  • I love Neil.

  • fucking hell, this is a great version. A masters performance!

  • this is my idol..... I saw him 2 years ago in monreal.... and it was my best show.... I have to say I loved him more that the rolling stone's show... what a great artist... and the voice... and I want to say he figures in the best guitarists in the world... ...

  • This doze rock.

  • THE HORSE!!!! THE HORSE IS THE POWER!!!

  • He slapped that guitar and tickled her. She giggled and asked for more.

  • Amazing...A Perfect Moment in Time.

  • love neil n the horse

  • THE MASTER ROCKS!! LONG MAY U RUN, NEIL!!

  • Neil is the Deal !

  • GD --- Rock n Roll --- at its Best!!!

  • Love this song

  • I saw this tour in Oslo, Norway. They played this song twice!! Early and late in the show. This was before it had been released on CD, and it was still a standout song that night. You gotta love Neil :)

  • Good as it gets.

  • Really cool sound quality! is this on DVD or where can I see more of this show?

  • where is crazy horse?

  • <33

  • wow fantastic !!!!

  • I felt asleep in front of the tv and woke up in the middle of the night when there was a band playing a song and I didn't know neither one. I loved it although I didn't know who that band and the singer was. Credits said it was Neil at Rock am Ring. Weird as I own a few of his albums but never had seen his face before.

  • Custer had it coming! lol

  • this is proof that it is not necessary to be a virtuoso musician and faster to convey intense emotion ... just feel it ... thanks neil

  • Not not even Dylan

  • holy guitar solos!

  • neil, in 1988 i was born into your musical world, and i will never leave.

  • no one other than Crazy Horse could make Neil Young solo like this. Crazy Horse gives off some special vibes to Neil, and Neil destroys the place with his guitar. I dunno what you think but it's fucking amazing everytime they get together.

  • @JonB83 you put it really well- "magic" is an overused word, but that's what this is...it's a kind of love affair. This soloing is wonderful.

  • 65 years of Young, happy birthday Neil thanks for decades of magic.

    long may you rock.

  • @rory5877

    Yeah, forever Young!

  • @rory5877 I second that!

  • @rory5877 amen.

  • wow! this made my day.

  • again and again this is stunning- much better than the studio version and truly on of the moments in Rockn Roll. Send me back to 2001! long live the horse!

  • Hey !

Got this video on my playlist sometime ago and I just realized that I was in Montreux in 2001, I saw this very show.

The only time I saw Neil Young live, it was greaaat and good and just perfect.

    So thanx for posting it

  • we love you dear neil

  • This is the band I miss - the good ol' Horse.

Guitar tech Larry on piano! LOL! :D

  • @kingalow1 gotta love OLE LARRY !!!!

  • Respond to this video?

How can word's describe this Magic,

Anyone who can't loose themselves in this Gem need help.

  • Muiito da hora esse vídeeoo..

    Despensa comentáriios..*

  • dispensa comentários!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Holy shit Neil's voice (like Ronnie James Dio of Sabbath, Dio, and Rainbow) has barely changed since the early days in the 60s.

  • ES UNA PUTA PASADA

  • Neil Young's guitar stops all else, whereever I am. I'm then one with this music. I melt. It happened when I first heard the Decade album in 1981 up to this moment. This song is new to me [rare] and I have to find it to buy on MP3. I hope it's possible.

  • @bluesmaster8 its on "are you passionate?"

Well, honestly, the Rest of the Album is crap, more or less...

But I had to buy it cause of this Song!! ;D

  • @JethroWolff Ditto

  • Neil is still rockin' in the free world....and out plays half the shit on the radio these days...

  • Ralph Molina = Coolness!!

  • This is Dyin and goin to Heaven,Thanks Neil.

  • WHAT a song, WHAT a team! Great tune from guys who mean it.

gotta love seeing the way they love it. Thanks for uploading from Holland.

  • The studio version is on the Are You Passionate record.

  • Great the way he leans into Native American music .

  • Neil Young his one of the best when it comes to live music ever to grace the stage

  • on which album is the studio version?

  • this is mind blowing. simply love it ...

  • good shreddin'

  • There might be guitarists with more technical chops, but few play with as much passion or creativity as Neil. Love live the godfather of grunge!

  • NEIL YOU ROCK BIGTIME...Whatever war one fiights there's no better feelin like"GOING HOME".....sounds like she almost made it...war sucks, but neil rocks....is truely the best of our times...

  • Top 6 guitarists:

    1: Harrison

    2: Clapton

    3: Hendrix

    4: Neil

    5: Richards

    6: Iommi

  • @LovinSporkful you forgot to say that's in your opinion...

I don't think Steve Ray Vaughan is worse than Keith Richards, never...

But still, that's in my opinion.

  • @LovinSporkful Trey Anastasio should be on this list.

  • @zkafel These are all classic rock and old metal, not modern, though I agree he is quite talented

  • @LovinSporkful May I rephrase, The top 6 classic rock/classic metal guitarist.

