  • Where can i buy vallejo paints?

  • do you use the army painter airbrush or the one from games workshop? does it make any difference?

  • do you thin the vallejo gloss varnish when airbrushing? if so, what with?

  • Hey Les, what PSI do you use for the basecoat and highlights?

  • Nice work guys on all your vids ..love it if you could look at mine mrtinypinhead. . regards Nathan.

  • that is incredible, i need an airbrush :)

  • Can you tell me ( others ) what vallejo paints you use converted in to gw paints

  • patience on a grand scale.

  • Im only going to work with GW because thats the only thing i can get, do you have any suggestions if i would paint the Terminator in GW citadel paints instead? Like the color scheme in the tut :)

  • @2h4d0wDK If you look online then there are colour charts that show the GW equivalent to Vallejo, hope that helps :)

  • @SupermanUFC2011 Oh, i found it, Awesome, thnx :D

  • @2h4d0wDK go on waylandgames . com

they supply everything, discount pries too and they ship worldwide. i 100% reccomend them.

  • You are really good at painting Les, but how come you don't paint the Deathwing Company Badge on the right shoulderpad?

  • @Tonseren What I think KillaMinis was trying to say in a very polite way was " Fuck Off... You Suck At Life.... Bitch. "

  • @TheDigitalComa Because I complement les on doing an awesome paintjob ? ... you guys are retarded.

  • Fantastic! Thank you for this tutorial. I am literally just starting my terminators in an Angels of Absolution army so your timing is impeccable. I will definitely be using your technique (especially the basecoat) for my whole army.

And I hope to see you up at Pair a Dice next time you make it up our way!

  • been wondering if you could do an all brush tutorial. not many people have access to an airbrush

  • nice paint job like this vid 2 thumps up!

  • hey les, whats the best airbrush to get for a novice, i always spend money on brushes and cant keep doing it, do u know how i should start up with a airbrush and which starter models to practise on, please help me

  • Am I mistaken or did you not prime the model? Do you find that the varnish protects the paint job well enough during gaming and transport without primer?

  • Man I love your videos. nuff said

  • I just found your channel 2 days ago and you have new tutorials posted. You rock! Great to see fellow left-handers painting :)

  • Great! Plain but fine.

  • wahst the song name?

  • What no sons of medusa :D

  • Awesome bro, as always. Hope we don't have to wait to long for the next.

  • Great video! Your videos inspired me to get an airbrush and have a go at it. Thanks for the time and effort you put into these videos!

  • As a DA player, I've been looking forward to a Deathwing tutorial for a long time - so thank you! I do wish you still did voice-overs to the videos, though. I really appreciated the extra detail your commentary provided around why you were using certain techniques. I get that it adds another layer of work for you, but just my 2 pennies...thanks again!

  • Sorry about the double post, but what's the drying time on the oil wash?

  • Ok I gotta say I like the voiceovers. Helps to understand whats going on, and you are good at including the right info.

  • I like how you start out painting it like a turd, and then its an albino turd, and then poof, its an awesome paint job! :D your bolter barrel holes are not symmetrical.

what? That took me a long time to find a critique, you can sukkit! haha!

  • Nice Christmas gift to the community, Les...always love your tutorials and this one is another one for the favorite list...Pretty amazing capilary action on those washes....thanks for the all the effort that goes into creating such great vids...it is greatly appreciated, buddy...Jim.

  • As always, a very good tutorial. I've got a question about oil washes ; why oil washes instead of acrylic washes (badab black and so) ? And what about clay based washes (I'm thining about Flory models weathering washes which are clay based if I remember well) ?

  • I swear I can feel my painting skill rise every time I watch your videos. Also, I keep getting bad gateway errors when trying to view the video page of your site.

  • Just awesome!! Do you dilute the gloss vanish?

  • Awesome video as usual from you Les. Great to see another video :-)

  • If I ever get the chance to meet you, I'm gonna kiss your face.

