In terms of good hip-hop there's a lot of good old school stuff: RUn-DMC, KRS-ONE, Public Enemy, Paris, Stestsasonic, the Pharcyde. In terms of more current underground stuff I'd recommend Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, Common, Jurassic 5 as a start
