  • At least this is better than the Apple II version. :P

  • I downloaded this version of the game first. *Cuts self*

    Never again.

  • thats a boring ballblazer !

    NINTENDO SHOULD APOLOGIZE ATARI !!!

....i feel bad today was the first time i tried to play 3ds

    AND I LIKED IT

  • REAL fucked shit NES.

    Atari in better in all.

  • This is why the 7800 is better than the NES. ATARI PWNS!

  • So unfortunate - it's a terrible conversion. The NES is a considerably more advanced machine than the Atari 8-bit computers that Ballblazer was written on, and it could EASILY have reproduced the graphics, with anti-aliasing, as well as the sound.

It looks like it was kind of a half-assed effort, unfortunately. I know some of the stuff that went into the original game, but even in the early days of NES games, this sort of thing wasn't terribly difficult. And Activision had some good people.

  • If anyone wants to see amazing graphics on the NES that are similar to Ballblazer, check out the two 3D World runner games, and Cosmic Epsilon. And for kick ass sounding music, check out Journey to Silius, and Castlevania 3.

  • I think most people think 1:24 is the actual game, I did at first too!

  • I can truly say that this is probably the only game that is inferior in every way to the 7800 version. Even in the 3-D view.

  • Don't be stupid, guys.

The architecture of both consoles was VASTLY different--The NES was a tile-based console.

The MARIA GPU of the Atari 7800 allowed it to create these pseudo-3D graphics, but it was impossible for it to generate games with graphics in the lines of Super Mario Brothers, because it wasn't designed for tile-based graphics.

  • @sentidocomunve - There are still ways of using tile graphics to generate pseudo-3D environments - particularly simple ones like the checkerboard. Ballblazer's graphics on the 7800 were fairly uncomplicated even by that machine's standards, and the NES had considerably more processing power available to it than the Atari 8-bit computers. What was done in hardware on the Atari could have been done in software on the NES more elegantly and cleanly than how it appears they did.

  • YO THIS GAME IS BETTER ON THE ATARI

  • And all better on the 7800 too

  • This is only the intro guys...

  • ooo fun

  • Wow this is bad. They should've made it like 3D world runner, thats a good looking 3d game. Maybe its the split screen that makes it suck....

  • The Atari version looks and sounds better than this one, the 3d on the NES is a joke...

  • I'm kind of surprised how bad this looks after seeing games like 3D World Runner 1 and 2.

  • Haha....this is the most pathetic version of Ballblazer ever.... the Atari 800 version totally destroys this piece of crap. Even the tune is nerve wrecking in this NES version, aaah, switch it off!!

  • @1981Myname watch the second part of thiis movie :)

  • That's really pathetic. They left out everything that made Ballblazer interesting in the first place.

  • Open mouth, insert foot! I only watched the first half of the video and though the whole game was that little isometric view. Oops.

  • can't believe the Atari 7800 version is better than the NES version... Definity in the sound department.

  • The 7800 version is one of two games released that use a built in POKEY chip. Visually, this type of game plays into the 7800's strengths moreso than the NES. Also, was the NES version even done by Lucasfilm?

  • If only Atari would have utilized the POKEY chip in more of their games. They might have had a chance in hell of taking on the NES. Well, that, and more theird party support.

  • The Atari 7800 was on par with the NES in terms of overall processing power, but when trying to do anything more than simple sprite based graphics, as seen here, the NES suffers. Only having 2 KB of ram doesn't do it any favors, either.

  • @RABBIDGamfan let me tell you that never you could see game like S.C.A.T. , Battle Toad and Double Dragon or Contra on the atari 7800 , or else these confversion would be horrible compared to the nes

  • I never said the Atari 7800 was good as the NES for displaying 2D graphics.

  • Actually Double Dragon was on the 7800, as was Commando, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., Kung Fu, Ikari Warriors, Rampage, & Xevious.

  • I don't expect the music to be EXACTLY the same without the awesome SID chip, but this isn't even in the right key! :\

  • Awesome SID chip? I believe you mean the awesome POKEY chip.

  • No, I mean awesome SID chip. Ballblazer had a C64 version too, so pack your pedant shit up and go back to your mom's basement.

  • Yes, there was a C64 Ballblazer. And it sucked.

  • That doesn't hide the fact that you tried to be Mr. Smarty Man and failed, failed, FAILED.

  • And the SID music on the C64 version sucked. POKEY wins! "Smarter than the average YouTuber"... damn, talk about a low bar to set for yourself...

  • No, it was excellent. But thanks anyway.

  • I didnt know ballblazer was available for the nes. Great game!

  • Did anyone look at the second half of the video? In that part, it actually looks like normal Ballblazer.

  • Yeah, Atari 7800 version is definitely better!

  • 7800 has the better version of this game

  • more reasons to hate the NES. Poor Atari 7800

  • Theres Alot Of Other Great Games

  • This cannot possibly be real.

  • well its there so it must be real lol hope you can subscribe to me

  • Ghey ass high pitched music compared to the atari

  • got any game requests leave a comment on my channel