  • The message in the song is very strong. Custer didn't stand a chance. But the Native people suffered for this for the rest of the Century. "When the Soldiers won a battle it was a victory, When the Indians won it was considered a massacre. No justice in protecting your own land.

  • @groovemon

You just hit the nail right on the head there, and the thing is, the native people are Still being oppressed in that supposed 'Great land of the free !!, everyone thinks it's step forward because a black man was elected president! I would have been more impressed had been an Native Indian! and how come you never see any native Indians in the house of representatives, in fact, you don't see any in any political position.

  • loved the "passionate" studio version, which instantly took place afront my all time favourites. Adore this live epic. Don´t know if I enjoy more the electricity running along my spine or the tears flooding my eyes witnessing that Neil & Poncho's guitar intercourse is as intense as ever. Long live Crazy Horse!!!!

thank's looongtrip appreciating and loving it from Lima, Peru.

  • where is the neil young of this generation huh?

  • @zemzamiimad He IS UNIQUE!!

  • This is the first time this will be written, so I take credit. If you have been to a live Neil and Crazy Horse concert, then you know the following: It is as if your head is pierced into Neil's chest, and you hear his heart beating and his soul screaming into yours. That, my friend, is what a Neil and Crazy Horse concert is like!!!!!!!!!

  • @Dobiegillis1965 ur words are wise

  • thats a nice sound!!!!!

  • Fuckin Marshals Rock Neil . Thanks for keepin the freightrain Rockin for all these years. You may have left a wake but you've kept me awake to some really inaresting shit . Thanks Bro ' All the best Ridin the Rails with the kids . Enjoy

  • neil young is the shit.

  • A master, who remained a master for over 40 years. No one equals him in endurance and creativity.

  • not even bob dylan?

  • am 55 yrs old, and i grew up with neil young, john fogerty, bob dylan, and it's great that these rockers are still kicking ass. compared to the shit that out there today, a'll keep on listing, old stuff, and new stuff. these guys are great.

  • Sorry to hear of your loss. May the the Great Spirit bless you and your relations.

  • thank you so much. she is a little angel in my heart now. she was only 14 and so fantastic little girl. she was bullied and depressed... think twice people what you do to each other!! my heart is always on underdog side! lots of love!

  • This guy has almost three times my age and still has that energy on the stage and in his voice.

  • Simply amazing - A powerful song sung by an amazing songwriter I don't think there is anyone to fill Neil's boots!

  • Hauntingly beautiful, what I wouldn't give to have seen that concert!!!! Go Neil!!!

  • fucking epic

  • where can i find this song on mp3?? anybody have a link???

  • Is this entire concet avalible on dvd?

  • I attended the show - the whole concert was filmed with at least 4-5 professional TV cameras (Swiss TV DRS). So there must be a video of the whole show somewhere in someone's archives... . Probably only Neil knows who is the kepper of the keys... .

  • v.good!

  • wow, I have always said Neil is full of surprises, cool guy, cool themes, proud to be a great fan of his

  • This is the Most Mind blowing Performance on Youtube or any other Damm Tube,It is fucking Brilliant beyond Words.

  • Yes, I agree with you in your opinion, but there are other mind blowoing songs of Neil and of course this is one of the awesome rock songs i've heard

  • great post. The Horse in fine form and an awesome tune not done very often live.

  • easy to play hard to create sound try

  • great song, great man

  • Holy Jesus Child! amazing! you tube was created for this!

  • 37 shows and counting (including csny). Its my interpertation that the middle verse is about signing with geffin records

  • You been to young 37 times?

  • The battle drums were pounding,Neils music fukin words fail me.

  • OHHH..... this is extraordinary song of Neil imagination creation .... I never seen such exceptional performance ..... actually Neil deserve to be the king of kings of rock and roll music in this amazing song ... i can't describe... i love you Neil

  • A really genius and freedom leader..(fighter)..

"TV" and other media have been ignoring Neil Young

and others who have abilities to lead and to teach new generation

about true values and true way of life...

  • This is addictive,Neil what the hell have you put into this Magic? It is fckn brilliant and I aint no Kid either.

  • Neil is God. My kid's American name will be Neil and Korean name Young.

  • Great post...This is fucking epic! 87,950 views...50 of these must be mine =) This live version has great energy than (oddly yet delightfully) sandwiched in on 2002's "Are you Passionate". That signature tone...it is so...big and outdoorsy. The last verse gives me chills..."Battle drums were pounding,

All around her car, She saw her clothes were turning into sky and stars" - Dig Neil's Geronimo shirt!

  • been lucky to see this legend twice

    words fail me

    stay gold neil young ;-)

  • 3 times I have blessed to see this Legend live,God I thank you sincerly.

  • btw, it you need to know any Neil Young set list from any year and any gig go to Sugar Mountain Neil Young Set List. Its all there.

  • Fuckin epic, its put together the way music should be its just tragic that this is limping towards 100.000 hits and that talentless little dirtbag avril lavigne has over 120 million,no justice.

  • Cos that`s what has become of the music industry, talentless morons being listened to by cretins.

