This little short was what actually taught me the different types of teeth, and how they worked: every time I hear about incisors or molars, my mind refers right back to this song.
I can't believe I still remeber this! I wasen't sure why I always hum this song when eating carrots so punched the verse into the search engine and sure enough it wasn't a figment of my imagination. It's real! Crazy how the mind works. I couldn't have been any older than 6 when I heard this and it's still there in my head after 25+ years!
I remember as a kid being especially puzzled by this PSA. Yuck Mouth I could get behind because brushing your teeth made perfect sense, but teeth exercising?!? Somehow my parents overlooked this key topic while raising me.
PUMPERNICKLE CARROT STICKS! CRUNCHY FRUITS AND NUT! LMAO when i was a kid this was my fav... but i didn't realize how much chopper sound like a mob boss.
just a great reminder of what made Saturdays in the 70's and very early 80's so great. I think my son would really get a kick outta this stuff. Funny how these PSAs just lodge in your brain. Probably been 25 yrs since I last saw this, thanks!
Great blast from the past. Do they even do PSAs like this for kids any more? God forbid they do something to benefit the kids instead of shilling some toy or game during commercials....
yes it may cause some wearing of the enamel but it also stimulates periodontal bone growth around the root of the teeth forming strong connection to the jaw bone.
'80s kids who saw this PA had to learn the hard way that telling their phys ed teacher that they didn't need to run laps because they had already eaten celery didn't work. Seriously, I discussed this with a bunch of fellow '80s children, and we'd ALL tried it. :P
my brother and i have recited this commercial for years back in forth. also timer with his saturdae and wagon wheel. good stuff. kids need more positive propaganda in their lives.
NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL INTERESTING!! These shows were the stuff. However these shows had passed away. I remember this from ABC and they should readvertise these PSAs very often.
LOL! The Chopper reminded me of "The Fonz" when he had the animated series "Fonz and the Happy Days Gang", during the late 70's early 80's. I remember this fondly during saturday morning cartoons on ABC.
This is a fantastic little video clip. But it is probably why my generation has such high incidences of obesity... chewing isn't exercise! Go to the gym and workout your body ^_-
actually it's more likely the kids that watched these are the parents of the kids now that are obese and not watching these things on tv. I think these little clips were great :)
I remember this it was part of the ABC cartoon lineup as a lil boy.

This commercial had some longevity, as I ended up seeing it in a series of Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show episodes recorded at some point in early 1992.
@acholl980 Didn't know about this being a DePatie-Freleng production.

Yeah, the health benefits of this one are pretty obscure! :D
I'm guessing this was a way to "dumb down" the subject of eating fiber, for better digestive health?

Grease 2? Why not just "Grease"?
The Chopper sounds more like Bowzer...
I miss those Saturday Mornings..

Because "Grease 2" was cheesy as hell, plus the T-Birds were turned into wusses in the second film.

Chewing hard food all the time (like those) will actually wear out your teeth. Kind of like wearing out your tires.
