Our parish is trying this for the Christmas season as well, I unfortunately find the new and changing harmonies to be more of a headache along with new text. The first refrain remains warm in our hearts and minds. Thank you so much for the delivery of the text and pronunciation of the lyrics. Merry Christmas and God Bless You!
Thanks. Now if I can just convince the choir! I love this piece, but I have to admit the chordal structures on pages 6 and 7 leave me cold. The rest is beautiful. I would like to have an octavo with regular harmonies. Before you redid the words to comply with Liturgy I played this in 2008. I penciled in all my favorite jazz chords. Much easier to play with a lilt and not so ploddy.
@wilemutt Hi, there! Just so you know, I'm not the actual composer of this piece. I just recorded it for my choir/cantors to listen to. I agree with you that the final refrain gets a little "out there" with the chord progression unnecessarily. I decided to do more of a straight accompaniment of the refrain. Thanks for your comment!
