  • Is the hand clapping chamber low on oxygen to see if focus and concentration starts to deminish?

  • Do US Marine Officers go through the same flight training with you guys?

  • @Johnthepyro1 I'm not positive but Im pretty sure they do

  • my uncle went through the same thing years ago. after i told him i want to be a naval fighter pilot he told me three things 1) keep running 3mi 2) keep my grades up in high school 3) be the best through flight school. can't wait!!! ;)

  • Can't wait to get there.... hopefully this time next year. OORAH

  • Where do you go after this if this is the first part of flight school? is this all fighter guys?

  • haha i like the patch at the end

  • I am a sophomore in high school right now. This is what I want to do. should I learn to swim well before I go?

  • biggest slap in the face is that I started needing glasses in 4th grade! haha Worse kicker, I lived in Pensacola till 8th grade and am now back in pensacola where I finished at UWF. Damn genetics! haha I woulda made the academy too with straight A's!

  • is it true that its harder to be a navy pilot if your not white?

  • Did anyone fail? Just wondering what the success rate is.

  • Whats the paddy-cake chamber thing for? I see that on all these videos

  • @sunsetxlungs777 its oxygen deprivation. it allows you to feel the effects of being at a certain altitude without oxygen. your reflexes become slower and eventually basic coordination becomes impossible.

  • @pqbaseball3 Ahhh that makes sense. Thank you.

  • thats what i plan to do with my life, haha

  • what does it take to become a pilot?

  • I dont care how I do it, but I KNOW I will be a Naval Aviator one day.

  • is this right outside of dc

  • Good video for new guys trying to get an idea of what's in store for them in API. Good times. I'm going to post up a link to the video on navygouge for future studs. You can get a lot of helpful info for AIP, Primary and Advanced on the navygouge website.

  • The way I remember it, Seville Quarter and Trader John's and McGuires were also very important parts of my training. But that was back in the early 90s. I'm sure things have gotten much better since then, right?

  • @aligerous: McGuires and Seville still are. Trader John's is gone. However the other two are integral parts of training.

  • Love the vid, I was starting to worry that flight school was all books, all technical learning, and no fun. Hope that's not the case for Primary also.

About to apply for the May selection boards wish me luck

  • High school freshmen currently. I'm reading an encyclopedia of aeronautical knowledge, then i'm going for a flying liscence, graduate highschool, join the Navy, do ROTC, and go for flight school to fly fighter jets off carriers =D

  • Are the N.A. trainees in tan Marines?

  • I was in API when Top Gun was released. They showed it round the clock in P'cola theaters. When Cougar turned in his wings the whole theater groaned and there was always someone to shout, "I'll take 'em!" I don't recall any small arms FAMFIRE at that time. Don't forget the double running of the O Course in the sand. Ooof!

  • Mainside doesn't look like it changed much since I went through in 1971.

Looks like the same pool & dilbert dunker, except we didn't have the helicopter version.

Too bad they closed Ellison and Saufley fields. They were great!

We flew T-34B (piston) and T-28B & C (radial engine).

  • Are these facilities available for commerical use?

  • o god, top gun music... *facepalms* lol

  • lol yea

  • cant wait...

  • I can't wait to see how being hypoxic feels. It's from 00:30 to 01:03

  • Its crazy. Its so hard to control your movements. I just did it yesterday and I got the Dunker tomorrow.

  • Cant wait... College Sophomore right now... joining a Naval Officer Program

  • @mwil07 can you become a pilot by going to just like normal training?

  • @mwil07 hey man that was over a year ago, how are things going with that?

  • Leaving for NROTC orientation at CU Boulder in one week, Private Pilot with around sixty hours. Hope to be there in five years. God Bless you guys.

  • Impossible. The cutoff age is like 30 I think and you need college.

  • seems like forever ago

  • Loving the patch - "I know enough to be dangerous" :P

    Great video.

  • i cant wait for flight school. im still only a sophmore in highschool :( but the wait is worth it.

  • not to brag, but i got accepted into this program with a 2.46 g.p.a. in mass comm and a 5/6/5- 42 score on the astb. I know I gotta do some studying on the side, but just cause u have a low gpa shouldnt discourage u from at least applying. Leave for OCS in two months!!!!

