  • Snooty French.....always surrendering...usually to Germany

  • my grand father was military and ...prisonnier....not died and return after war in south french.....he work in camp concentration ( burn coprs dead or not....) or he burned too....freedom by Us atak...sry for grammar and tribute for them resistan and pooor soldier fr.....they cant does nothing and fight only with courage cuz thzey was communist vs fashist

  • My grandfather was in the French army in 1940. he would have liked to fight but as he said : he did'nt have bullets to shoot . Apparently the French Army did have weapons but where were they ? in the ifferent German docs about Stalingrad and Russia, they mention that they use stolen Panhard from the French Army. If about 100,000 french fell in May/June 40, a bit more than 100,000 Germans also fell at that time in France .

  • viva la france! greetings from england :)

  • Vive la liberty!!

  • FRENCH RESISTANCE IS A MYTH !

    Only a bunch of guys.

    maybe 2,000 at the most.

Frenches waited for years, until the very end, to see in which direction the wind was blowing.

When milions of Americans, Canadians, Brits and Russians died for them, they became "Resistants" !!!

A real bunch of cowards. My father died as millions of others for France.

    Them ? Just looking aside ! Pussies ! A real shame !

fRENCHES WIATED AT THE VERY END TO SEE IN WHICH DIRECTION THE WIND WAS BLOWING.

  • @mrktyb Cough, source pl0x

    OH WAIT

    You dont have one...

  • @mrktyb They fought a diffrent kind of warfare, in an occupied nation. They did what they could, according to the circumstances. There is no comparison between both groups, so just shut the fuck up.

  • @makokun9

    dear ignorant mako

Did you know that 300,000 hundrers babies were born in only 3 years in France during the "occupation" ?

these were born of LOVE relationships between germans soldiers and french women.

    not rape.

you can search on the net if you wish. these are hidden facts which only demonstrate the passivity of all the french nation during those years.

considering the number of fertile women then, these numbers are extremely high.

so shut up VERY STUPID IGNORANT LATINO !

  • @mrktyb Aw, so cute! Thinking that resorting to bigotry is going to take you ANYWHERE in life! XD

Now, even though many simply gave in to the power of the invaders, by saying that ALL the French were cowards, you undermine the efforts of those who killed officers, raided compounds, sabotaged factories, etc., which is not fair, for many people gave - literally - their lives to resist the occupation. But you seem to be the kind of person who likes to simpily things because it´s easier that way.

  • @makokun9 Re your comments aimed at mrktyb, no not all French were cowards but their "resistance" as a nation was pretty feeble. The level of resistance only became meaningful once the war was swinging the way of the allies. The famous french resistance is largely a myth perpetuated by Hollywood and underlying long standing anti-semitism in France also led to large scale collaboration in the Holocaust.

  • @66scampi Now, that's a different story. I won't deny that the role of the Resistance has been taken out of proportion by literature, the movie industry, etc., but insurrection as it happened with the Partisans on the Eastern Front was very difficult condsidering France's size and how the authorities simply gave in and collaborated with the Nazis. However, honor should not be denied to those who deserve it, even if these were few compared to other insurgent groups.

  • @mrktyb Sorry I don't know why I even tried to feed the bigot in you - I should have reacted the same way people react to you in real life, and ignore you. You are a sad, bitter old man.

  • Thank you for sharing these images of these brave souls. It distresses me that so many of my fellow Americans know so little about world history and the contributions the French have made to not only the USA but to the world.

  • you Got that from medal of honour underground that ps1 game!

  • While one should certainly celebrate the actions of the frenchr esistance during the war, its worth remembering that there were 50 french collaborators for every resistant, especially before the STO in 1943.

  • WWII French Resistance!!!

    Vibe la France!!

  • hey guy, there is an event called d-day in oklahoma there is a unit in there call the french resistance you guys can come look at the website just search oklahoma d day on google(dot)c0m or click here ddayadventurepark(dot)c0m/

  • Quel bel accent franchouillard !

  • @blazemk yes ! yes ! and yes ! you are indeed right about french resistance !

  • Great video. Very moving. The world needs to hear much more about these brave folks.

    Vive la France

  • @blazemk : England won at El alamein only because 3300 french stopped 45000 Italians and Germans at Bir Hakeim during more than two weeks !!!! When the germans and the italians arrive, the found new english troops!!!

  • @blazemk : England won at El alamein only because 3300 french stopped 45000 Italians and Germans at Bir Hakeim during more than two weeks !!!! When the germans and the italians arrive, the found new english troops!!!

