thanks for posting all this. I loved this album when I got it back in 2002, but it wasn't until I just found it again recently that I could appreciate the complexity and subtleties. I have been listening to the album 3 times over everyday for the past week. Chalk full of goose bump moments.
I know this is off topic for this video specifically, do you know how they did at the recent Big Day Out event? I read on a forum that they were getting booed or having bottles thrown at them, but I can't believe that. I would think that they would be given a little more respect because of their success in Australia
yeah they did get booed at BDO by some people b/c it was a festival; not everyone was there to see Silverchair, there were a lot of metal heads there for Rage Against The Machine who think Silverchair is "gay". Fuck them if they don't know greatness when they hear it. Losers!!
I always liked Silverchair ever since hearing "Israel's Son" but I kinda lost interest. I was at a CD shop and I saw Diorama taped together with Freak Show and Neon Ballroom for $15. Best purchase I ever made! You can definitely hear the changing emotions in each album; it culminated with Diorama, and I think it's been progressed (though not as much as I liked) with Young Modern. I'm hoping for that total perfection in an their work, but I honestly believe that it was acheived with Diorama.
I absolutely love this album from beginning to end, but this documentary somehow renewed and intensified my love and respect for this masterpiece. In my opinion, the greatest concept album ever made, I don't care what anyone says! This is coming from the same person who loved STP's Shangri-la-dee-da, Pearl Jam's Yield, or Soundgarden's Down on the Upside. This outclasses anything I've heard before. Thank you Silverchair for creating this.
I know what a concept album is, essentially your definition covers every album ever conceived. Concept albums usually follow some sort of story (take the new NIN record or The Mars Voltas debut) Sorry but I was unaware Diorama was a concept album
Fucking amazing band and this is their best album by far. If you've got mates who don't like silverchair they're fucking idiots, most of my mates are I can tell you that right now. Absolutely epic album, fucking monumental. Chuck that album on and let it take you away. All the classic albums you can think of, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, Beatles - The White Album...Put this album right fucking up there with them. Rant over
awesome video man,i luv silverchair.,best band since the BEATLES.Daniel's got much better albums on his mind,he will be a living legend sooner or later.

daniel johns is amazing
im a musician and i write my own music.
im finally starting to get noticed.
but the things daniel says in regular conversion are beautiful.
"I wanted to not have a backup plan."
"It eludes to a complexity that doesn't exist."
"I wanted to force myself to do it."
id just luv to sit and record wat he says.

Concept Album?
knailed 4 years ago
A concept album is when the songs on an album all have an similar overall theme. In this case, escapism from the problems one faces.

I was trying to drive at the point where the songs all have to do with being in a world within a world, which is how Daniel Johns described it.

So, so, so good for a documentary.
I just wish they had talked about The Greatest View. Just for a moment.
But still. Amazing.
