To "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw man argument" is to describe a position that superficially resembles an opponent's actual view but is easier to refute. It's like us debating on whether or not christians on youtube are jerks and then you saying islam is evil. You set up the islam argument to bring us away from the original point of these "bible thumpers". Thus creating something that I can't defend against. I would then have to start arguing about islam being evil.

Of course, I know I am part of the problem, as far as blame is concerned. I work on that every day. Trust me it's hard. But I see how far I have come but still have a very long way to go. But one thing I have learned is not to push my religious Ideologies on people and not to be racist. But alas sometimes I make foot in mouth statements such as "white christian" when confronted with ignorance and racism. I guess I get goated into the same ignorance as well.

Maybe so. But every race and religion has to do that within their respective groups. And you are pointing a lot of fingers at us without recognizing some of your own shortcomings. They are there.
And you should also acknowledge that there are just as many conservative that happen to be Christians and are not racists, as there are conservatives who are Christians who are racists. I live 9 months/yr of my life a Baptist-based southern university, and I can pretty much split the 2 right in half.

Nor should everyone be Christian. However, it cannot be denied, and, being "conservative" as many Christians are, politicians will never be able to exclude faith in their platforms. Their jobs are to give the majority of the people what they want, and, in this country, for a while longer at least, that majority happens to be Christian. Separation of church and state will NEVER truly exist b/c it's the people of the church that control the state.

Finally, my goal was to point out that all religions have their quirks but that some things cannot be tolerated. (Women covering up in their country is their business, here, it's ours. Honor killings overseas are their business, here, it's ours). Which is another reason church and state can never be fully separated. That was my point.

Yea I know there are religions that do stupid shit, even ones that exist today in theocracies throughout the world. But that's the whole point of keeping religion out of politics and law. But also keeping it free to practice whatever religion or belief system you want. If you think an atheist scientist can't do a better job at running political offices that is absurd. We have ethnics you know, shit that humans rely on instead of superstitious beliefs. It comes down to the person, not the faith.

Okay, and I agree with that. But unfortunately it's not that simple. Is it ideal? Absolutely. But unless there are some extremely dramatic changes in the coming decades, I think it'll be a cold day in hell before a non-religious man or woman is elected president. There a just too many Christians out there that need to be reassured that they live the correct life and that whoever is in charge agrees with that and, not only has no desire to change it, but wants to reinforce it.
