I have that laptop and it's more than great. I had the overheat problem, but I downloaded "ThrottleStop" and the problem is solved. 3 years and still I'm not thinking about changin it

Over all this laptop holds alot of sentimental value for me personally. While it has some problems I would still give it best laptop made in '08. If anyone wants a guide to installing/using throttle-stop just pm me, I would be happy to help.

@kEANcss just remove the bottom cover and clean the dust from the heatsync fins, you will notice a great improvement in temps.

I have had this laptop since my freshman year in high school (2008) and have LOVED it! I now have a sager np8170 but still bust out my Acer from time to time for some light gaming and lan parties. My only complaint is the issue with cpu throttling which I have fixed by installing throttlestop. I recently repasted my cpu and video card with IC diamond compound and am getting AWESOME temps, cpu under load is around 35-38c and gpu is 60-68c.

my cpu idles around 25c and video card around 56c

this laptop is very pretty .. i loved it.. but it comes wit a lot of defects... i read reviews online to confirm it... aftr 4 months my battery asnt good.. 6 months. the harddrive spoiled... den the last ting recently.. the motherboard went down... i miss that laptop though

Had one for two years and it runs flawlessly. Still looks like new since I use it as a desktop. If you have issues with it, it's most likely a Windows problem. Don't always blame the hardware. Battery life is not great because it's a powerful entertainment laptop. It never runs hot and the fan is almost totally silent, even when playing games and watching blu-Ray movies. The graphics card with a good external display like my Viewsonic is spectacular.

Don't buy this laptop, the Cinedash freezes quite often (only fix is to turn off and remove battery...great in the middle of a presentation), the CD drive's broken twice, it crashes to blue screen RANDOMLY once or twice a month.

Too bad because it's good when it works.

But you can't rely on it.

Mine's still running fantastic, like new. However, the build quality isn't very good after almost two years. Cracks forming everywhere, it creaks when I pick it up with one hand, and the closed-lid sensor has long since died.

i ama really sorry to disapoint everyone who has given good comments on this laptop, all i can say is, do you all ahve this model. this is the 2nd acer 6920 gemstone i have had. the first one had to be replaced by pc world cos the touch screen panel was fucked, and i am having the same problem with this one., not to mention 2 weeks after getting this one the O.S became corrupt and it had to be sent off for all new software. I hate this laptopn and will be rid f it soon as i find something better

whats the specs? if the specs are better than T8100 2.1ghz and 9500M GS than its well worth it. im assuming it has the T9300 with 2.5ghz and 9600 with ddr 3. 1600 AUD (900€) is well worth it.

theres a program that acer installed in there called 'bio protection' it lets you fingerprint scan anything that requires a password eg. your gamespot, email, or even you tube acount to get in. I just use it only to log in my windows. Not that special

i paid £685.97 for this laptop 2 weeks ago, i had to take it back to the shop the next day because there was a problem with the cindash. it wouldnt work at all and when i looked at the FAQ's it is a common problem so they replaced it and now the cindash works but only with the power lead. not with just batt. and when you use arcade delux it asks you to install update, if you click yes you cant use blueray. 2 big downfalls but still great sound and graphics, and looks pretty sexy.

No. Most Acer computers are good (looking), but the hardware and performance means more. Some acer computers are very slow, and problems come often at them. HP, Fujitsu Siemens or Packard Bell is a better choice.

And I have an HP as well as an Acer. The Acer is the 6920 notebook, the HP is a desktop. The laptop runs rings around it in every application.

Fujitsu's are cheap, like the Daewoo's of the computer world. :P

Siemens.. never worked with them before. As for Acer, the material quality on mine is fantastic, it's fast, and has a fantastic screen and sound system.

All the hardware in Acer's, HP's, ect. are the same, by the way. Only diff is MB.

Perhaps you should be more specific. If you are speaking about my comment of Dell computers, yes, I HAD one. (The HAD is for a reason.)

It was, indeed, a piece of crap. I got rid of it when I purchased my previous computer, an HP Pavilion notebook. I replaced THAT after about a year and a half with this Acer.

So, in more abridged conclusion, I had a Dell, and helped my Aunt get rid of hers as well. Dells are crap. You don't know me, or what computer's I've owned.

I work in a computer shop, i have worked on it. Graphical design is good, no doubt about that. But i worked on a new pc, and it was so slow charging applications or clicking around the desktop. If u spend lots of money for this laptop u should take another better brand, like toshiba or asus, imho.

HDX 16 or ACER 6920G PLS NEED help, which one should I go for? the only draw back of the acer is that side remote that doesn't let the keyboard be on the center of the laptop, which is not good for writting on your lap and long hrs. the HDX 16 also come with a tv tunner and remote. There is nothing I can find against both laptops, they are both the same level and performance.

I use both Vista and Mac computers. I think Leopard's more stable. You can still install Office and download Firefox if you're more used to Windows. Besides, a Mac allows you to run BOTH Leopard and vista/XP with Bootcamp.

my cinedash isnt working, it worked for a bout 2 mins but i think i pressed somthing to disable it, i know its not the Hold button cause when i press that nothing changes. Any idea what could be wrong?

Same thing happned to me, i think it was somthing i did when i was configuring it.

Acer told me to shut the machine off, remove the battery for 10 seconds, replace the battery, then turn it back on.

is the comp was built for vista, then putting xp will actually slow it down. Been there done that. And now that Sp3 is out it messes up your drivers on certain new machines. not sure if the Acer is affected, I know my Compaq and my Toshiba were. You could always dual boot if you really NEED Xp.

Yupp Drivers wont install. nor will xp autorecognize the hardware and install proper drivers. I HATE MICROSOFT. What really pisses my off is that there arnt any OS disks suplied with the computers today. I jsut baught an 8920G. I will soon be posting a review on it. Recovery disks arnt even necessary since Acer and all new computers have some sort of recovery system. It prevents us from copying the operating system disks.

I brought one of these and its the best laptop i ever owned or used.

Its haldled every game I have tried on it so far. I have not tried crysis but I have my desktop for that.

For the money i think the 6920 is well worth it for what specs you get.

it depends on the model. mine had the blu-ray drive, but there are models of 6920 without it.

@MolestedChimp: for games like crysis you need a better gpu than 9500m gs. however you can play crysis at medium details and a normale resolution.
