@mmorrison69 Shut up you immature, incompetent, illiterate oaf, are you listening to the same song as the rest of us? Are your ears damaged in some way?Or are you just on here to wind up the rest of us? Point One- It's an epic song. Point Two- It's by an epic band from an epic country. Point Three- Can't you come up with a better adjective? I'm 14 and I know *hold the press!* not all words have to be inappropriate. Point Four-NO-ONE CARES WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.Shock horror! Get over yourself!
I first heard this by Great Big Sea, and I love it, but my goodness, this version is gorgeous! This singer is amazing, the slower tempo, the pipes. It's just perfect. I'm so excited to have found out about Runrig. Thanks to mrsjock1 for posting. Who is singing lead here? What a voice! I'm overwhelmed.
@sn3prwarrior - I knew Great Big Sea hadn't been around as long as Runrig has, and I knew Great Big Sea didn't write Beat the Drum. This original version by Runrig is so beautiful, and that's what I meant to say. I didn't know who had written it, nor did I know the names of any band members. Thanks for letting me know. Do you know who is singing the lead part on this song, by any chance?
sharkan58, according to the lyrics i would say that this song is written about Portree in the Isle of Skye as "Stormy Hill" and the "Black Rock" are Portree
@LiaReid I started listening to these guys when I was ten, and I am now 22. I agree. Most pop songs now are so repetitive...she dumped me, I hate her, oh I think she likes me...snooze. This stuff is more soulful and awesome. Cheers!
after a bbq and a few drinks my mum and dad made me sit through a runrig dvd....i didnt want to to be honest, all i can say now is......thanks guys. runrig are amazing, i wish you made me listen sooner.
i sing this song busking, its gotten to the point now where people request this song. i love the fact i can sing these songs and introduce people to such a great band that love and admire.
i saw them at "hammershus" on bornholm, its some beutifull scenary out theres, and their style of music did fit in just perfect i really enjoyed it ^^
One of the greatest compliments Donnie Munro could get, would be an invitation to sing Beat The Drum at The Edinburgh Tattoo, imagine the crowds reaction and what it would sound like with Massed Pipe Bands playing. Brilliant!!!!!!!
this make you proud to be scottish, also i so badly want to go see them live but cannot get tickets any where close to where i live and its a right gutter, any one who has seen them, you are lucky !

@violetjm It's not a version, this song is 100% Runrig. It was written by band members Rory and Calum MacDonald.
