Got me one yesterday, 2008, 2500 miles, red, in very good condition, $2000.00. Runs and looks fantastic, everything works, been well maintained...what's not to like?! Very happy.
I'd say the quality would be about the same as a yammy/honda/suzuki, but parts would be hard to get in the US in a pinch. With a yammy/honda/suzuki you can get parts pretty much anywhere.
@kens97sto171 Most of the scooters made in china are actually Japanese designed with the Chinese companies having a license to build them. The biggest problem with Chinese scooters is in the asembly. It's a good idea to make sure eveything is tight and snug like gas lines and electical connections.
The Chinese scooters aren't top of the line, but I bought a brand new Chinese 150 cc scooter and got it shipped to my door for only $799. I have over 3,000 miles on it and it still runs great.
That's been my experience too. My Chinese dual sport has been very reliable with only a few minor problems. But your Digg on the assembly and that seems to vary greatly depending on what plant made it. The name on the bike is usually just the importer.
Not Chinese.. SYM is made in Taiwan. Very high quality.. as good as any Japanese model. The Chinese stuff is getting better too though... but still varying quality
thanks for the tip alexsteen....been riding it everywhere now...has about 634 km on it already..next oil change at 1k....its a fabulous ride is what i can say...so excited everytime i know im gonna ride it....but no good choice of helmets though...asked me sis to buy one from the states..they have very good ones there..plus my xl headsize..lol!!!...long live sym...woooo hoooooo....
i tested the sym scooter but its called gts200 here...????...
all n all its very powerful,...the rev is good and yes quite smooth on the road for something that weighs heavy..looks good too and made payment...by this afternoon or tmorow morning will have it out and taking it to its new home..woooo hoooo..
any tips or tricks please do share as i am a first time bike owner...cant wait to take it out and just keep on riding.. :)
Lol. I'm getting one too! Good choice. For me, at this price range it boiled down to the SYM rv 250, Scarabeo 200 and the People S 200. All are good choices but the rv 250 has TONS of storage, so many good little details on it, big wheels, is stable at 130km+ on the highway, and it's just so awesome.
I recommend downloading the scooter safety manual from modernvespa forums. And also go to a riding school.
Well I've had mine for nearly a year (bought second hand) and it's a good 'un. I agree the exhaust is quick to rust especially if ridden all year round, but a session with wire brush and black high temperature paint can soon sort it out. The ride is good for a heavy machine (175kg) - mine was a bit of a dog until I got matched tyres fitted. I disagree about brake-pad life. Mine is used regularly and I'm still on the same pads from when it was bought - I just don't ride it heavily.
I see, you don´t believe me. Thatt´s all right for me.I have den my duty: To warn about it. Then it is all up to you to listen.I live in Denmark- Europe- And next summer i´ll go buy a scooter of an other brand.- Nobody wants to buy my SYM 250 gts - It is called different names all over the world, but it is the same scooter. I have the repair bills- - I can mail it to you, if you are reallly interested and not paied by the company.
It´s okay if have an other oppinion than me.- Would you like to pay the garage bills- go ahead. I can mail the cpoies of the bills if you don´t believe me.
I'm sure that's bull. This scooter is great. I own a Yamaha TMAX and I've ridden the SYM and it's a quality machine. I just wish it was fuel injected!
It is a fine scooter to drive- the service is horrible-to lang waiting for spareparts. And the brakes are worn down in less than 1000km.The Exhaustion is rusted away in 18 months. Go ahead bying it,,,,Disappointed owner
I visited scooter sites world wide in search of reviews of the SYM RV 250, and your review is the first one I have found that gives such a horrible review! I purchased my RV 250 December 16, 2008 and while I haven't ridden it, it is a beauty...Do you really own the RV 250?
? where do you live? the middle of the desert? i had to wait 3 days for the part i wanted ( tail light replacment broken by my sons baseball grrr) as for the brakes i just dont know what to saY...i have never heard anything so ridiculous...over 8000 miles on mine no problems at all...you sure you own one?? you sure your not confused with some chinese garbage you bought?

5 grand for a scooter?! I just moved to Vietnam and purchased an SYM for $700 US. Must be quite the tariff to send scooters to America.

Are you talking about the same bike?
I just bought one in Malaysia for 9000RM, that's about 3000$. Mine is a 200 though, not a 250.

I'd like to see SYM secure a dealer in the Shreveport, La. area; many local Airmen would appreciate such an affordable, quality bike.
