag. The pic of him doing a squat. )
@TheCharlieohagan eat more the way to do it seems to be around 5-8 meals a day like one meal every 2 hours of course u dont stuff urself but u do eat a good amount at first u probably wont be hungry but soon u will get usto it now about the supplements i'd say they are really useful no matter how well u eat so it really depends on if u can afford to spend idk maybe 40 bucks a month for some good extra gains
@xXJeReMiAhXx99 yaa what would u suggest supplement wise cause my coach gave me this stuff called serious mass but idk anyone who had experience with it besides him and hes like 45 and im 15 so i wanna know what other people have had and what works
@TheCharlieohagan yeah that weight gainer by optimum right? it's defently good stuff just taking that after a workout would be very good also taking a good multi vitamin helps alot it wont make u super human or anything but overall it helps build muscle absorb nutrients and gives u a little more energy and stuff animal pak or optimum Opti-Men are some good multi's, btw i'd only take 1.5 scoops of the serious mass sence ur not a adult and that way it will last a little longer
Hi scott love the video's, just have a question for ya, I use to be 13 stone 2 years ao but lost 3 stone due to being sick, I lost most of my muscle. Im back in the gym 4 weeks and now and can see it coming back already. My QUESTION IS i workout 5 days a week and do Biceps and back day 1, Triceps and chest day 2, shoulders and legs day 3, is there anything else i should be working on???
@ScottHermanFitness Form is 100% the single most important thing for progressive long term weight training in terms of gym workout since its not just about gains but the serious risk of injury. Also, sometimes the best people to ask are definitely not the long term gym members since many have very bad habits for the riskiest exercises. Well-built long term trainers are the best people to ask since they have to work with so many different body types as well as keep themselves in top shape.
scott im 17 yrs old and ive started going to the gym regularly and im to start taking a mass gaining supplement this week then ill be buying whey protein. im 10 stone and aiming to get to 12 and i was wondering what you think i should do? and as a beginner should i start taking creatine right now or wait a while?
@bangerr04 I know you ain't asking me, but I'd personally use it straight away, creatine monohydrate is pretty cheap and it does help, not to the extreme extent some people would claim tho, you should check out Lee Haywards video on it he recently done, hope that helps :)
@bangerr04 be careful with creatine its good for awhile but it puts on water weight alot your honestly better off eating fish like tilapia which has natural creatine in it your better off just using the whey protein and a carb diet creatine is fine for awhile but it has some nasty side effects if used all the time i put on about 20 pounds in 2 weeks and it eventually became water weight and was a pain to burn off
I always explain results as an equalateral triangle.

PROTEIN & MAINTAINING LEAN WEIGHT (coming from a professional triathlete):
u can't take ur body weight alone & subtract ur body fat % (BF%) & have ur lean muscle mass. u must first subtract 30-40% of ur body weight as BONE mass; then that number minus ur BF%, that'll give u ur LEAN MUSCLE MASS (a close approx.); 0.75g of protein per lb of muscle for maintaining
for me:
30% bone of 155 lbs = 46.5
155 - 46.5 = 108.5
6.9% BF of 108.5 = 7.5
108.5 - 7.5 = 101
101 x .75g = 75.75g of PROTEIN/day

@TheCharlieohagan eat more AND if you want, take whey protien
baseballreg123 1 year ago
@TheCharlieohagan eat more the way to do it seems to be around 5-8 meals a day like one meal every 2 hours of course u dont stuff urself but u do eat a good amount at first u probably wont be hungry but soon u will get usto it now about the supplements i'd say they are really useful no matter how well u eat so it really depends on if u can afford to spend idk maybe 40 bucks a month for some good extra gains
xXJeReMiAhXx99 1 year ago
@xXJeReMiAhXx99 yaa what would u suggest supplement wise cause my coach gave me this stuff called serious mass but idk anyone who had experience with it besides him and hes like 45 and im 15 so i wanna know what other people have had and what works
TheCharlieohagan 1 year ago

Well-built long term trainers are the best people to ask since they have to work with so many different body types as well as keep themselves in top shape.

scott im 17 yrs old and ive started going to the gym regularly and im to start taking a mass gaining supplement this week then ill be buying whey protein. im 10 stone and aiming to get to 12 and i was wondering what you think i should do? and as a beginner should i start taking creatine right now or wait a while?
bangerr04 1 year ago
@bangerr04 I'm not scott but I recommend using creatine ethyl ester, It's safer and just as effective
GrappyFlappy 1 year ago
@bangerr04 I know you ain't asking me, but I'd personally use it straight away, creatine monohydrate is pretty cheap and it does help, not to the extreme extent some people would claim tho, you should check out Lee Haywards video on it he recently done, hope that helps :)
IrishRhavin 1 year ago
@bangerr04 be careful with creatine its good for awhile but it puts on water weight alot your honestly better off eating fish like tilapia which has natural creatine in it your better off just using the whey protein and a carb diet creatine is fine for awhile but it has some nasty side effects if used all the time i put on about 20 pounds in 2 weeks and it eventually became water weight and was a pain to burn off