  • French Resistance?? bahahah what french resistance ? French were the biggest cowards of world war 2 ... i dont know what you guys did during the war but it was pathetic how u surrendered in 1939 to the Germans... Seriously what are u french proud about when matters concern world war2? Where were you when Poland was overrun by Germans.. Poland had a pact with England and France that if hitler attacked they would come and fight. England declared War.. France surrendered. No honor what so ever

  • @blazemk regarde ceci ..........youtube.com/watch?v=zUMvmaUZSrs

  • @blazemk how many times do I hvae to say it? Just cos you don't know about it doesn't mean it didn't happened! Just taking ONE example: the Communists students, in paris, organized manifestations already in November 1940! They began the armed Resistance in 1941, beofre June 22nd and after, it of course increased. If there were no resistance, why did all the polices create anti-communist, anti-terrorist (back then they called resistants "terrorists") divisions? Especially the "briagdes spéciales"

  • @blazemk if you tried to learn some truth instead of holding unto old clichés, you would see these first groups were arrested by these brigades, tortured, given to the GFP, re interrogated, sent to La Santé and put on "trial": first trial took place in march 42: 7 young Frenchs were shot; the second trial involved 27 resistance fighters from the same organization, mostly young guys: 23 were shot. The younger was 17, and was born in Germany. Those FIRST cases are almost forgotten today, obviously

  • i think it was great that the real french such as the FFI(french forces of the interior) and the FTP(francs tireurs et partisans) believed in french nationhood when so many others like petain believed in destroying the nation. the actions of the resistance stood in marked difference to the regimeinstalled at vichy, just proves no-one could defeat a national imperative countering an existential threat, et donc je dis VIVE LA FRANCE!

  • @Fridomfry

yeah vichy france installed anti semitic policies which mirrored that of the third reich, if you consider all the french orphans being sent to nazi concentration camps as a "bad decision" by petain fair enough that would make you an anti semite in this day. also the third republics leaders were used as scapegoats for the new regime, the socialist leon blum was put in a nazi concentration camp until 1945. he wanted to co-operate with the nazis not save france

  • @gerip4 , part of my family was sent to Auschwitz. Others were in an underground group, arrested, tortured and shot in 1944. Yet, according to what I have heard, in June 1940 none of them saw any other solution than signing the armistice. It was not Pétain who lost the battle, it was the politicians and generals of the 3rd Republic.

And, no, the socialist Leon Blum was not put in a nazi concentration camp, but in a French, then a German prison. Nothing comparable with forced labor camps.

  • @Fridomfry

yeah my family died in auschwitz also. so you were jewish french? understandably why your family were in the resistance then. however i was right about blum he was sent to buchenwald in 1943 then dachau in 1945. they were nazi concentration camps non?

  • @gerip4 , yes, a mix of Jewish, Catholic & atheists, some of them right-wing. The resistance seemed to be a simple duty - helping French prisoners and downed Allied airmen to escape, or for two of them (Navy officers) working in a naval intelligence group for the British.

The Germans sent Leon Blum in 1943 to a prison house near Buchenwald, not in the concentration camp itself, as he was still a tradable asset... Anyway he really shared the responsibility for the 1940 disaster.

  • Great video. Thanks!

  • Thank you France, for helping us during the Revolutionary War! Don't listen to all the haters, we love you over here.

  • @SecularZone thx, I thought all the english on youtube hated the french for surrendering inWW2. Makes me sad when I think of my 4 dead grandads, shot in action.

  • @SecularZone thx u by french

  • visit my channel and look my tribute to french resistance !

Vive la France vive les USA !

  • I am from the United States and I have studied the war since I learned to read. The French resistance holds a very dear place in my heart. There is a resistance musee at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in the south of France.

Nice photos... I must say though the girl at 1:36 is not French she is Tito's partyzants if I was to guess.

  • @c9ari

    that......is a girl?

    holy shit

  • Ya I know bow wow......

  • I think it's very callous and ignorant for people like Spraynpray to talk about the French surrendering.

Over 100, 000 brave French men died fighting for their country before then.

I saw a documentary with a British man, talking about their defenses. He said, "I talked with people who had 1 World War I machine gun to defend 2 miles of coastline. We had nothing! The Germans could have rolled right over us!"

Had Adolph Hitler ordered his troops forward, England would have been crushed.

  • Let me guess with a attitude like your'es, American?

  • How bout when the french supplied and came to the aid of the American revolution ? Their wouldn't be a USA if the french had not saved the day. They can have a pass on that big save

  • i think america likes to pretend that they didn't need any help as they are superior to all other nations.

  • You really ought to learn some history, sweetie.

  • You forgot your home work.

  • le french resistance est genial!

  • This video evokes Churchill's immortal words..."We shall go on to the end, .... we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall defend ...., whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, ...in the fields and in the streets, ...in the hills; we shall never surrender. We shall go on to the end, .... " Vive le France!!

