  • Everytime I hear this i feel like being chased by baby elephants...

  • for some reason this song reminds me of pretty much every don knotts movie :)

  • I still love that movie!!! Hatari!! John Wayne, Red Buttons, Elsa Martinelli, Bruce Cabot! How could you go wrong! One of John Wayne's best. I must admit I am a huge John Wayne fan but this, at least to me, is one of his very best. I was just a little kid when it came out but I still LOVE it! The "Duke" cannot be beat!

  • Boy, does this bring back memories of when I was a kid! Thanks!

  • This goes out to all the "Phone Crazies"; If you know what I mean....

  • @shitdick79 "Dodge had a good time too."

  • @missspyridona Thank god I'm not the only one to have read that book.

  • @shitdick79 sure do, its from Stephen Kings Cell Book ... a Zombie favourite LOL

  • AWW!!! i love this song. i played it my 8th grade year in band. i had the awesome melody! thats the joy of playing the saxophone!

  • OH YEAH~ this is what I'm talking about...real music that keeps you happy! I ate a brownie about an hour ago and feeling the love.

  • This sounds much better in the Stereo version (Baby Elephant Walk Dot LP)

  • this song was metioned in a stephen king book and lawrence welk was mentioned in the catcher in the rye if i remember correctly so i thought it was time i checked it out :)

  • What kind of jukebox is that?

  • Well, on my city we have a Circus that promotes the Children's Hospital..and i Swear...they do the best "Baby elephant walk" you will ever hear...they are so professional...and they know the true rhythm and swing to the true "Baby Elephant Walk"

  • Reminds me Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico 1962. good times good music.

  • this is the bckground tune in most indian movies when some one fat walks into the screen.

  • this was also used in a movie titied,"An Elephant Called Slowly".

  • I loved this song as a kid.

I just looked it up, and it peaked at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The peak date was 9/15/62. I would have been 13 years old then.

    Tom

  • esta musica era do filme HATARI estrelado por JOHN WAYNE E CLAUDIA CARDINALI nos anos 60. grande filme, grande trilha sonora de HENRY MANCINI.

    PAULÃO

  • this reminds me of the aristocats.

  • Amelia and Abigail Gabble! That's exactly what I thought when I heard this, LOL!

  • No "good evening friends" at the end in this version, which was in Henry Mancini's original

  • Whoops! Question answered. Just read your profile. Well Done!

  • Great tune and great turntable setup Greg!

Did you build this or was this actually sold in stores?

  • Until today I did not know the title of this song, I always called it "the circus song".

  • @jaworskij It was composed by the incomparable Henry Mancini for the movie Hatari, lest you are interested.

  • funky tune

  • Ha...geez...I only listened because I remember this is what the zombies in Stephen King's "Cell" novel listened to during their nightly reboot...bloody hell, weird tunes for those freaks...

  • Trombones at 1:11!

  • oh, yeah, that's an accordian!! go baby elephant, GO!

  • You're hearing a clarinet and a soprano saxophone. No accordion anywhere in this.

  • thanks for the clarification.

  • To Oldiesmann: It is not precisely correct to say there is "no accordion anywhere in this." There are some quick touches on the accordion throughout the piece, espeically at the end (try 2.04 for a very noticeable moment). But the accordion is very much in the background and often is blended with the rest of the orchestra, so it would be correct to say there is no accordion solo at any point, which was no doubt your meaning.

  • @romeman01 you're right. Thats a high E flet clarinet, BTW

(a rare instrument) The organist Jerry Burke ( I believe that's

him here) normally played Hammond organ on the Welk show

and I think th's what's used here. Welk had no connection with

Lowery , and used Hammonds until Bob Ralston replaced

Burke in 1965. Kenny G plays soprano sax not alto. (I'm

throwing in this info, I figure Tennesseeretiree will be reading

    this too,

  • nope...not an accordian. Its a Lowery electric organ and a clarinet, alto sax (same as Kenny G. likes to play) and trombones as mentioned below. The movie Hatari starred John Wayne, BTW.

  • Oooh I love love love love it!!
