I'm not from America but I hear a lot of conflicting stories about healthcare in America. Do you have to get pre-approval for medical care? That sounds weird to me. We have private healthcare in Australia but there is sometimes a gap, where you have to pay what the private health insurance company doesn't pay. Often it's not very much. Does this happen much, I know it depends on the op or work done on you but what are some of the "excesses" you have had to pay?
But we in Australia have universal health care as well, Medicare. In America, (where I lived in the 90's) it's just outrageous how you get treated by the insurance companies. I called mine to make sure a test was covered and they said yes. So then when I came to claim they denied it. I called them and was told I was not behaving responsibly by not paying my bills! That's what the Americans are up against and that's just a minor thing! I feel really sorry for them.
Well I have pretty good coverage, I just dont get why people out there would work for an employer that doesent supply you with healthcare. It's like why would you go work for Burger King when you make crappy money and you dont get medical benifits and you can just go work for Pepsi or Costco and get medical benifits, and make better money. Everyone pays into a fund that finances police, fire, schools, etc. and they get it based on need: why is health care different? Do you need an insurance policy to send your kid to school or have an ambulance come if you call? It doesn't matter if you have insurance or not, as long as it's through a privately owned insurance co. they make the rules on what they pay and what they don't. It's not JUST about not having insurance, it's about you paying for insurance and your medical bills still not getting paid.

According to an article on wikipedia about "Healthcare", Afghanistan and Iraq have universal healthcare that is funded by the U.S. Very ironic. The federal government pays for the universal coverage for two other countries but not its own.

GuinnevereB, i have to agree with you. having lived, worked, paid taxes and experienced health care in alot of the EU, eastern europe and the states, the only differences are that the machines in the states are newer, US doctors run more tests to confirm what is already diagnosed and you pay more taxes comparatively if you have a lower income in the US.

I'm a nurse that sees this mess first hand. I'm mom to a handicapped child who gets NOTHING from insurance& travel across the country to get his care. And I'm a cancer patient with a re-occurance that has spread into my lung &liver and the docs still say it's not covered, I can't get it approved, get your affairs in order & find someone to raise your kids. This system is going to kill me faster than the cancer will. Then who will raise my kids?

I have trouble with Health New ENgland, my daughter visited Doctor two times in three years, these two visits service was denied by HNE. Because they stated they do not pay the bill reguesting from the third party, the first bill requesting from school nurse for vaccine shot, another request from collger for physical examination.

Im so glad you got some help and closure. My insurance pulled the same thing but I was homeless and had no income. I am now in deep credit card debt due to my doctors refusing to take my insurance and insisting that I pay by credit card first then having the insurance reimburse me. Ha like that will ever happen.

I'm not from America but I hear a lot of conflicting stories about healthcare in America. Do you have to get pre-approval for medical care? That sounds weird to me. We have private healthcare in Australia but there is sometimes a gap, where you have to pay what the private health insurance company doesn't pay. Often it's not very much. Does this happen much, I know it depends on the op or work done on you but what are some of the "excesses" you have had to pay?

But we in Australia have universal health care as well, Medicare. In America, (where I lived in the 90's) it's just outrageous how you get treated by the insurance companies. I called mine to make sure a test was covered and they said yes. So then when I came to claim they denied it. I called them and was told I was not behaving responsibly by not paying my bills! That's what the Americans are up against and that's just a minor thing! I feel really sorry for them.

I live in Canada and when I'm sick it costs me nothing to see a doctor.I have no insurance here,don't need it! Here in Canada you just pay for your prescription drugs. The system truely works! it is a one tier system, if you are rich or poor you get the same treatment. Without the health of a nation what kind of nation do you have! Everyone pays into a fund that finances police, fire, schools, etc. and they get it based on need: why is health care different? Do you need an insurance policy to send your kid to school or have an ambulance come if you call? According to an article on wikipedia about "Healthcare", Afghanistan and Iraq have universal healthcare that is funded by the U.S. Very ironic. With all my "ducks in a row" -- rehab following surgery agreed to in advance by my insurer -- I underwent the procedure. Two days in the hospital, while I still recovering, a representative from my insurance carrier came to my room to advise me that they had made a mistake by agreeing to provide me with rehab.

GuinnevereB, i have to agree with you. having lived, worked, paid taxes and experienced health care in alot of the EU, eastern europe and the states, the only differences are that the machines in the states are newer, US doctors run more tests to confirm what is already diagnosed and you pay more taxes comparatively if you have a lower income in the US.

