Oh you did, so you did, so did he and so did I And the more I think about it sure the nearer I'm to cry Oh weren't them the happy days when troubles we knew not And or mothers made colcannon in the little skillet pot.
Oh you did, so you did, so did he and so did I And the more I think about it sure the nearer I'm to cry Oh weren't them the happy days, when troubles we knew not And or mothers made colcannon in the little skillet pot.
Oh you did, so you did, so did he and so did I And the more I think about it sure the nearer I'm to cry Oh weren't them the happy days, when troubles we knew not And or mothers made colcannon in the little skillet pot.
jazuz i remember gettin colcannon on halloween from my ma,she used to hide money in it wrapped in tin foil so ye had to be carefull not to break a tooth, haha
did you ever go a courting boys when the evening sun went down, and the moon began a peepin from atop the hill o' down, anf you wandered down the bohreen where the clurachain was seen, and you whispered loving praises to your own dear sweet cailin
did you ever bring potatoe cake or boxty to the school, tucked underneath your oxter with your books your slate and rule, and when teacher wasn't lookin sure a great big bite you'd take, of the creamy flavoured soft and melting sweet potatoe cake
@LorcanORyan: L.O.L at this part - reminds of me of eating in class!! :-D Our old Geog. teacher used to have a rule about eating in class - you could eat whatever as long as you brought enough to share!! I once brought several large bags of Haribo, kept one for me and split the rest!!
Did you ever have colcannon made with lovely pickled cream, and the greens and scallions mingled like a picture in a dream, did you ever make a hole on top to hold the melying flake, of the creamy flavoured butter that our mother used to make, so you did, so you did, so did he and so did I, and the more I think about it sure the nearer I'm to cry, oh weren't them the happy days when troubles we new not and our mothers made colcannon in the little skillet pot ,
god its great to hear this! i have a load of the black family songs on tape but cant get them on cd or download them anywhere! so cant put them on my ipod! anyone know where can i get them?
I love this song. The first time I heard it was at a Fleadh Cheoil concert in Kilrush, County Clare in the early 60's sung by the late, great Séamus Ennis.

It's amazing how a song THIS good can be about some dish of food I've never heard of, and there are absolutely no instruments.
