Got my S-61 Harmony Archtop Tenor on last Monday ... yes, Summer of '61, how cool is that? Man, tho, it does kinda need a refret ... :p Gotta ask tho, I use DGBD "bluegrass" tuning - able to suggest string gauges for that (currently using .10, .14, .22w, .32)?
What I suspected - there is a set of John Pearse Tenor Guitar strings at .013, .020, .030, .042 ... seems almost too heavy? I am primarily a banjo player, so really only know the lighter side - so to speak. lol
Just bought a 1963 Harmony H1213 from the local shop. It's got some flaws (broken pickguard, top crack, top and back separating from the sides in a few places) but it oozes mojo, and it plays and sounds fantastic. It's definitely got stories to tell.
i have a 1965 harmony archtop so aweseom my grandfather gave it to me for my first guitar im working on fixing it up. i need a new pickguard for mine though it got busted up pretty bad but overall its very nice mines a 6 string also
@davey4557 is the neck wide enough to be altered to a six string? I might look out for one. and, can you (or anyone) tell me if a guitar can be made/diguised to look like something else, cos if I bring one more home, my wife`ll probably hit me over the head with it!
I once had one of these. Cost me $25 from a pawnshop. The top and back are steamed plywood, with spray-painted stripes to make it look like maple. The binding isn't real binding either, it's white enamel. The rest of the guitar is made from "budgetwood". The fretboard was uncomfortable and it sounded like a cigar box. I tried several things with it, like an 8-string layout and a Gibson fretboard, but ended up using it as firewood.
Awesome sound! i wouldn't know what to play on it though...

@inyourdreamsladdie
no
it's designed as a 4 string tenor
buy guitars that are the same color
it fools them
they all look alike to the women
they only notice the color

@tenorlord
Hey I listened to some of your out of tune caterwauling.I don't think that the thing you're playing sounds any better than this Harmony :)
davey4557 1 year ago
@davey4557 No need to be rude. You didn't build this guitar, so you acquire none of the blame.
