this is my idol..... I saw him 2 years ago in monreal.... and it was my best show.... I have to say I loved him more that the rolling stone's show... what a great artist... and the voice... and I want to say he figures in the best guitarists in the world... ...
I saw this tour in Oslo, Norway. They played this song twice!! Early and late in the show. This was before it had been released on CD, and it was still a standout song that night. You gotta love Neil :)
I felt asleep in front of the tv and woke up in the middle of the night when there was a band playing a song and I didn't know neither one. I loved it although I didn't know who that band and the singer was. Credits said it was Neil at Rock am Ring. Weird as I own a few of his albums but never had seen his face before.
no one other than Crazy Horse could make Neil Young solo like this. Crazy Horse gives off some special vibes to Neil, and Neil destroys the place with his guitar. I dunno what you think but it's fucking amazing everytime they get together.
again and again this is stunning- much better than the studio version and truly on of the moments in Rockn Roll. Send me back to 2001! long live the horse!

The message in the song is very strong. Custer didn't stand a chance. But the Native people suffered for this for the rest of the Century. "When the Soldiers won a battle it was a victory, When the Indians won it was considered a massacre. No justice in protecting your own land.
You just hit the nail right on the head there, and the thing is, the native people are Still being oppressed in that supposed 'Great land of the free !!, everyone thinks it's step forward because a black man was elected president! I would have been more impressed had been an Native Indian! and how come you never see any native Indians in the house of representatives, in fact, you don't see any in any political position.
loved the "passionate" studio version, which instantly took place afront my all time favourites. Adore this live epic. Don´t know if I enjoy more the electricity running along my spine or the tears flooding my eyes witnessing that Neil & Poncho's guitar intercourse is as intense as ever. Long live Crazy Horse!!!!
thank's looongtrip appreciating and loving it from Lima, Peru.
This is the first time this will be written, so I take credit. If you have been to a live Neil and Crazy Horse concert, then you know the following: It is as if your head is pierced into Neil's chest, and you hear his heart beating and his soul screaming into yours. That, my friend, is what a Neil and Crazy Horse concert is like!!!!!!!!!

thank you so much. she is a little angel in my heart now. she was only 14 and so fantastic little girl. she was bullied and depressed... think twice people what you do to each other!! my heart is always on underdog side! lots of love!
I attended the show - the whole concert was filmed with at least 4-5 professional TV cameras (Swiss TV DRS). So there must be a video of the whole show somewhere in someone's archives... . Probably only Neil knows who is the kepper of the keys... .
OHHH..... this is extraordinary song of Neil imagination creation .... I never seen such exceptional performance ..... actually Neil deserve to be the king of kings of rock and roll music in this amazing song ... i can't describe... i love you Neil
Great post...This is fucking epic! 87,950 views...50 of these must be mine =) This live version has great energy than (oddly yet delightfully) sandwiched in on 2002's "Are you Passionate". That signature tone...it is so...big and outdoorsy. The last verse gives me chills..."Battle drums were pounding,
All around her car, She saw her clothes were turning into sky and stars" - Dig Neil's Geronimo shirt!
Fuckin epic, its put together the way music should be its just tragic that this is limping towards 100.000 hits and that talentless little dirtbag avril lavigne has over 120 million,no justice.
"Are You Passionate" released 2002, however he started to perform it at live concerts before the release of the song on and album around 2001. Maybe the first performance at a concert was in England at the Sheffield Arena on the Crazy Horse Euro Tour 2001 (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) I love the live version of this, it seems just a bit more dynamic that the LP version.
I went to his concert 5-6 years ago in norway, not a fan. After 5 minutes, i am his boggest fan ever! JEES! He played going home first in rock, then later in his show like a ballad, i think i kinda cried both times.. i know i wasnt ths only one.. Jees, rock on! ;)
As soon as you fall off the horse, you've just gotta get back on it, caus it just feels so good. One of their best songs, apart from CYM of course. Thanks looongtrip for uploading.
Seems to me, Neil has always shown a strong affinity, or kinship toward the native American's, as well as other parts of the world: "Cortez the Killer," is a good example of that.
Then there are songs like "Broken Arrow, "Pocohontas," and "Mother Earth," that seem to be apart of his mindset, or phiosophy about those who came first, and how the respect they gave to the, "Land," was pushed aside by what some might call, "Progress."
American Indian rock group with a distinctly Indian sound: just listen to the theme of this thing. Great live performance, featuring Neil's high pitched lead guitar.
Unbelievable version of a unbelievable song. Neil is the man. I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice in the last six months. An experience to last a lifetime, and my 11 year old son got to see Neil for his first concert ever. Awesome
Blows me away too, looongtrip, it's a masterpiece. Neil Young's forlorn vocals and the sound of the guitar elicit goosebumps each time I listen to this song. Thanks, for sharing looongtrip. ;)
You think the Indians stopped at the Minnesota border? They roamed Canada too. Neil Young of Indian heritage. Just as he proclaims on Rust Never Sleeps...Marlan Brando, Pocahantas & me. He has said so in interviews also.
Somehow you're are getting him mixed up with Jim Morrison. He's the one who's all mysterious "I got native ghosts in me" in interviews guy. Show me to an interview where's he's said this?
70's Rolling Stone. I think his Dad is Irish, The Indian on his mothers/grandmothers side. I remember clearly reading this in study hall high school around the time Rust Never Sleeps was released 1978 or 1979. Jim Morrison said he was possessed by an Indian spirit while his family was driving by an Indian laying on the highway after a car accident.

Jim Morrison was just possessed: period. If you look at Neil, you can see how Indian he looks, and he claimed to be.

Neil and the Horse tore shit up on this song! What a performance. Check out Like a Hurricane from The Phoenix festival in 1996. Amazing.