  • Awesome video Les. Congrats on your Golden Demon. Very cool.

  • what size bits are you using for the barrels? the tapered look is a complete +1!

  • would I use blue with the air brush to base coat an ultramarine?

  • What is this technique called? It looks fun and has great results. :)

  • Now I know what to do with my spare eyeshadow brush, use them to help make my minis look pretty. Great video Awesome, I enjoyed seeing the layers applied and the terminator slowly come to life. Was there a specific reason why you applied a coat of varnish mid way through painting instead of varnishing at the end when all of it is complete?

  • @Lostsoul1889 Thanks for the kind words! I varnish multiple times as well as when finished. Matt Medium is used when I still have painting to do, and Gloss before washing to reduce surface tension. For me it's like hitting SAVE on the computer when working on a long report; it protects underlying paint and allows me to correct mistakes with rubbing alcohol without harming what I have already done.

  • Any chance doing a space wolf using this technique? I'd love to see the color combos and washes you'd use.

  • @SpaceWolfPainter Already done 2 SW tutorials and have nothing planned for more. Maybe when they update the book again lol.

  • @awesomepaintjob Not using this technique though. lol Black w/ Sombre Grey, then Sombre grey, then space wolf gray as top highlight, then maybe Black Lamp Oil Wash... grey oil wash before that? Going to have to experiment I guess. Stop being so inspiring Les, damn you. :)

  • @SpaceWolfPainter He has a nice Space Wolf 13th company vid, you should check it out

  • I was just wondering have you ever won a Golden Deamon?

  • @4zeeEmperor I have one of those :)

  • The master returns!

  • Nice paint work

  • Les, my "Hawaiian" friend. You always outdo yourself, kind of. Well, you always do an amazing job.

  • This was awesome vid Les oh wait maybe thats why you are called Awesome paint job! Lol great vid.

  • Les, where do you buy al your kolinskys from nice tut btw ;)

  • Great tut Les. Just wanted to ask what are you using to dilute the W&N oils, I've not worked with oils before.

  • @Lennysmash84 Mineral Spirits are used to thin the paint as well as clean up on the model. I does not eat through the varnish like alcohol or windex shown in older videos.

  • Thanks for sharing this!

  • Nice work. Going to check out part 2. Is that just blue paper you are filming in front of or is that some type of cloth you use for airbrushing?

  • Good to have you back Les.

  • Would it be too much asked if you could do some chaos marines too? And great vid :D

  • Good to see your painting videos again. Love your work and have used your techniques on my Space Wolves.

  • Good to see you back in the saddle, and as always, amazing work, inspiring others to test new techniques.

  • Part 2 is live. Link in description.

  • You hadn't posted a video in a while, I was getting sad. Great vid, thanks for posting.

  • :3 needs more ork :3 great job les! XD

  • Great vid les I would like to know what the advantages of an oil wash compared to an acryllic wash????

  • @opticaltrigger21 Thanks! Check my response to madjack9 above.

  • Just curious, part one is 17 min or so. With drying time and other add ons, how long in really time is a paint job like this for you?

  • well noone can dispute that you are in fact doing an awesome paint job. But with the paintbrush and dipping tecniqs being so different from actually painting with a brush, they should almost be in separate categories at competitions.

  • @Tonseren -- I don't see any examples of your artwork, with a "Brush" on your channel? Talent is Talent, no matter what the tool.."Tool".

  • @KillaMinis ...Did I say I could do better? No. Did I say that the dude doing awesomepaintjob doesnt have talent? No. I merely suggest they should be in different categories when judged for competition and not held up together for comparison. I would never be able to do as good a blend as someone with a paintbrush can do it. I actaully writes: "noone can dispute that you are in fact doing an awesome paint job" So why so hostile? Why all the rage?... loosen up and act your age.