  • To bad there isn't a movie like Defiance for the French resistance. I know in the longest day they have some French people in it. But I'm talking about a movie only on them.

  • Great video. We must always appreciate those who stand against tyranny.

Vive la France for ever.

  • ANY country; France, Britain, the USA, on the shoulder of the Third Reich would have folded. Or, at least a country like the USA which has much more space could have conducted a resistance and bled the Nazis white. France gets a bum wrap. They folded and bought time. They joined us in North Africa, albeit after some hideous unpleasantness, and fought beside the allies for the rest of the war.

  • Tomacatos, we didn't know that the Poles had fought to the last man, either in 1772, 1793, 1795, 1939 or 1945. You are not in a position to teach us lessons (nor is any nation in a position to teach lessons to any other).

  • Tomcatos, I am sure that you do not have even 1/10 courage of a french soldier

  • Yeah... good sense of sarcasm. 1/10? No... it has to be 10/1.

  • @amanskius

So you would hold a position for 14 day without any supply, with an enemy 15 times more numerous, better equipped, and with aerial support when all you have are 75mm cannon and Machinegun Carrier?

I'm not sure. I'm not sure I would do myself, I hope I will never have to do it. But what's sure is that the French people have done it in Bir-Hakeim, fighting 45000 soldiers when they were only 3700, for 14 days.

  • @chenoir they had about 2 modern canons. apart from that, it was a few forgotten napoleonic canons =p.

  • my grandma was in the Spanish resistance

  • A gay Nazi. How strange.

  • Haha, and you're from Poland, how hypocritical. I salute both the French and Polish resistance.

  • You disgust me. What would you have done, collaborated with the nazis? To join the resistance was the only human thing they could do. Nothing wrong with assassinating german officers, in fact it's heroic.

  • Even if you are a francophobe, you should not speak like that here, it is almost racist.

How can you qualify as "joke" the courage of young people died to save their country ? You speak about it as if it was about a small group of 10 persons throwing pebbles on nasty German. There was a torture and reprisals, have you ever heard about Oradour or the massacr in Alps ? It was dangerous and heroic. Without the resistance, may be that French would speak German now but we know that USA saved us.

  • id do the one in 1:14

  • I wonder if you realise the french lost over 15 million men in WW1.. the country was leaft in tatters..learn your history u moronic prick

  • @GBOY69GAY your comment is stupid and irrevelant. head back to scool. I spit on you. Do you mean that around 3OOO french evaporated?

  • Comment removed

  • Right, yet it makes some sense. WW1 was just 25 years ago, and the heroism of the "poilus" was an example and a motivation for many resistants: "Our fathers were able to stop the Beast, let's be as brave as them!"

Moreover, some resistants were veterans of the great war men in their 40s or 50s. De Gaulle was one of them

  • well done.

  • Pourquoi tu me dis ca a moi ?

  • putain... where the hell does th US get off tellin france theyre a bunch o cowards, at yorktown... i will remind u, there were more french soldiers thn americans, an th battle of chesapeake bay was won by th french navy...

  • we get off saying that because france not wanting to support us after being attacked in september 11. We also get off saying that after in the 90s when they sold Saddam Hussain a nuclear missle plant which had to be destroyed by Isreal.

  • These two posts are probably the two most intelligent things I've seen posted on youtube.

  • La France is a free country, free to decide its fate, as well as free to let others be free. US was attacked twice because they whished it like that, not the general public, but their ELECTED representative goverment. Vive Rousseau! Vive La France!

  • good for you, well said

  • Or how about when the U.S. put saddam into power to creat a mess you would ony have to clean up later. Just throwing that out there...

  • the US didnt put saddam in power.

  • I agree,we supported Iran they was the ones buying US,Iraq bought Russian

  • MI6 and CIA backed the Coup in 1968 to put the Bath party in power. The bath party over threw a pro communst party in Iraq, the same type of thing that was going on in Vietnam, and in Korea in the arly 50's

  • France failed in Vietnam was the reason the US went in,to stop communism,No the US never backed the Coup in Iraq,The Brits French and Germans and Russians are the ones that was making money off arms deals to saddam not the US..

  • If it is incorrect, i mean no disrespect, however it is what many here and around the world believe. Just so we are clear I am not trying to bash anyone and I have no dislike for americans. Many people in my family have fought with the US Forces, In Korea Vietnam and Most recently with the 101st in IRAQ I myself have been a Canadian soldier for almost 20 years myself and Have done many OPs with US forces.

  • Yes I like Canada,we couldnt have a better nieghbor,I too have served 15 years,I was disabled in Iraq,I had 4 Canadians that went through basic training with me in 1985..US and Canada are brother countries and will always be

  • @americaneagle1967 I'm french, and it hurts me to say this is true, but it is.