  • you must not appreciate music icons

  • Comment removed

  • @smeartest24 yeah but sse it from another side as an unexploited diamond or something. maybe it takes taste and stuff too like this =)

  • Best of the best....Neil Young sings and plays with his whole heart. What a great song!

  • Fuck me, Horse, didn't you fucking nail this one. Don't any of you EVER die!

  • what album is this off as the man himself says,,,,,,,i appreciate it

  • "Are You Passionate" released 2002, however he started to perform it at live concerts before the release of the song on and album around 2001. Maybe the first performance at a concert was in England at the Sheffield Arena on the Crazy Horse Euro Tour 2001 (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) I love the live version of this, it seems just a bit more dynamic that the LP version.

  • I went to his concert 5-6 years ago in norway, not a fan. After 5 minutes, i am his boggest fan ever! JEES! He played going home first in rock, then later in his show like a ballad, i think i kinda cried both times.. i know i wasnt ths only one.. Jees, rock on! ;)

  • I was there!!!!

  • Me too! If I remember correctly..... ;)

  • and you cannot remember if you were there or not? Neil Young, Black Crowes... I can forget that ;)

  • la mejor versión, que pena no haber estado allí. Neil y Crazy Horse , fuerza y sentimiento, te sacan la respiración, the best forever.

  • this is brilliant, how many times can this genius blow our fucking minds,

  • you've covered me man!

  • As soon as you fall off the horse, you've just gotta get back on it, caus it just feels so good. One of their best songs, apart from CYM of course. Thanks looongtrip for uploading.

  • bookkeeper57,

    Well stated!

Seems to me, Neil has always shown a strong affinity, or kinship toward the native American's, as well as other parts of the world: "Cortez the Killer," is a good example of that.

Then there are songs like "Broken Arrow, "Pocohontas," and "Mother Earth," that seem to be apart of his mindset, or phiosophy about those who came first, and how the respect they gave to the, "Land," was pushed aside by what some might call, "Progress."

  • American Indian rock group with a distinctly Indian sound: just listen to the theme of this thing. Great live performance, featuring Neil's high pitched lead guitar.

  • Unbelievable version of a unbelievable song. Neil is the man. I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice in the last six months. An experience to last a lifetime, and my 11 year old son got to see Neil for his first concert ever. Awesome

  • I just watched some porn, wasn't bad stuff at all... BUT this does FAR more for me.

  • I first heard this song in Brescia during the same turnèe...great performance. I think this version is better than the studio version...

  • way better...

  • Blows me away too, looongtrip, it's a masterpiece. Neil Young's forlorn vocals and the sound of the guitar elicit goosebumps each time I listen to this song. Thanks, for sharing looongtrip. ;)

  • You're welcome! Forlorn vocals, what a great description:)

  • Thanks for this rare gem. I love these.

  • NEIL IS THE DEAL !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song. You can't compare neil young to anyone, he is one of the most unique artist out there.

  • AWESOME :-))))))

Saw Neil performing that song with CH in Munich 2001!

This concert was one of his greatest gigs in Germany anyway!

Hey Neil come back soon with CH !!!!!!

  • you got the sun the moon and neil young

  • magnifique!!!

  • Neil Young (American Indian) with American Indian rock band. Great live performance.

  • Uh, Neil Young is Canadian and his back up band is not Native.

  • You think the Indians stopped at the Minnesota border? They roamed Canada too. Neil Young of Indian heritage. Just as he proclaims on Rust Never Sleeps...Marlan Brando, Pocahantas & me. He has said so in interviews also.

  • Somehow you're are getting him mixed up with Jim Morrison. He's the one who's all mysterious "I got native ghosts in me" in interviews guy. Show me to an interview where's he's said this?

  • 70's Rolling Stone. I think his Dad is Irish, The Indian on his mothers/grandmothers side. I remember clearly reading this in study hall high school around the time Rust Never Sleeps was released 1978 or 1979. Jim Morrison said he was possessed by an Indian spirit while his family was driving by an Indian laying on the highway after a car accident.

  • Jim Morrison was just possessed: period. If you look at Neil, you can see how Indian he looks, and he claimed to be.

  • Jim Morrison gave me the creeps like an un-caught serial killer or something. I liked some of the Doors music but Jim....

  • looongtrip, you're damn right! thanxxx :-)))

  • you are 20, you're from france, you don't know anything about music... you're just a young boy. you have to learn... good luck

  • que pasada, volver por españa please.

  • At last. After Bush'. America is coming home. Welcom back in the Free world!

  • been following our neil for more years than i can remember.still the best truthful rocker around.happy bithday neil keep rockin!

  • GOD BLESS NEIL YOUNG.

  • Eff! Awesome. Can't stop listening now.

  • Neil and the Horse tore shit up on this song! What a performance. Check out Like a Hurricane from The Phoenix festival in 1996. Amazing.

  • hard to get blood from a stone, but I'll give it a try... Classic Neilster...

  • dude, if you know who larry craig is it comes as no surprise...