  • @KillaMinis I would also like to add that I have been subscribing to this channel for quite some time and get alot of inspiration and tips about techniques from here. Absolutely no need for name calling. I suggest you actually read the posts you reply to henceforth.

  • @Tonseren --Ok, let's just say that a blanket comment that could be interpreted as a "Dig" to the channel owner... are not always the best comments. Reread your comment, it seems a bit pointed or Troll like. Any who, if you had best intentions and you've been a subber for a while.. then my bad.

  • @KillaMinis Since my native language isnt English, I have no idea what you mean with "blanket comment" and "dig". Of course if the owner of the channel found the comment degrading to his skills, even though I wrote:"noone can dispute that you are in fact doing an awesome paint job" Then I apologise to les. I was merely stating my opinion on the matter of competition painting. Not meant as a reply to anythnig going on in the video but to painting in general. Cheers.

  • I have like a squad of 10 death wing that need to be done by Thursday. Is the oil wash do able with out the oil , IE will citadel/vallejo paint mixed to a wash work just as well?

  • man, all your vids helped me !

  • Comment removed

  • Great video Les, as always. Just 2 questions. 1. Why use oil was? 2. What was the brush you used to clean up the oil wash? It looked like a foam applicator. Can't wait to see part 2.

  • @madjack9 Thanks! 1. Oil gives more control, especially when having to clean up after. It creates the best lining of details in my opinion. And with a light color scheme like this you NEED to be able to clean up the wash. This is difficult to do with acrylic washes without damaging the underlying paint. 2. Yes it was a foam applicator similar to ones used in women's make-up kits.

  • @awesomepaintjob GREAT video as always! Can't wait to see more!

PS How 'bout a little love for the Tau. :)

  • Dude, I'm so glad I get to see a new video from you! I gotta be that guy and tease: are those mold lines still on the storm bolter? Super awesome video as always dude!

  • Oh wow. The boy is back!

  • It's good to see a new video from you. This is going to make my lunch time much better ;) Keep up the good work. Your video's are an inspiration to all of us and I personally could learn a lot about the way to make good miniature painting videos myself.

  • HELL YEAH!! a vid from les! its been too long bro, good to see some vids again... how are things going? can we expect more vids again or are you still very busy with commissions and stuff??

  • @FearGFX Thank dude. I know it has been a while. This came from the archive. I have a couple of videos that are stockpiled for release next year, but it couldn't wait. Commissions should be done in Feb 2012. Should see a lot more vids after that.

  • Awesome, a painting video at last!! Super work mate as ever, you are a real inspiration. I was wondering two things: 1. How long does the Oil Wash take to dry? and 2. Was there any reason why you highlighted with the white primer instead of 72001 Dead white?

  • @peyo001 Thanks! 1. I thin the oil with mineral spirits and aid drying with a blow dryer, so I varnish over it once it looks dry which is usually a couple seconds for the mineral spirits to evaporate. 2. In my experience it covers better.

  • Great work, great vid... Very impressive.

  • That model just looks so clean and perfect

  • Really glad to see a new Vid, looks really well

  • bad ass Les how long till part 2 is ready

  • Superb stuff as always! how long does it take you to paint a model this way?

  • I am not a war gamer or miniatur painter, but i realy admire your painting skill. I would like to see a grey and orange combination if it is possible?

  • can you paint a tau please

  • @Kanvass1 yeah! please!

  • great tutorial as always! i prefer the old voice overs though :(

  • Goes without saying it was A-MAY-ZING!!! Nice to see you back. Interesting oil usage, never really considered them as wash gunk.

  • Oh shit a new APJ vid!

  • would love to have your brush control,,, thumbs up my friend.

  • Awesome as usual

  • Very nice mini, but one question. Why did you use white primer for the edge highlights instead of pure white?

  • @Mujiabor Because it's a primer, it covers better. It helps it stand out rather than do multiple passes with the normal white.

  • Great video. Not gong to lie been looking forward to a new how to paint vid for ages. Glad your back :)
