Probably the tightest band I have ever seen live. Not hard to see the Sonic Youth influence, but where SY went tangential, Unwound seemed directed, driven, and focused. The two are similar but decidedly different. "Gotta see it to believe it". Brilliance.
I wish everyone knew this band. There is no band I want to see reunite more than Unwound but chances seem slimmer and slimmer. My only hope to get some terminal disease and get the Make A Wish Foundation to help me with this. Brb...
seemed like yesterday, but a decade of sleeve tatts, AP covers, and hair straighteners has more or less consigned this music to this dustbin of history. unwound truly stood at the end of a long line of below the radar, expressionist rock bands that believed that having yr own sound was the only true liberating act and was an end unto itself. unwound possessed more integrity in their broken E strings than an armada of fuckin beardos or eyelinered douchebags with their delusions of "authenticity".
@cubistblues it's not dead man, and it resides in no dustbin I have ever heard of. Rather, it lives on in the hearts of those who actually give a shit about what they pour into their ears, as oppose to those that think the music defines the person, not the people defining the music.
@eatjakealive I'm not really sure how the effects really affect anything about the video. It's a rad, RARE live vid of an epic and influential band. Plus, the dude took the video himself, so he has the right to do whatever with it. If it ruins it for you then a: don't freaking watch it, and b: maybe you weren't as big of a fan of Unwound as you thought, and you have a hard time getting over things.
rememeber seeing these guys @ ucsd campus 16 years ago geez {in a side class room of all places} auh the che cafe good ol dayz! still rocking it though eh!
Unwound was visionary where Minus the Bear might, at best, be considered reactionary. Unwound broke new ground that others still haven't often touched to this day.

It's a Univox hi-flyer which is a Mosrite replica that was made in the early 70's.

I agree, Unwound was one of a kind. Not to take anything away from Minus the Bear, because I don't really see them as comparable.

Love this band. Like a more noise rock version of Refused.
