Take into account the fact that in the late 1990s we were coming out of a tech bubble and that on 9/11/2001 a major financial center of ours was attacked. Our economy continued to grow and jobs were created. Clearly he understands that that growth has slowed and that jobs are being lost. He's quite specific in acknowledging that.

John McCain clearly said that we are in "tough times" and families are facing "tremendous economic challenges." Obama is misleading and distorts McCain's words like a typical politician. Something he said, he promised, he wasn't. Although Obama gets substantial mileage out of running against politics as usual, he provided a reminder that he knows how to twist with the best of them. As for McCain's wife owning 7 homes...the McCain's call their home in Arizona & D.C. Very standard to have two.

Obama seems the best of the three, but the report is correct as far as it goes. Obama should have given the details of the quote, when and where. Politicians in a race say the same things over and over again, and when they step over what's acceptable, they retreat the next time by retracting the statment or adding conditions to the original quote.

Though McCain acknowledged that people are going through hard times, he is essentially saying that if we look at the big picture and judge by hard objective standards, things are going alright, so we can continue with the same economic policies and people's personal situations should sort themselves out. So really he was just paying lip service to the harsh economic realities most people face.
Obama did simplify, but he obviously got the gist of it.

In the debate Obama's response to the question about his plan to double the capital gains tax is most telling. Asked why he wanted to double the tax when in every case that the tax was raised tax revenues went down, Obama stated that wasn't the point, he just doesn't think it's fair. In other words, he just doesn't like this whole capitalistic system America is built on. He doesn't care investment in America slows, that tax revenues decrease, he just doesn't want people to be able to invest.

McCain did not contradict himself. He said that we face some economic challenges (PRESENT) but that over the period (PAST) economic progress has been made. Take into account the fact that in the late 1990s we were coming out of a tech bubble and that on 9/11/2001 a major financial center of ours was attacked. Our economy continued to grow and jobs were created. Clearly he understands that that growth has slowed and that jobs are being lost. He's quite specific in acknowledging that.

Congress has had to raise the national debt limit three times under his reign as "King of the USA". -He has hurt the United States majority(the working class)by increasing the amount of money for student loans. -And in result of his faults gas is now $3.27 on avg. and my state's taxes has increased ...etc. Your turn to defend...Bush

Regulators did not seize Lincoln Savings and Loan until two years later. The Lincoln bailout cost taxpayers $2.6 billion, making it the biggest of the S&L scandals. In addition, 17,000 Lincoln investors lost $190 million.

McCain defended his attendance at the meetings by saying Keating was a constituent and that Keating's development company, American Continental Corporation, was a major Arizona employer. McCain said he wanted to know only whether Keating was being treated fairly and that he had not tried to influence the regulators. At the second meeting, McCain told the regulators, "I wouldn't want any special favors for them," and "I don't want any part of our conversation to be improper."
