  • A relic of empire indeed, one of the things that make Canada great

  • just enjoy the fucking show

  • I just love all the comment by all the people that know, and the cadence what are you talking about, marching off theHill there is a break from slow time into quick time, it is executed a particular way. Having been part of this Ceremony for the past 12 years and having done the same thing in London with the British Guards, the Guard Mounting Ceremony on Parliment Hill is very good, the Band of the Ceremonial Gaurd is every bit as good as any Guards Band in the UK.

  • You sir are a complete ignorant fool. You have no idea of what is the seal hunt and probably rely only one biased information to base your critisism. The truth is that seal hunting is an integral part of Canada's inuit culture. You americans are no better so before attacking others you should look at yourself first. Also, I would strongly suggest that you get your facts right before passing any kind of judgment on something that some people rely on for their subsistance.

  • @MrAgent003 ONly our goverment i agree they should ban seal hunt

  • The only thing I hate is the 3 beat bass drum throughout most of the music they play.

    Makes them sound German.

  • @emptyangel It's the cadence, Left, Left, Left Right Left, that's all it is. Most militaries use that in a military band

  • We only do the taps out of tradition. Our drill is among the best in the country, I'm sure a bunch of university music students are able to keep in step for 8 paces :D

  • Is this better than the British? They need three bass drum tunes to keep in step after the slow march ended? And the music is not as well played as in London!

  • It's four* bass drum taps, not three.

Also, if I remember correctly, the soldiers performing the British changing of the guards are full time soldiers. The soldiers in the above video, are all reservist soldiers and musicians in the Canadian Forces. Most of which return to university come the fall when the guard mounts are finished. Our tasking here in Ottawa is purely ceremonial.

  • For part time this is good---probably music-wise its up to professional standard since they are music students after all.

Parade wise they can't be faulted since they've probably never been told past the basics.