There have been cases like this man where there was no relief and they commit suicide. Thank GOD for Michael Moore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a nurse that sees this mess first hand. I'm mom to a handicapped child who gets NOTHING from insurance& travel across the country to get his care. And I'm a cancer patient with a re-occurance that has spread into my lung &liver and the docs still say it's not covered, I can't get it approved, get your affairs in order & find someone to raise your kids. This system is going to kill me faster than the cancer will. Then who will raise my kids?

God bless you. Gretap's advice is sound: post your story, it could get results. The insurance companies are afraid of being exposed to public scrutiny and the wrath of the voters - and they should be. Together we can kick them out, but only if we stand together and tell the law makers we've had enough of this crap, and they'd BETTER change it if they want to remain in office.

I heard recently that health insurance companies take one third of every dollar spent on healthcare
It is obscene that health 'insurance' is linked to people's jobs. So, if you get really sick, and can't work, they fire you and of course, you lose health care coverage, and then zap, your whole life and that of your family's is ruined bacause the cost is beyond what anyone can pay.

Interesting and wonderful. This movie has already made a direrance. Insurancwe companies know that that the public eyes are now on them and with all the presidential campaigning going on, we will be treated better. I know thats only a start- but a good one.

I work in health care on the adminsitrative side and we need socialized medicine in this country! Michael Moore did a great job on exposing these insurance companies who are just plain crooks!

I have trouble with Health New ENgland, my daughter visited Doctor two times in three years, these two visits service was denied by HNE. Because they stated they do not pay the bill reguesting from the third party, the first bill requesting from school nurse for vaccine shot, another request from collger for physical examination.

I think Micheal has helped many people. At the end of the movie he gives twelve thousand to this guy who has the hate Micheal Moore web site. He is a champion of the people. We need more like him to expose things.

That was nice of him, but given that he kept it anon. and then used it in his movie (?), it seems like it was an expense for the movie? (because not giving anon. at first could have been a tip-off on movie content or something?)
Although he didn't have to do it as part of his movie or the promotion at all, so it is nice.

A woman died on an emergency room floor in the US a couple of weeks ago. Can you find any evidence of that sort of thing happening in Canada? The US has a higher mortality rate, a shorter average life expectancy, and a higher infant motality rate than other industralised countries do. You are either very ignorant, or you are you a lobbyist.

yeah, let's all have free govt health care like Canada, so when I go to an ER with my arm cut off, I have to wait 5 hrs! (which I will be passed out and DEAD by then!) Have you even seen how much higher the mortality rates are in countries with free health care as opposed to the US? Kind left that little fact out of your propaganda machine. Actually, SiCKO covered the 'extended wait for care with universal health care' myth. Mike asked residents of England, Canada, France, and yes, even Cuba, if they had to wait a long time to be treated, and they all looked shocked. They wait an average of an hour, IF their complaint is not urgent. If it is, their cases become a priority. Wise up, Ozark. Our government is lying to us.

how is it that aetna suddenly found out that their insured only owed $500 co-pay? how did they do the calculations after supposedly doing them for over a year and coming up with ~$66k each time? how did aetna get their math wrong over and over again for such a long period of time?

That is AMAZING! But it is completely sick that they wanted to turn your claim down. Almost every single one of these videos has made me tear up, its just not right what we have to deal with. The system is a SCAM! Michael Moore is a good man, I am so sick of seeing people attack him. He also saved a man's life by getting him a kidney on his old TV show. Good luck to you!!!!!

Im so glad you got some help and closure. My insurance pulled the same thing but I was homeless and had no income. I am now in deep credit card debt due to my doctors refusing to take my insurance and insisting that I pay by credit card first then having the insurance reimburse me. Ha like that will ever happen.

How could they claim a heart tumor was a pre-existing condition? Health care companies are just parasites feeding off the sick and helpless...

Typical Aetna. It's amazing that this is how they treat their customers who pay big bucks for Aetna medical insurance. I won't even tell you how Aetna treats their elderly Medicare Part D customers...!

Oh yeah! Well i bet Liberty Mutual is at least that bad and worse. They will kick you when your down and crap on your head and then call you a lying scum but legally. I was able to make it over there and they had inch thick bullet proof glass in their receiving area. i hope there is a hell so they have a place to go when their dead.

I have Aetna, and have had really bad experiences with them as well. I don't think it is isolated to just them, they are all greedy dump-sites for greedy shareholders... FOR THIS REASON, NONE OF MY INVESTMENTS INCLUDE PHARMACEUTICAL OR INSURANCE ORIENTED COMPANIES!