  • they crept out of their holes when the germans were already retreating... earlier most of them were collaborating or running away. thats why still nobody has any respect for the frenchmen. fighting as civilian without uniform and this at the very end of the war is NOT very brave, monsieurs...

  • Well, the Germans did exactly the same at the end of the Napoleonic war, after the Grande Armee had been massacred in Russia. Armed resistance was pointless in occupied Europe until June 1944 - except from Stalin's point of view.

Nevertheless, thousands of French fought openly against the Germans in Africa since 1940. Remember that, at Bir-Hakeim in 1941, one light French brigade held up 4 Italian and German armoured divisions during 3 weeks.

  • well, burning kids in ovens isn't very brave too I think...

  • You say that because you have the US, has never seen a front line of a war.... ohhh wait yea they did, American Revolution? would it have been possible without the millions of francs, france "donated"? and again when really proven against the british (1812) the US then again was losing everything! (washington was lost!), but again Napoleon saved them. So shut up The US is alive because of France, and one last thing THE US DIDN'T DESTROYED THE GERMANS, the Soviet did.

  • @kackenaufdemdach once again, you represent the perfect ineducated french resistance denier. I spit on you

  • De Gaulle said one day when he was questionned about his motivation "My general... tell me more about you"... do you know what he replied

  • lovely photos mate

    beautiful music

    merci

  • hard to say but petainj should have been hung but bufferings finished now

  • Go to care your problem with France in a psychiatric hospital.Poor frustrated mean loser.

  • Surrender back stabbing monkies

  • American soldiers fought to give them back there countries right to self determination, that's what freedom means not so that they would forever be indebted to the liberators. Let me see who who helped who first the french gave assistance to the colonies in the American Revolution, Now correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that there were any American troops giving any assistance to the French in the Franco Prussian war of 1870. Please Correct me if I'm wrong !!

  • wel sir,I dont know how old that post was,but I was kidding I like the French, and yes the French done alot for the US in its youth..

I was just upset because I seen where some American tombstones in Normandy had been Vadelized..but Im sure it wasnt French, probably some young kids

  • hi mate, where did you heard that ?

I am sorry but I don't think it's true, just a rumor. We would have heard of it. That kind of stuff make big noise in general....

    I don't think it's true.

Some tombstones were indeed vandalized but it was a muslim cemetery...

The french will never forget what the Amerincans did in 1944.

  • It was true,I seen it on several different news channels, bur it ok,you know kids can do stupid things, kids these days allover the world are useless lazy and diarespectfull,we have plenty here the same way

  • ok.. where was it ?

  • I dont know which sites it was,but Im not trying to start problem,I like the French..

  • no worries, I am not their to make problems neither :)

  • @americaneagle1967 we have problems with the french youth. tombs are vandalized each day. To all: NEVER NEVER NEVER move into a french school in france. We swear like wounded sailors at the age of four, and like breaking stuff.

  • @Mneutralcritic

sorry I dont even remember posting anything in here.

  • Oh your Canadian, hows tha weather up there..lol

  • oh ok vandalism that is a true crime. I hear ya, last year there was a story that came out of France that the Canadian memorial at Vimy was being used as meeting place for swingers and they were having sex on the monument. I lost my freaking mind when I heard that. the weather is fine thanks.

  • Some help??? IT can't be over estimated the role france had in the US, if not for France there would not be a US! And btw Napoleon, The Republic asked the US to enter war with them. And What did they did? Those cowards refused! And what they got WAR in 1812, and almost lost, if not saved once again by France, but even then they didn't wanted to help the republic survive. Needless to say they are still the same...

  • Very good idea to start with 1914-1918 images: WWI explains WWII. Particularly the French armistice of 1940 was inspired by the German armistice of 1918. And the weakness of France in 1940 was due to the huge losses of the Great War. The fatal decision was to declare war on Germany in 1939.

  • Awesome with the Medal of Honor Music!!

  • hahah the medal of honor theme.

  • ah yes.

  • each and every maquis is a hero.

  • Really nice video. A very nice tribute to those very brave people whowillingly risked their lives for the freedom of their country. We must never forget the contribution and sacrifices that these people and other resistance groups made during WW2. Their numbers are getting getting fewer now as they slowly fade away but we must keep them alive in our memory and be thankful to them for their unselfishness an bravery.

  • Hello,

You have assembled and presented a wonderful collection of images depicting World War II France.

    Kind Regards,

    Rob Barros

  • Guess what. I was looking for something like this for my research. I didn't think there was much out there in archive on this subject.

    Thank you.