  • Says the future SWO

  • your my hero bro. hope to fly with you one day. if the astb is anything like the typical standardized tests(SAT ACT) then im good . but yea did you apply before you graduated college? or after ? because im 22 sophmore should be transfering in a year to SAC state. let me know man

  • Pretty interesting vid.Hope I can be a pilot someday

  • you have to get accepted into OCS through a recruiter, and then the flight program.. most times you apply at the same time and take the ASTB (Aviation selection Test Battery) 3.3 gpa and good scores on that are competitive, with good reccs, flight expierence is a plus but a lot of people have 0 hours in an airplane. very competitive though. a lot of canidiates are from naval academy

  • before you go to any training in the navy to become a pilot do you have to have prior experience in flying or do they teach you from the ground up? don't worry this is my sister's account

  • It's usually different for Academy guys and Air Force 2nd Lts, but most ROTC and OCS candidates start with IFS (Introductory Flight Screening), which is essentially 2/3 of the training required for a Private Pilot Certificate (usually in Cessna Skyhawks or Piper Warriors).

  • USAF now mandates IFS, so everyone does it now.

  • It's from the ground up.

  • that would be scary as hell getting flipped underwater in thats blue thing at 2:26.

  • that's the helo dunker in pensacola, fl. We did it in Aircrew and did some of the same things pilots did for training. But not as much as them and not as cool.

  • are you a Naval Flight Officer? I'm looking into that program. I wan't to become an NFO.

  • respect yourself..."become" a pilot

  • thats just cool! ,lol

  • LOL! I love that patch!

  • I spent in Pensacola 2 years of my life, got transfered with business and hated it there so much. After a little while I met some good people, they all were there for the navy flight school.I came back home to San Diego last year and actualy run into some here in town.

Graig Wood, Mike Weber, Ryan Klamper;-), Bryan Kruger,Marco Aguilar, I hope you all guys doing good.

    Nathalie

  • hmm i see a rsaf trainee!

  • Awesome video, this is what I want to do after I enlist in the Navy and get to OCS, thanks for the insight into what to expect!

  • I posted it on youtube not to show everyone how cool my API class was, or show off my nonexistent video editing skills, but show other students was API is really like. Regardless of how corny the music is it accomplishes what I put it on here to do. . . . By the way, we were waved from the actual helo hoist in the bay because of hypothermia concerns

  • That's interesting...the helo hoist (the dunk in water?) was waived...will you ever have to go back and do it, and what temps did the water have to be to cancel it?

  • The video was put together in one night based on input from my API class. This is the music everyone wanted and it is the music that I gave them. I tried to mix it up a little bit but I am no DJ. I will admit that it is pretty corny, but it is what it is.

  • no $hit, that was the first movie I ever saw, but when our classmates think they are top gun like that it's pretty homoerotic..

  • Dude, it's topgun

  • Back around 1999 at Columbus AFB, MS, I trained the initial cadre of Navy parasail instructors. Now, the Air Force has ceased land parasail. Go Navy!

  • Couldn't we have something other than that tired old "Danger Zone"? It was cool maybe the first 3,000 times it was used, but now, give us a break!

  • I am with you FlyingCaveman they have gotten softer. I also did the helo dunker and parasailing free fall in the bay. I hated the dunker the worst.

  • and now is the same, you do a real hoist and a free fall, it just don t show in this video

  • Things are getting soft. I got to do a real helo hoist, and the para-sailing was done with a free fall into the bay. Even the parachute drag was done outside not in a heated pool. Then you could manually inflate 1/2 of your LPU, inflate your raft, then try to light your flare with your cold numb hands. Anybody can do it standing on the sea wall. :-(

  • That looks really cool! Do USCG Pilots do it to? (I HOPE SO!!!)

  • ahhh that looks sooo fun ,but the studying part nah

  • i like the top gun music

  • great video, whats the name of the song that starts at 1:38?

  • Ahhh dunker

  • nice

  • cool

  • Ah, memories....class 03-77.
